Question 1

You state that this product can transfer speeds up to 5gb/s through the USB 3.0 protocol, however, on the front cover of the box it shows that this device is only for SATA I or SATA II devices.

If that is correct, then the transfer speed is actually limited to the inserted Drive's transfer speed through its SATA port.

For example, if the Drive is SATA I, then it can only transfer data at speeds up to 1.5gb/sec, and if the inserted drive is SATA II, then it can only transfer data at speeds up to 3.0gb/sec.

And since it appears that the SATA controller on this Enclosure is SATA II, if one were to insert a SATA III Drive, one would still be limited to transfer speeds of up to 3.0gb/sec (the speed of the SATA Controller).

So your statement that this enclosure will attain speeds of up to 5.0gb/sec is basically incorrect.  The most this enclosure could ever attain is actually 3.0gb/sec, the amount limited by the SATA II Controller. Is this correct?

Although I own this enclosure, I have no devices capable of delivering speeds in excess of 3 Gbps with which to test it. The fastest sustained transfer I've attained was a read of approximately 1 Gbps (125 MBps) from an older mSATA disk in 2.5-inch-to-mSATA adapter. But normally I use this enclosure with a 5400rpm HDD, where the drive itself is the bottleneck with typical sequential transfers in the neighborhood of 0.5 Gbps.

I suspect that you are correct about the enclosure's limiting factor being the SATA circuitry. The USB 3.0 circuitry on board may indeed be capable of 5 Gbps, but being attached to a SATA II controller means its full potential may never be utilized. On the other hand, even 3 Gbps on a "5 Gbps" USB 3 connection would be better, proportionally, than anything I've ever attained with USB 2 (where despite a theoretical maximum of 480 Mbps, my transfers all seem to top out around half that).

Question 2

I have 3 laptop hard drives and all of them measure 2.75"x 4", will they fit into the 2.5" case. I know 2.75" does not fit into 2.5" but I'm thinking it might just be a description size and not an actual size?
