2 out of 5 eggsIt works...sort of.

Pros: -Attractive price
-Easy installation
-Dual-colored status LED

Installed a new 2.5 SATA 1.0TB Western Digital HDD that came out of my laptop when I replaced it with a Crucial SSD.

Cons: 1) Included USB3.0 cable is noticeably thicker than a standard cable...which to some that might be good, but at it's shorter length, when it's plugged into the computer, the cable's thickness/strength wants to "inflatable flailing-arm tube man" (lol) the drive in every direction and fashion EXCEPT letting it sit naturally flat where you place it. Of course you can use another 3.0 cable, but the cost of replacing the cable can just be put towards buying a better overall enclosure. This con is more of an annoyance & inconvenience than anything else.

2) If I don't access or use the drive for more than just a handful of minutes, when I do Windows hangs for 4-5 seconds, then rejects the drive, then brings it back as though you just plugged it in. I've tried multiple drives, as well as with other computers besides my laptop and the issue remains consistent in all cases. I did some research with the Event codes & learned it's an issue with the enclosure's own integrated USB Controller hardware/configuration, and that there was nothing I could do about it. Also, if you have a Windows Explorer window open, it auto closes it when this happens.
Personally this got very frustrating after a few weeks of trying to push through this flaw and I ultimately decided to buy another enclosure to replace it.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I would NOT recommend buying this enclosure & instead spending a couple extra dollars on a different one that's higher quality.
If you plan to use it for only system/major backups or something every once in a blue moon, and NOT using it for media streaming/storage, or a software installation drive, or anything requiring even semi-frequent use, then by all means if you can snag this enclosure if it's closer to the $10 or $15 w/Free Shipping marks, then it'll be capable. I would STILL recommend spending even $3-4 more for a different/better enclosure.

5 out of 5 eggsFastest external I own , I own 13 others

Pros: I bought this to test a crucial 256 SSD m550 hard drive , Man I was blown away by the speed . It averaged 410 MB write and 415 read . That was with Blackmagic Disk Speed Test and SpeedTools Test Suite from OWC . I still need to transfer some large video files and make sure they still work . Took 40 minutes to load a fresh 10.10 OS and transfer all my settings and apps to it . Re started and all was good . Macbook Pro , June 2012 .

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I'll give it a few months and if it still works good I'll get a few more .

1 out of 5 eggsWorst Product I've Ever Bought on Newegg

Pros: Quick to assemble.

Cons: This is the first review for a product I have ever written in all the years of buying products online- and I am writing it so you don't buy this enclosure. Bought this to enclose a SSD. Connection interrupts and it force ejects itself every five minutes. Tried multiple cables and it still does it- it's the enclosure. Not even worth my time to return it and such for the price, which is really frustrating. Will never buy from this brand again.

4 out of 5 eggsQuick review an thoughts

Pros: Relatively fast:
I tested the speeds using CrystalDiskMark 3..3 x64 on a Toshiba MQ01ABD075 HDD the results are as such Sequential(Read 105.1 MB/s Write 104.9 MB/s) 512K(Read 35.96 MB/s Write 31.39 MB/s) 4K(Read 0.508 MB/s Write 1.217 MB/s) 4K QD32(Read 0.561 MB/s Write 1.130 MB/s)
Standard Micro USB 3.0 connector with backwards compatibility with Micro USB 2.0.
Simple installation with only one screw.
Adequate build quality.

Cons: Well first thing is that its only a SATA 2 connection on the on board chip, but that should pose any problems with bottle necking as it is not the limiting factor.
The next thing is something to do with the build, as I have already mentioned the build quality is adequate but the plastic is a little brittle so dont go dropping it(but I would say that for any enclosure). Another thing is the padding inside it is plenty enough to securely hold the drove in the enclosure but it will not do much in the event of an impact.

Other Thoughts: Over all I am very happy with the product and feel that for the price it is quite satisfactory. For my few cons most are easily fixed with a minutes work. Now you cant fix the SATA 2 interface but that is more me being a bit of a snob than a real problem it is more than enough for most peoples usage and as I have said it will not be the limiting factor in the device. As for the padding you can fix it with a little adhesive backed foam pad but be sure not to use too much as this enclosure is plastic and it could cause a over. heating problem.

1 out of 5 eggsI call it "The corruptor!"

Pros: Price, USB 3.0 speed, Aesthetics

Cons: This Enclosure managed to corrupt files on two of my HDD's to the point where one had to be completely reformatted. I thought it was a problem with my drive at first, but when the exact same started happening on a second I threw out the enclosure. You get what you pay for I suppose.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Inexpensive; no absurd lights; very compact; simple assembly - single screw; cable is 52cm long

Cons: Inexpensive materials used (plastic); speeds slower than similar enclosures owned; the B connector is slightly recessed which could cause the connector to fail to fully seat or encourage a Joe Turbo maneuver from forceful plug insertion.

Other Thoughts: Unit was able to maintain 170 MB/s transferring 50GB file group containing files ranging from 10GB to less than 1MB. If the unit had not been on sale at time of purchase my choice would have been a competitor. The quality and controller are on par w/ enclosures in the sub-$15 range.
