5 out of 5 eggssolid aluminum enclosure work with Mac USB 3.0

Pros: I am upgrading my MacBook Pro hard drive to SSD drive, so I need an enclosure to store my original hard drive that I just pulled out. This enclosure works great and I got fast transfer rate connecting to my Mac's USB 3.0 port. very happy with it.

Cons: non so far

Other Thoughts: this unit is compatible with Mac's Time Machine

5 out of 5 eggsAnswer to my prayers

Pros: I was looking for a USB3 enclosure to test out my USB3 ports on my msi p55a gd65 mobo and this one works without problems. First, I bought a SYBA USB3 enclosure (Item #N82E16817801071) and it was garbage would not detect on usb2 or usb3. Tested on three different computers. I bought this enclosure as a follow up and so far it has not given me problems. new USB connector is sturdy, not wobbly and loose like mostly all other USB3 enclosures.

I tested the transfer rates of USB3 vs. USB2 on my desktop. I transferred a 2.83 GB file in 50 seconds compared to USB2 which took about a minute and forty seconds. I am extremely happy with the enclosure

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: Getting the drive in is a little scary because it fits so snug. It makes you feel like you will break it. Once its in you can feel how secure it is as there is no rattling whatsoever. If your thinking about getting this dont hesitate. This is the only USB3 enclosure you want as all others seem to have problems with wobbly USB3 connectors.

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't work

Pros: Small, doesn't need separate power, no fan.

Cons: Doesn't work. Really cheesy internal connection/screw-down. End cap then didn't fit well (this was a 160GB WD HDD). Supplied USB3.0 cable is maybe 1 foot long and cheap, it damaged one of my two USB3.0 ports. Used a better cable and the green LED comes on but that's all. Doesn't work on USB2.0 port either.

Other Thoughts: Get something better, you'll be happy. I RMA'd this and will return it and already ordered another brand.

2 out of 5 eggsCheap junk

Pros: Small case. No fan. No extra power.

Cons: Many, the most fundamental, it doesn't work.
* The cheap, short cable they supply ruined one of my two USB3.0 ports.
* Mounting of your drive is really cheesy and it's then hard to get the end cap back on. This with a standard 2.5" HDD.
* It never worked. With their cable not even the green LED came on. With another better quality cable, the LED would come on and the drive made sounds, but it was never recognized by the computer (Win7x64). I tried it with USB3.0 and 2.0 ports.

Other Thoughts: Get something better made. I wanted a small, simple enclosure with no fan, but this thing is too cheap.

3 out of 5 eggsIf boot a Hard Drive needs additional Power Supply

Pros: It is good looking and comes with a nice outter bag, and speedy enough! USB 3.0

Cons: Somehow hard to install and need to be more careful to put the Hard drive in.

Other Thoughts: nothin

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Actually picked this up locally in Dallas, Newegg's price is better.

- Works at 3.0 speeds without secondary power (tried 5,400 and 7,200 rpm drives)
- Works on USB 2.0 ports with the included cable or with a normal, micro-USB cable (the style new phones use)
- Case is very sturdy

Cons: - Plether case is ugly. I don't use these, so no big deal
- Doesn't work with 12.5 mm drives, but these are rare. I tried the Samsung 1TB HM100UI.

This isn't a real con since it is advertised to work with 9.5 mm drives (slim). The USB bits worked fine, just wouldn't fit.

On this note, not sure what the other reviewer is thinking, but 9.5 mm drives fit and are snug.

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: USB 3.0

Cons: - Does not work on slim SATA drives
- High shipping cost for such a light item
- Screws are thin and can easily be lost
- Not enough space and ventilation

Other Thoughts: Unable to interface with Fujitsu MHW2160BH hard drive.
