2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: works with every drive I've thrown at it.
Convenient to have built-in hub

Cons: If USB is plugged in e-sata doesn't work
USB hub failed
Power button on back
USB hub doesn't work unless powered.

Other Thoughts: E-sata cable it comes with is too short to be of much use unless the dock is right next to your computer. I didn't use the USB hub all that much until recently and was disappointed that it broke after only two weeks of continous use (keyboard and mouse wireless dongle connected to it)

1 out of 5 eggs3+ Months Now - Zero Rebate

Pros: It works without problems. Multiple months use, including use of the USB hub on the front of the device.

Cons: 3 months now, with no rebate. Contacted on website and on the phone: each time they say my rebate was never received.

Other Thoughts: Will never purchase Aluratek products and will make sure everyone I know never buys their products. I consider rebate redemption as reputation for the company. If they fail to honor that, how can I trust their reliability and other products.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Unit appears to be reliable.
Works on both USB 2.0 and eSATA
Sturdy feel to the unit

Cons: USB 2.0 could be a con if you don't utilize the eSATA connector, otherwise there are no cons!

Other Thoughts: I purchased this unit because my Motherboard only supports upto USB 2.0. It worked flawlessly, plug and play with it. I didn't like the slow backup upload so I purhased an eSATA card and after installation (which is another story getting the computer to reconize that card), it immediately connected and the speed was dramatically increased. With eSATA having such a high throughput, I imagine it was my 5400 RPM HDD that was the limiting transfer speed factor, but rest assured, it works flawlessly for both USB and eSATA. Great little dockig station

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Trust Rebates

Pros: The device works well and have had no real problems. Has a heavy base, so you don't have to worry about it sliding around. The USB connections on the front work without issues, too.

Cons: Aluratek is only real con because they don't seem to be honoring their rebates. It has been more than a month and their rebate site doesn't even acknowledge that it was sent it. I took pictures of all the forms and even scanned the mail in envelope, so now I get to fight with them. Fun. :-/

Other Thoughts: Will not purchase from them Aluratek again. Device make work, but if they are making their rebate into a con, I could have purchased a different device with the same results for cheaper.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat buy!

Pros: Never heard of Alura•Tek, but they made a great device. I have a lot of hard drives laying around work and home, so I decided to get a hot-swap hard drive dock. This thing works like a charm. I use a Mac PPC G5, and it required no extra driver or updates. Just plugged everything together and it worked beautifully. The PLUS side is that I have hard drive that won't respond at all, and they worked with the Alura Tek. I have a two more hard drive enclosure and they couldn't perform as well.

Cons: None that I have encountered yet.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat and cheap

Pros: Works great with 3.5" and 2.5" hard drives. Also using it's USB ports to connect my printer. Have a hard drive in it since the start and everything works just great. When I don't need the drive I just shut off the thing and that's that. When drive is not in use it spins down, thus saving power.

Cons: none that I can see.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat System

Pros: This is a rugged system that I've been stress-testing for at least 6 months, (Virtually constantly on, using a single drive as an additional HD) and it has been performing wonderfully in USB mode. I love the 3 additional USB ports on the front (the 4th being for power only) and hot-swapping the drives is a blessing.

Cons: Produces smoke and burns out the system when you plug an IDE hard drive into this. (My dad did this the first day we had it. He didn't understand that it only worked with SATA hard-drives.) Got it replaced, and it's worked great ever since!

Other Thoughts: Haven't tried the eSATA connection, mostly because I've been very happy with the USB speeds, and because I don't have an eSATA port on the system it's hooked up to.

3 out of 5 eggsGetting better

Pros: Extra usb ports on the front are nice to have. Aluratek tech support answered my ticket quickly.

Cons: Wouldn't recognize hard drives for some reason. It is working now after swapping the USB cable and making sure that the cable is well seated. Tech support didn't offer any useful advice.

Other Thoughts: Half a C seems a bit high for the build quality.
