3 out of 5 eggsWorks if compatible

Pros: Easy to use when it is compatible - nicely weighted stable base.
Worked with My P35 based older XP machine.
Recognized only on back Asus P8P67 motherboard USB 2.0 and USB3.0 ports of my windows 7 manchine. ( put disc in dock, plug into USB, then power plug last and wait for drivers to load )

Cons: Is not recognized on any of the front panel ports of my windows 7 machine with a P8P67 motherboard.

Other Thoughts: It works - be prepared to try different ports on windows 7 to find ones it works with.

1 out of 5 eggsUsed 3 times now dead

Pros: USB 3.0
Eject button
Status light

Cons: I used the device about 3 times. I kept it mainly to use in case of emergency if I needed to transfer data from and old HDD to a new one. I used it maybe twice to transfer data successfully. The next time I used it, the device wouldn't even spin my HDD. I tried different HDD's, tried a different USB 3.0 cable, Tried a different computer (MAC/PC/LINUX) but the device just doesn't spin the HDD so there is nothing to read. It powers on since the blue light comes up, but that's about it.

Other Thoughts: Unfortunately, it has been more than 1 year so it's no longer under warranty. Will probably refrain from purchasing another Aluratek product again.

5 out of 5 eggsbest for the money

Pros: Works perfectly so far with maxtor and seagate SATA desktop hardrive.

Didn't try laptop SATA drives, but should be no problem.

My best purchase for $10AR.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I don't care if it is SATA II or SATA III. This is best one if you just use occasionally.

2 out of 5 eggsKills wireless connectivity

Pros: Supposed to be fast and convenient

Cons: Being turned on this device kills the wireless (n) connectivity. I don't have USB 3.0 cable that is longer than an included one so I cannot check what happens if it is far enough from my desktop.

4 out of 5 eggsCheck your USB 3.0 chipset first

Pros: - Appears to support USB 3.0 speeds. Tested on an Asus P9X79 mobo which uses the ASMedia USB 3.0 chipset.
- Win7 recognizes it as a USB 3.0 device and will notify you if you've plugged it into a USB 2.0 port. ("This device would perform better if plugged into a USB 3.0 port...")
- Nicely weighted so it doesn't get as top-heavy with a 3.5" drive as some other cheaper, lighter units do
- Comes with 3ft USB 3 cable
- $10 after NewEgg promo code and MIR!!! (I hope I get it!. Still a decent deal at $35 if I don't get it.)

Cons: - Doesn't appear to work on NEC/Renesas USB 3.0 chipsets. I have a Gigabyte GA-880GA-UDH3 v2.2 mobo with that USB 3.0 chipset. Any drives I plug into the dock keep cycling as being connected/disconnected.
- If you use Windows to "Safely eject the device", it will no longer recognize any other drives you plug in. You need to physically power cycle the dock.
- Power cord is a little on the short side...approx 48" which can go quickly if you need to route it someplace not directly behind your computer.
- Short of initiating a support ticket, I looked through the entire website and there is no mention of chipset compatibility with this device. No firmware updates either. (I didn't expect any.)
Your mileage may vary as to whether you get full 3.0 compatibility with this unit. But again, if you are getting it for $15 out the door, there's little to complain about.

Other Thoughts: - I planned on using this on my media server as external backup and as swappable media drives. I can still do this, but not at USB3 speeds since it's not working correctly with the NEC/Renesas chipset. It seems to work fine on the USB 2.0 ports, so it still serves it's purpose. And if I get the rebate, it was $10 out the door. That's a great price even for a 2.0 dock.
As noted, I did try it on my desktop P9X79 system and it worked great at 3.0 speeds. Would've liked to try it with an SSD, but didn't have a non-RAID'ed one available.
- I didn't find anything on their website (FAQ, downloads, manuals, etc) that referenced anything about compatibility with specific chipsets.
- I prefer the power/activity light to be on the front face. This light is on the top face in front of the drive which makes slightly harder to see (and impossible if it's up on a shelf where it'll be for my media server). But that's just personal pref...I'm not deducting an egg for that.

5 out of 5 eggsImpressive

Pros: It's really speedy. I was transfering at 57MB/s on my old hard drives. I consider that pretty fast. The build quality is really good and has a good weight to it.

Cons: Power Cable is a little short. USB 3.0 cable is short, but seems like a really good quality. No helpful direction for proper etiquette to dock/undock the hard drive.

Other Thoughts: I haven't had a chance to do test out on 2.5" hard drive.

Pros: I am impressed with the quality of the packing and hardware. It is fast and easy to use. It doesn't feel like a cheap product at this price.

Cons: none so far.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work with USB 3.0 interface

Pros: A $10 paper wt if the $20 rebate (if submitted) ck is recv in 3-4 months.

Cons: SATA HDs get very hot in no time.
With USB 3.0 interface, the dock with HD will go thru a continuous cycle of mounting and dismounting automatically.
Aluratek tech support (if existed) does not response to calls.

Other Thoughts: If someone needs a $10 paper wt, it's not bad.
It seems there's an issue with the dock chipset/firmware; but couldn't find any resolution on the Internet.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: fast, fast, fast and it worked with all the HDD's I had (WD Hitachi, Seagate, Maxtor). I have not tried it with a 2.5 hard drive yet but am hoping for more of the same. And the price was great to, I had looked on other sites and they wanted as much for a used one

Cons: None that I have found; I am not a computer genus by any stretch I do go to school for computers (2nd year)

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy to setup; connect USB cable, plug in adapter, pop in a hard drive, and power on. The docking station does what it is supposed to do. Cloned two hard drives already in the past week without incident using USB 2.0. Docking station is more convenient when compare to enclosures, no hassles of screws and continuously swapping hard drives in and out of enclosures. Product appears to be solid and reliable, release button is front and center, and power button is in the rear. USB 3.0 will allow me to use it at optimum speed when I have a system with USB 3.0 ports in the future.

Cons: None at the moment.

Other Thoughts: Have not tested out on a computer with USB 3.0 connection yet. Wish it came with a longer USB cable.
