detailed view and application

  • newegg Breakthrough DDM (Dynamic Device Mapping) technology With ConnectPRO’s exclusive DDM (Dynamic Device Mapping) Technology, communication between shared devices and connected systems is maintained 100% of the time, even when switching the shared devices from the controlled systems. This prevents interruptions in communication between shared devices and connected systems/computers, and reduces the wait time when switching KVM ports. As a result, when switching ports there is no more lag time while the computer has to re-recognize the connected devices. The DDM Technology creates a new class of KVM switch with “NO Latency Switching”, which becomes extremely important for more complicated and faster computing applications’ requirements.
  • newegg Advanced Dual-Core technology Thanks to the advanced Dual-Core technology, this KVM becomes the most reliable and stable solution on the market, when it comes to switching 100% USB HID devices and DVI-I video between multiple computers.
  • newegg High resolution support This unit supports high resolution of up to 1920 x 1200.
  • newegg KVM keyboard hot keys and front-panel buttons The system switching can be implemented through front-panel push buttons (Ctrl, Shift, Scroll Lock, Caps Lock, Hotkey disable). The backlit push-buttons with multi-color LED offer easy monitoring and selection. You can also enable the "buzzer" sound for computer-switching confirmation.
  • newegg Great compatibility The UD-14-PLUS is compatible with Linux and Mac, Windows 98, 2000, XP, Vista, and Touchscreen. It also features all-the-time active DDC/EDID communication, making it Windows 7 compatible.
  • newegg USB Sharing One rear and one front USB ports are provided for device sharing.

5 out of 5 eggsConnectpro is made of awesome

Pros: Solid, well made. This thing isn't going to slide around. Cables are military-grade. Works like a dream.

Cons: It did not make me taller or slimmer.

Other Thoughts: So I messed up and ordered the wrong flavor KVM switch. We really need VGA, and I ordered DVI - my bad, I get it. Newegg gave me the finger because I didn't have the retail box, and "the manufacturer requires it". Why lie about it? Sorry Newegg, when I contacted Connectpro and pleaded my case - they were happy to take my DVI KVM in for trade on the VGA version. No box? Not a problem. I just gotta say props to Connectpro for going the extra mile for us- even when it was not their problem. You might pay a little more for this KVM switch - but the quality and service are unbeatable.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works with Windows 7 - when using the right video adapters. See other thoughts.

Cons: Manufacturer gives no warning about issues with Win7 and potential video adapter problems. However, this issue isn't limited to ConnectPro.

Other Thoughts: This is an update to a previous review. I initially installed this unit in an environment of 3 XP and 1 Win7 systems. There were some intermittent issues with the Win7 PC, but that machine was an old XPC unit used only for occasional testing. Over the next few months, I updated my other 3 PCs to Win 7, replacing a laptop and replacing motherboards in 2 desktops. Switching between pcs resulted in screen freezes. Additionally, the old XPC unit suffered a video card failure, then a complete failure. I replaced the XPC with a new unit, using the onl video card. As the PCs were replaced over several months, it was difficult to determine what was causing the KVM switching problems. I also had a problem configuring the KVM to use hot-keys other than Scroll Lock. After several exchanges with ConnectPro tech. support, I returned the unit for servicing, and was pretty upset when they told me that there was nothing wrong with the unit. It's a long story, but here's what I ultimately learned. My new and expensive USB keyboard was the cause of the hot-key problem. A new Unicomp keyboard eliminated that problem. Turns out that the KVM switching problem was introduced by Microsoft with Win7, The OS shuts down the PCs video output if it loses a monitor connection, as in when it's switched via a KVM. This is a problem with most KVMs, but not with ConnectPro's, according to Microsoft. What isn't mentioned by anyone is that a workable KVM switch also needs workable video adapters. I updated my 3 desktops to new nVidia chipset adapters and they all work fine now. My ASUS B53 laptop has two graphic processors, an AMD Radeon HP 6470M chipset based high-performance unit and an Intel Moble HD Graphics chipset unit on the motherboard. There's no problem when using the high-performance ATI mode, but the energy-saving Intel mode will always freeze the video output when disconnected via the KVM. My research suggests that this problem is not limited to DVI KVMs. VGA units are also affected. My reason for submitting this second review is to advise shoppers that care should be taken to assure that any new KVM works with Win7 or later and that you have video adapters which will work with Win7 and KVM switches. Discerning which cards work is a mystery to me. I've had luck with Gigabyte GeForce 210s and Gigabyte GT430s. I assume all Nvidia chipset cards of these series on other manufacturers; boards will work, and I've noted such in my reviews of these cards. The Gigabyte GeForce 210s is a good, reasonably priced option if you're not a gamer. The UD-14+ is now a pleasure to use since my dropped connection issue has been resolved.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast, flicker-free switching. Very high quality cables. Solid construction. Selectable hot keys. Positive long-term experience with manufacturer.

Cons: Encountered some initial glitches connecting to PCs previously connected with VGA/PS2 connectors. Probably a PC issue rather than a KVM one , but once properly connected, the issues have gone away.

Can't find anyone selling longer ConnectPro cables.

Other Thoughts: I wrote a negative review on the UR-14 which was defective, but flawless performance for 10 years of a Connectpro unit convinced me that it was an anomoly, and NewEgg came thru with a refund as soon as they received my return. Instead of replacement, I decided to go full bore with a digital unit, although in retrospect, it doesn't improve the display quality. I'm betting that, as I replace equipment, the DVI connection will become a necessity.

I'm pretty confident that this unit will match the long life of my old ConnectPro VGA/PS2 KVM. I do wish it had the hot key previous/next functionality of my old unit, but no competitive unit appears to offer that functionality.
