Upon installation and using the hotkeys to reset the unit, the mouse up/down action is moving at super crazy speed; side to side mouse action is at super duper slow speed.

Other Thoughts: If firmware update does not fix, this will be returned.
This is not the first, or second IOgear item I have had DOA out of the box...

The GCS982U is an emuated KVM so there is no gaurantee thsi will work with anything other than a baisc 104 key keyboard and a basic 2 button mouse. The Only non standard keyboards we can guarantee are IOGEAR models, these have been tested however teher are default setting that can be changed that will correct most of these issues. Pros: Perfect complement of ports for my usage: DVI, USB, and audio. Cables are just the right length for a typical home desktop arrangement. Cables are integrated into the unit, no need to buy them separately. Cables are not too bulky, they're relatively thin and flexible. This KVM is configurable and firmware upgradable.

Cons: None, everything works and works well. Not sure this is a "con", but I found it was sensitive to the use of USB/PS2 keyboard adapters. I have an old IBM Model M clicky keyboard, and I tried 3 different PS2-to-USB keyboard adapters (I have a bunch laying around here) before finding one that worked with this KVM. The one that works flawlessly is a TrendNet TU-PS2.

Other Thoughts: My two machines are SuperMicro Opteron boards with NVidia graphics cards (A 560ti and a 750 ti). Keyboard is an IBM Model M made in 1986 (!!) attached to a Trendnet TU-PS2 adapter, and mouse is a Logitech MX310. Display is a Dell Professional 19" 1280x1024 with built-in speakers.

Pros: Integrated Sound and USB sharing work smoothly. I use a Logitech USB mouse that works great with this device. I am all using this with MS Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 and all of the extra controls work once the MS keyboard software is installed.

Cons: the only thing I can think of is the PC does not auto recognize the version of the Logitech Mouse.

Pros: It resembled a KVM

Cons: Worked for about a day intermittently. couldn't update the firmware to try to correct the problem. mess with it entirely too much to justify the price. screen when black and requested an RMA for refund

The firmware listed at IOGEAR.com for the GCS982U has not been updated since 2012 so your KVM most likely had a new version firmware from the factory and was the reason it would not upgrade. The GCS982U is a very low failure device as long and you have a straight DVI connection with your monitor and computer(s) with the use of no video adapters. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

Pros: Cheaper than some other ones I guess.

Cons: As soon as I connected it to my computer it started chirping, something was wrong with the unit I received, or maybe it puts too much stress on the computer by design.

Also, it only works with two button mice, if you have a mouse with any more than 2 buttons and a wheel, it will not work. As in the mouse does not move, as if you didn't connect it. One mouse I had worked for a few minutes, but then stopped working, I'd disconnect it and reconnect it and then it would work for a few more minutes. Try to find a 2 button mouse on newegg... search... only ones I could find were like $10, not good quality. So with this device your stuck with a bad quality mouse.

Other Thoughts: If you buy a unit with a built in USB hub, you can use any mouse with it guaranteed. I ordered a KVM with a hub built in.

Turning mouse emulation through HSM will usually correct the problem described with your mouse. Also I would suggest a rest on the KVM, this is done by disconnecting all cables and devices from the GCS982U. Let it sit for 6-8 minutes to reset. Connect the cables with both computers off and power up one at a time letting all drivers fully load and go to desktop before switching ports. Then boot computer 2 from a dead start. Pros: Had used VGA version of IOGEAR's KVM for many years now. Was looking for similar 2-port DVI-D solution and after looking at many 3-4 Port KVM solutions, ended up back with IOGEAR GCS98U. Easy, uses USB power so no extra power supply needed to waste a plug. With the DVI-D connections, much better connectivity and switching between PC's.

1st purchase was a test for my home PC and Work docking station. Did all I needed and I purchased another one for my son to use at college, he was hooked as soon as it was installed with school laptop and his Christmas Gaming PC build.

Cons: Box seems large enough that cables could have been located differently and the added push button that bypasses using the hot keys, seems wasted but some like it. Little high cost but can find it on sale when they are in stock.

Pros: Features were desirable

Cons: Will not recognize wired keyboard and mouse on console port. Keyboard and mouse work fine on both PC's when connected separately.

Our KVM’s emulate a standard 102 key, keyboard and generic 2-button scroll wheel mouse. The reason for this emulation is to allow the hot key functions to operate. A side effect of the emulation is that in most cases the special key sequences required for gamming, and key programming will not translate correctly through the KVM, for gamming we recommend connecting directly to the computer.

Although our KVMs will work with most wireless keyboard mouse sets, we cannot promise an individual multimedia / programmable keyboard and mouse set will work through the KVM.

Due to the large number of manufacturer's and each manufacturer's wide range of models it is impossible to maintain any meaningful compatibility list.

Pros: Simple transfer of control of USB keyboard and mouse with sound is clean. Win 7 detection of additional display for laptop works perfectly even if the KVM is not switched to the Laptop when display is detected. Hotkey function that allows switch of display and keyboard while leaving the sound anchored to a different machine is a bonus I didn't expect.

Cons: After about 6 months of use, I have not experienced any cons.

Pros: I bought this one three days ago to replaced my old one, which is iogear GCS62HU, a 2 ports HDMI KVM which only supports up to 1920x1080 resolution. With this Dual link DVI type, Now I can share my new 30" Dell U3014 display with two computers. With either soft key stroke or hard switch, switching between two computers is smooth and effortless. Installation is very straightforward and simple. No problem at all !

Three advantages with this product that I like very much, 1. no extra power adapter; 2. price; 3. no more time delay when using hard switch.

This DVI-D model is pretty much identical to the HDMI model. Apparently, a bug, which causes a10-15 second delay when using hard switch, has been fixed silently in this model.

I am using a wireless keyboard (Logitech k270) and a wireless mouse (Logitech M705). I just plugged one logitech unified receiver on KVM and worked perfectly !

Both of my computers are windows, one with vista ultimate and other windows 7 64bits pro.

I am very happy with this one, especially no more time delays when using hard switch.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: A behavior that bothers me a bit is that it automatically switched to computer #2 when you shut the #1 down.

Pros: Works exactly as specified. Setup was trivially simple. No issues with wireless Microsoft Mobile Mouse 3500 or with Gyration wireless keyboard/mouse combo. No issues with 2048x1152 Samsung SyncMaster 2343BSX monitor.

Cons: heavy stiff cables makes it difficult to mount securely. (better heavy than flimsy) Additional USB connections would have been a better feature to have instead of the audio switches.

Other Thoughts: Other reviewers on Newegg rated this KVM switch very low which did not correlate with reviews found on other websites. Despite that all of the hardware in my setup is 3 to 8 years old, I had absolutely no trouble setting up and using this KVM switch. My previous KVM switch, with similar monitor resolution capacity with dual link DVI (a different manufacturer), was very flaky with various bugs that constantly required resetting of the KVM. This IOgear KVM has so far worked without any bugs whatsoever.

Because other reviewers had problem with lower resolution monitor settings, I tested various other setting on my monitor and found no issues.

I should also mention that both of my computers have dual-link DVI connections. I can't comment what would happen if dual and single link connectors are mixed.

Also, I have not tested the audio switching nor have I used a hub.

If you have dual-link DVI on both computers, I highly recommend the IOGEAR GCS982U 2-Port Dual-Link DVI Cable KVM with Audio.
