EVGA Power Supply
JonnyGURU (2013/08/01)

This... is the power supply to beat at the 1300 watt level right now. It is that damn good. This is the power supply that makes you say, "screw Platinum efficiency, I'm getting an EVGA G2 1300 instead." Heck, I want one, and I already have one.

EVGA Power Supply
TechPowerUp (2013/08/01)

EVGA managed to deliver a very strong PSU of excellent quality at a bargain price.

5 out of 5 eggsStill 5 eggs

Pros: Couldn't figure out how to edit a previous review. Sorry. Ok, from before, installed the PSU and the first thing I realized is that I need a bigger computer case. Wow! I have a mid-tower with 2 R9-270x video cards. One opti drive and 1 tb hd. Not alot of space to work with. However, everything went very smooth. No screw misalignment, no sparks or firecrackers, just solid service. The fan is not loud at all and I have the side of my case off. Just ran a solid 2 hours of Elite: Dangerous whereas before, I got maybe 7-9min before my old PSU would curl up in a ball and whimper, taking the whole system with it.

Cons: Nothing as of yet.

Other Thoughts: Would strongly recommend anyone with a mid-tower or, heaven help you, a smaller case, attach the cables to all your equipment first and then to the power supply. Doing this will allow you to redirect the cables as needed. Or, get a bigger case. :-)

5 out of 5 eggs1300w to replace 6 yr old 750w.

Pros: Ok. I literally just received my new power supply. Looking at the the shipping box, it got beat up a bit (Boo on UPS). However, the fact that Newegg got it to me in 2 days from a Sunday night order is pretty darn good (Yah Newegg!). The reason I bought a new PSU is that my old PSU was starting to give me trouble (6 years old). While playing games that required high graphics, my entire system would suddenly power down. Just gone. So we will see if this solves the problem.

Opening the shipping box, I found the PSU box in very good condition. Two corners are midly dinged. Likely from the rough handling by UPS. However, excellent packaging seems to have protected everything. This thing is heavy. Not what I am used to.

The PSU box is gorgeous. Double folded with extra padding at the thin spots. Opening the box, I received 4 two connector red cables. 8-pin on one side and 6+2-pin on the other. 2 three connector red cables. 8-pin on one side, one 6+2 in the middle and one 6-pin on the end. 4 black SATA power cables with 3 SATA connectors each. 1 peripheral cable with 3 Molex connectors. 1 CPU cable with 1 8-pin on one end and 2 4-pin on the other. 1 Motherboard cable with 1 24-pin connector on one side, 1 18-pin and 1 10-pin on the other. 1 standard power cable, 1 bag of 5 velcro cable ties and 1 motherboard bypass plug. Also, included was a handy dandy cable bag for storage and owners manual.

The power supply is well packaged and well protected. It also has a velcro closable bag. Should be handy for something else as, if all goes well, this PSU should not be out of my system for 10-years or more. The EVGA Supernova 1300 G2 feels sturdy. Seems to be very well built and has no obvious damage. Time to install. I will return and update this review after installation.

Cons: UPS beat up the box the PSU came in.

Other Thoughts: 5 Eggs for now. We will see.

5 out of 5 eggsGood PSU!

Pros: One of the few PSUs that have *dual* 8-pin EPS+12V motherboard power connectors. These are necessary for most dual-CPU-socket systems and many extreme gaming boards. This was a major factor in my choosing this unit.

Everything about it feels like high-quality materials. Haven't had any reliability issues in several months of use.

Very tightly regulated voltages at varying loads. 12V rail reads 12.000V true. Beat that!

Some people have said this PSU is loud. It might be at max output, I wouldn't know. Or maybe they just got a unit with a bad fan. My 20-Ivy-Bridge-core dual-socket server/workstation system (56 GHz total!) running CPU-only stress tests (<500W from the wall, not maxing the power supply obviously) measures 29 dB @ 1 meter. That's the whole system, including a bunch of slow fans and this PSU. If that's loud to you, whatever. Pretty quiet to me. Even if I'm sitting right next to the case, I can't hear it over the refrigerator in the next room.

Got it on sale with rebate for $180 shipped.

Fully modular, long cables.

Cons: Even when the system is idle, my big fluorescent workbench lights flicker (on the same wall plug as the computer). Which is a bit of an irritation. This also makes me wonder what it's doing to the power quality in the main AC line. I haven't found evidence of it doing any harm, just bugs me a tiny bit.

The SATA power connectors are *not* right-angle. Which means you have to bend the wires back on themselves in order to connect multiple drives.

Wires are quite stiff, so I worry about wire breakage from multiple flexings. Also worry that the stiff wires could break the power connectors on more fragile devices like SSDs.

Other Thoughts: PSU clicks when placed under sudden hard loads. Haven't had any reliability issues, so I guess it's not a problem. Voltages remain okay.

No fanless mode, but it's really not noticeable.

PSU is big and long. Measure before you buy.

My theory on PSUs is that if you get them bigger than you need, they'll always run quiet and none of the internal parts should be under constant stress. You also get peak efficiency at around 40-70% load.

4 out of 5 eggsGood power, not quiet

Pros: Looks and feels well built
Quality modular sleeved cables
Steady power output under load
Low price

Cons: Loud fan and it seems louder now than it was when I got it 4wks ago. It's very audible even with my system drawing around 150 watts while I type this review. I'm thinking about flipping it over so the fan will be facing up to see if that helps. At this point it's the loudest thing in my case which has 7 120mm fans, 3 140mm fans, and dual water pumps.

Red PCI-E cables, This could be a pro for someone else but I would much rather have the black cables that come with the 1600 G2 since these cables are the only thing red in my case.

Other Thoughts: Other than the noise, this PSU seems to be performing well. I haven't had any instability. I've only put about about a 1,000 watt peak load on it while playing BF4. Most other games only draw between 600 and 900 watts. My system specs:

liquid cooled tri-fire R9 290's @ stock speeds
liquid cooled i7 3770k @ 4.5ghz.
7 120mm Fans: 6 Akasa Piranha's and 1 Noise Blocker Pro
3 140mm Akasa Apache fans
Swiftech MCP35X2 dual motor Pump
3 SSD's
NZXT Sleeved 2 meter LED Kit

5 out of 5 eggsVery well constructed

Pros: Appearance, fully modular, lots of power(watts and amps). Powers my 5 HDD, 2 GTX680's(SLI), 1 GTX 660, 3930k OC'd to 4.4, four monitors, and 32 GB of memory like a champ. My last supply (800W) struggled. It even comes with little bags to store unused modular lines.

Cons: none yet

Other Thoughts: Love the extra power, eVGA has come a long way with the quality of all products.
