Pros: Works, transfer rate is decent for USB2.0.

Cons: Constantly shutting off the drive. It's very annoying having it load a file and almost immediately spin down the drive. Then have the OS hang for 5 seconds or so while it spins the drive back up because it went idle for 10 seconds.

3 out of 5 eggsdoesn't get detected with Acronis

Pros: was super happy with this purchase before regarding functionality and how it runs, but need to update.

*it runs at USBO 3.0
*ventilated case
*up to SATAIII/6G compatible

Cons: *short cables(less than 3ft max)
*making the HDD frequently spin down and up
*does NOT get detected in Acronis IT over USB 2.0 or 3.0

Other Thoughts: was making Acronis backups to drive in this enclosure for some time and today needed to use it in order to restore a single SSD backup onto a freshly created Intel RAID0. To my greatest surprise the drive was NOT detected in Acronis IT bootable at all, and I tried both USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports. Ended up removing the HDD from this enclosure and using it in USB 2.0 docking station (Startech), worked with no trouble.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat SATA3/USB3 enclosure for the price!

Pros: *awesome price, took it at $19.99 shipped
*easy to install
*supports up to SATAIII/6G drives
*supports up to 4TB drives
*supports USB 3.0 (and comes with such cable)
*nice looking
*ventilated
*power button
*allows for vertical or horizontal stand

Cons: *short cables but it's not a big deal

Other Thoughts: Using it with cheap(ish) Hitachi 5K300 Deskstar (SataIII but only 5400rpm) over USB 3.0 and for large file transfers I am actually getting much better speeds under win8x64 than over SATA3 cable (up to 130MB/s vs 60MB/s) somehow.

HD Tune 2.55 reported however a drop in maximum, average and burst speeds on the drive when used over this USB 3.0 enclosure versus SATA3 cable to motherboard (intel native controller).

HD Tune 2.55 results as min/max/avg/burst speeds in MB/s
a) Intel SATAIII/6G benchmark: 59.3 / 138.8 / 98.0 / 235.9
b) this USB 3.0 enclosure benchmark: 59.3 / 110.5 / 94.4 / 93.0

I still think this enclosure is a great choice if you want/need to throw one one of hard drives outside of case.

Time will tell how long it lasts.

Pros: Looks nice and seems solidly built for a plastic enclosure, but I experienced several cons.

Cons: The enclosure is constantly powering the hard drive inside it off and on. I have checked the forums and this seems to be a common issue without a solution.

There is practically no documentation that comes with it. The installation instructions are printed in dark blue on the back of the black box making them almost useless.

As others have mentioned you only get about 3 feets of power cord and USB cord.

Other Thoughts: If I can't get a resolution to power issue it's going back.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and Cheap. What more can you ask for?

Pros: I was looking for a USB3 and SATA3 hard drive enclosure for retrieving data off of two old hard drives, and I saw that this was the cheapest one. Considering that the next cheapest drive was still twice the price of this one, I figured I'd give this one a shot.

And, what can I say? It works. So well, in fact, that I've already bought another.

Cons: It's not a unibody piece of aluminum machined to micron tolerances? lol

I guess the plastic look isn't for everyone, but if that's your reasoning for not buying this, that's your loss.

Other Thoughts: Even if this enclosure were to break after a few months, you can always just buy another one. Though, I seriously doubt the failure rate on these is any higher than any competing model. Be glad that there's still companies like Mediasonic around that are willing to combat the trend of overpriced electronics.

Pros: Works good when you can get it to work on usb 3. Transfers 40 gb between 30 & 40 mbs on usb 2 and 80 & 90 mbs on usb 3

Cons: AVERY time I start it on usb 3 in xp pro-64 or win 7 64 bit plug in on MB I get can't start code 10 but if I start on usb 2 then after it opens up then I disconnect and restart it with usb 3 It works till I turn off PC. I put a new WD BLACK sata 111 2 TB HD in it.

AMD FX-6200 Zambezi 3.8GHz (4.1GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor FD6200FRGUBOX

Other Thoughts: The led light is on the same end as the plug ins and the on/off switch so I can,t put all the cords to the rear and still see the led light.

3 out of 5 eggsGood...for a while

Pros: Cheap , Easy to Install. Had none of the issues with cheap "Guts"

Cons: Worked great for about 2-3 months. Then would disconnect itself from Windows 7 64. Have to turn off the drive and unplug the usb cord until the drive spins down then reconnect usb and turn on to get it to reconnect. This is quite a pain.

5 out of 5 eggs Good Quality for Price

Pros: Easy install, working well with Windows 8 and USB 3.0 connection. Not bad looking either.

Cons: Plastic piece I'm front of LED falls out easily during install, not secured in place... Easy fix with glue. Pivoting legs for standing upright are also hanging loosely, and are an annoyance when system is on its side.

Other Thoughts: Would definitely purchase again.

5 out of 5 eggsNice USB 3.0 Enclosure

Pros: Very easy to assemble. I put my old 500GB hard drive into this enclosure, and the transfer speed is about 80 to 85MB/s. via USB 3.0

Cons: It's plastic, however, don't feel it's cheap. works for me.

Other Thoughts: It's low price and working good.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid enclosure

Pros: Sleek minimal design, quality build, vented

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I like the design of this enclosure. The build quality is very good and installation is solid. The material used is plastic but it feels very sturdy and has enough ventilation for a hot running hard drive. The power adapter cable is about 3 feet in length. So far the product is running great and exceeded my expectations.
