The Lantronix SLSLP400USB-01 SecureLinx SpiderDuo KVM Switch provides secure, remote KVM (keyboard, video, and mouse) over-IP capabilities in a sleek, compact solution. This allows you to access and control the servers or hosts located at a remote site over LAN/WAN Internet. This greatly reduces the management and maintenance costs, and decreases the downtime. This unit also provides local assess for on-site operation. What's more, Spider Duo requires no additional software and allows full BIOS level control of the host system.

Also bought the power controller to allow remote power on/off of the computer. Cons: Only gave it 4 stars because max resolution is 1600 x 1200. Would be 5 if it supported 1920 x 1080. In the year plus operation never need to reboot the unit, So impressed with its reliability, purchased 4 more for all my VM servers. The spider duo actually provides greater access than Dell "IDRAC", The spider not only allows modifications of BIOS but RAID configurations too. Cons: none so far Other Thoughts: Lantronix should think about a Spider Quad to control two PCs /servers from same unit. Cons: The compression used to share the host computer's display over the internet/LAN is quite poor compared to traditional VNC applications, including free software like UltraVNC. The result is a rather lousy looking remote desktop image, even on the highest settings and with a 5mbit transfer rate between host and client. Secondly, the (very useful) feature that is supposed to allow the owner to set up a local PC to the same LAN as the Lantronix device to share ISO images for things like remotely loading an OS onto the host was a big consideration for purchase, but get this - it only works if the PC doing the sharing is running WinXP! They're selling a product in 2015 that can only support WinXP file sharing!? What a joke! That was very disappointing to discover after the purchase. I sure wish they'd release firmware that fixes it but none to-date - and they're clearly aware that it's a significant limitation. Other Thoughts: The physical build quality of the device itself is very light and kind of chincy, but it serves its purpose so it's not a big deal by me. It just looks like I'll have to make a phone call and have someone at the host site insert a DVD every time I need to install an OS onto a host computer, whereas I was under the impression from this device's advertising that I could just connect a shared ISO available via 100mbit LAN and install anything I wanted from a ready-made library of ISO's.
