1 out of 5 eggsWorks right only about 50% of the time.

Pros: Was low cost and easy to use in the beginning.

Cons: I only recently started using this unit, as I didn't always have a need to have both of my computers on at the same time. Now that I've been using it my main computer when switching back from my secondary computer won't recognize the usb device at all. Also on that note, even if I unplug my keyboard and mouse and directly plug them into my PC it won't take them either after the KVM has bugged out my USB system apparently and only thing that fixes the issue is a full system restart... This is extremely frustrating as a gamer. Most of the time I use this KVM to switch between games or movies depending on what I'm doing or in the mood for.

Other Thoughts: This is extremely frustrating as a gamer. Most of the time I use this KVM to switch between games or movies depending on what I'm doing or in the mood for. I even have the drivers installed from the website on both computers for this product. Just at times when switching from one to the other it fails to I'm guessing reinstall the drivers or whatever? Seems like a pretty stupid flaw, regardless if it's on windows end or the manufacturers.... Unless I can find a better working KVM switch I'll have to go back to using two keyboards/mouse which is too many cords.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

The TK-207K employs a pass-through architecture. When you switch from one PC to the next it is essentially disconnecting the console hardware from one computer and then plugging them into the other computer. When this occurs your PC needs to detect and reload the drivers for your hardware. Switching too fast can interrupt this process and your devices may load an unknown USB devices. You can either remove them from the device manager and then rescan to add them again or power cycle the KVM. You do this by disconnecting both the KVM cables from the unit at the same time so it loses power. You do not have to restart your computer. The KVM does not have drivers. Your console hardware has drivers. If you need assistance with the KVM please email Adrian@trendnet.com and we will have someone assist you as soon as possible. Please include your contact information and a link to this review.

2 out of 5 eggsHigh pitched wine associated with keyboard LED

Pros: Cheap. Works with both Linux and Windows.

Cons: When the keyboard's LED backlighting is turned on, there is an annoying high pitched drone from the computer's speakers. It happens on the both the Linux and Windows 7 computers.

As others have noted, the hot key sequence only works from Windows to Linux.

Switching to Linux is almost instantaneous, but switching to Windows takes a while because Windows has to "re-install" the keyboard drivers.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace my trusty Belkin PS/2 KVM, because my shiny new K70 keyboard won't work with passive adapters. The high pitched wine is a fatal flaw.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We are sorry to hear that you are having an issue with the TK-207K. For operating systems that don’t have a key mapped for Scroll Lock, support has been added to allow hot key switching using Num Lock as well. The KVM is a pass-through unit, the time it takes for your computer to redetect and reinstall drivers determines how fast this process takes. The high pitched whine is not normal and indicates a hardware issue. We will be more than happy to honor the warranty on the unit. Email Adrian@trendnet.com and we will have someone assist you as soon as possible.

Regards,

Adrian

5 out of 5 eggsExceed expectation

Pros: USB ports, cheap, cables included

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This is the second one I purchase for home use after testing the first one at the office. Works with Logitech unifying receiver for mouse/keyboard combo. You can plug the receiver into either one of the usb ports and it will detect both the keyboard and mouse.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: None

Cons: Had this product/model for two plus years before mouse and keyboard recognition failed. For the price and length of service that was acceptable. It lasted the two year guarantee.
Ordered another as a replacement it failed after two months with the same problems. I don't find two months acceptable and consider this item to be inferior !!!!

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Rick M,
We apologize for the experience you are having with the product and would like to resolve this issue that you’ve run into.

The unit can appear dead if the USB devices failed to load properly after a switch. This may appear to be defective as it becomes unresponsive. A power cycle should clear this up. Disconnect both sets of cables from the KVM at the same time to power cycle it. If it does not recover, we would recommend an RMA for warranty services.

Email me at Adrian@trendnet.com and we’ll have someone help you as soon as possible. Please include your contact information and a link to this review.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Mostly works. Looks nice. I thought it would put cables all over my desk but the layout I have makes it look cool.

Cons: I have issues when a PC goes into sleepmode and I switch to it. Sometimes the keyboard and mouse wont wake it.

1 out of 5 eggsnot good enough

Pros: It worked.

Cons: This KVM switch degrades the video signal quality noticeably. The colors shift a little and text becomes a little blurry: not horrible but bad enough to warrant me returning the unit and paying shipping and the restocking fee. A KVM switch has a very simple purpose: to switch between two video sources. For almost 20 $ I expected flawless performance. With this Trendnet KVM you do not get that.
That was my first and will be my last experience with that brand.

Other Thoughts: The cables that come with the unit seem like decent quality.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Tristan,

I can understand your overall frustration this has caused and for that we truly apologize. I am curious if you still have degraded video signal when the monitor is directly connected to your computer(s). Also, does it make any difference while using a different cable? If it still doesn’t help please email me directly at adrian@trendnet.com with “Newegg TK-207K Review” in the subject line and I will respond immediately to go through a hassle free return with you. Thank you for taking the time to review our product. I hope to hear from you soon to regain your trust in TRENDnet.

Warm Regards,
Adrian

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't work for long

Pros: Reasonable price and easy to install

Cons: Only worked for 3 days before the keyboard and mouse would no longer work for PC1.

Other Thoughts: Buy something else.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Alf,

I can understand your overall frustration for this usb switch not working as promised. If you can please remove and swap your PC to see if the port for PC1 is still not working. If this still doesn’t help please email me directly at adrian@trendnet.com with "Newegg TK-207K Review" in the subject line and I will be able to assist you immediately.

Warm Regards,
