Tripp Lite's B042-008 NetController 8-Port VGA Rackmount KVM Switch is the smart solution for controlling multiple computers and servers from one monitor, keyboard and mouse. Requiring just 1U of rack space, the B042-008 features a rugged housing, premium connectors and superior functionality to ensure trouble-free operation in demanding high-availability environments. The B042-008 can control up to eight servers/computers directly, or up to 248 by daisy-chaining additional KVM switches. It is compatible with both PS/2 and USB computers using Tripp Lite P780-Series combo KVM cable kits (available separately).

All-in-One Network Management for Critical Systems

The B042-008 offers a comprehensive, cost-effective network management solution that installs in 1U of rack space. No server-resident software is required, so server performance and reliability are never compromised. Upgradable firmware fine-tunes compatibility with emerging standards.

Feature Focus

Supports Multiple Platforms

The B042-008 supports both PS/2 and USB connections (Tripp Lite P780-Series combo KVM cable kits required; sold separately). Because compatibility is based on common hardware standards rather than system software dependencies, almost any platform can be accommodated. Connect multiple versions of multiple platforms in any combination, including Windows®, Mac®, UNIX®, Linux, BSD and DOS.

Simple, Flexible Network Control

The B042-008 is designed to ease multi-server management in data centers, server rooms and other high-density environments. An advanced on-screen display (OSD) with high-resolution QXGA video up to 2048 x 1536 provides a graphical user interface with management tools including custom port labeling, auto-scanning and panel array mode. Users may also select a connected computer using on-console pushbuttons or keyboard hotkey commands. Two LEDs per KVM port indicate (1) when a computer is connected to a KVM port and powered on, and (2) when a computer is selected.

Control Multiple Computers

The B042-008 is capable of controlling up to 248 servers/computers by daisy-chaining additional B042-Series KVMs. This gives network managers the flexibility to add capacity when it's needed, accommodating growing data center requirements without disrupting existing equipment.

Access Servers Anywhere with Optional IP Remote Access Capability

The B042-008 accepts an optional IP remote access unit (Tripp Lite model B051-000) that provides secure IP remote access to connected servers/computers without requiring additional rack space. IP remote access enables system administration, BIOS-level troubleshooting, GUI application installations, equipment reboots and more to be accomplished from any location using a standard Web browser or multi-platform client software.

Secure Every Connection

The B042-008 offers two levels of password protection (administrator/user) to prevent unauthorized persons from gaining access to connected servers/computers.

Peace of Mind

The B042-008 comes with a 1-year warranty.

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent KVM

Pros: First small KVM we have used that:
1. never fails to connect both mouse and keyboard when switching and
2. supports booting machines while the KVM is connected to another machine (every time).
#2 can be extremely irritating when remote restarting and you find out the mouse or keyboard doesn't work when you get on site.

Cons: Newegg should point out that you need Tripplite cables and they are a little spendy. Alas, you get what you pay for.

Other Thoughts: We have 7 devices connected and it has been flawless for about a year. Just ordered a 15' cable and will connect a system in the next room.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't waste your time or money

Pros: None

Cons: Purchased the switch and bought some generic HD15 cables for it. The switch see's all PCs plugged in. It even gives the display and functions of the keyboard and mouse of the first pc plugged in. I try to click on the button for another PC, nothing happens. I called Tripp Lite and they tell me since I am not using their cables it won't work even though the red light is on stating that another PC is plugged in.

1 out of 5 eggsOdd

Pros: Rack Mountable, Node Connection Indication

Cons: NO CABLES! Why wouldn't anybody mention the cables to connect to the Node is not included??? FYI: You need to go buy Trip Lite P780 series cables in addition to this that run about $20-$30 a piece depending on the length.
