Offering clean power efficiently and silently, Fractal Design Newton R3 Series power supply units (PSUs) are the ultimate choice for demanding high-end gaming computers and ultra-quiet media PCs.

The visual appearance of Newton R3 Series PSUs is proof of Fractal Design's commitment to providing innovative computer components infused with stylish, elegant, contemporary Scandinavian design.

  • newegg 80 PLUS PLATINUM CERTIFIED EFFICIENCY Newton R3 Series PSUs meet the highest efficiency specifications currently available for consumer-grade power supplies. This efficiency produces both positive environmental impact, as well as reduces electricity bills. Additionally, because the Newton R3 Series PSUs generate less heat, they provide power at lower fan speeds, which results in reduced noise levels.
  • newegg EXCELLENT ELECTRICAL PERFORMANCE Newton R3 Series PSUs feature excellent DC voltage regulation and ripple suppression; they can deliver their full-rated wattage continuously even with an intake temperature as high as 50°C. Plus, Newton R3 Series PSUs are equipped with premium Japanese capacitors for maximum reliability and longer life.
  • newegg SLI AND CROSSFIREX SUPPORT Newton R3 Series PSUs are tested and certified compatible with the latest graphics cards. They support SLI and CrossFireX configurations.
  • newegg MODULAR CABLES With the exception of a few, all cables on the Newton series power supplies can be detached from the PSU unit. This reduces the clutter, assists with a clean installation and improves the airflow in the computer case. And the 12V ("P4") connector cable is up to 700mm long to accommodate bottom-mounted-PSU computer cases.
  • newegg SEMI-PASSIVE FAN OPERATION Newton R3 Series PSUs generate very little heat, they work well without active cooling in most environmental and loading conditions, especially in a well-ventilated case. Subsequently, Newton R3 Series PSUs are equipped with temperature sensors that only start the ball-bearing fan when required to keep the operating temperature down.
  • newegg SINGLE POWERFUL 12V RAIL To provide maximum support for modern components, Newton R3 Series PSUs deliver their full wattage from a single 12V rail.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's like Apple got into making PSUs

Pros: - Phenomenal packaging. Very nice...maybe too nice...how much of the price is rolled up into the packaging? Fun to open up and enjoy though.
- Hybrid modular design
- 80Plus Platinum efficiency

Cons: - A little more expensive than some other PSUs, but so far it seems you get what you pay for

Other Thoughts: I'd always used cheap PSUs when I was younger cause it was an easy way to save money on PC builds. But doing some research I found that higher quality efficiency ratings can save you some money in total cost of ownership, so I went for better quality on this purchase. So far so good, the unit is beautiful and supremely well packaged. It installed and fit the case fine (Enermax Ostrog). There are plenty of cables for a variety of power needs.

A couple of the negative comments in other reviews note that this unit is only partially modular. That is true and if you must have fully modular, then pick a different unit. However, the choice by Fractal Design on the fixed cables is very good; they only fixed the ones you were probably going to use anyway (main mobo power, CPU fan, and two PCI Express video card plugs (a lot of cards need two now). so this wasn't a problem at all for me and should be for most users. I only ended up needing one more cable, one for SATA device power. The final result is still very clean and the cables are long enough to work fine in my mid-tower case.

It appears I may have gotten one of the last ones Newegg carried and the unit is currently out of stock. Whether that's because it's popular and sold out, or because it's problematic and they stopped carrying it, or because it's discontinued, I have no idea yet. I've only just started using the device. I'll update if any early problems develop. But right now it looks like a fine PSU.

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb

Pros: - Very quiet.
- Modular Cables.

Cons: - None

Other Thoughts: I'm going for a quiet PC setup and this PSU works so perfectly in my Fractal Design Define Mini Case. It is many times quieter than my previous name-brand 600W PSU that this replaced. The fan on my previous name-brand PSU was louder than all my case fans and CPU fan combined. I don't stress my computer too much but I do many hours of gaming. I don't think I've heard the semi-passive fan turn on or maybe it's just that quiet.
The price may seem a bit high but you will be ordering a quality product. The presentation and packaging exceeds any computer component I have bought before.

1 out of 5 eggsDefective

Pros: No complaints on the operation when it is working. Arching occurred from the first power up.

Cons: Arching occurs at point of AC cord insertion when pressure is applied to seat cord. Fear total failure. Return authorization requires payment of shipping cost ($20+) and with no power supply to replace this unit I would be stuck with $1200 worth of parts and no computer so keeping for now. Cannot order new at this time as it is out of stock. Just hope it lasts till replacement can be ordered because it is now connected to my new build from newegg.

Other Thoughts: The process of building a computer from parts ordered online is a learning experience that can be most appreciated by someone who has time to spend on the trivial pursuit of computer knowledge and a working computer to use during the progression.

5 out of 5 eggsWow

Pros: Wow... when you read the reviews of most of these Fractal Design PSUs, you think, "what's the big deal, how come they have more 5 stars generally over the other companies?" Then you get one. Silent, good looking, well made.

I got the 800w model which suddenly disappeared here. It was on the same link.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Buy it.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Polished Product

Pros: First off the packaging that the Newton R3 comes in is beautiful. The cables come in a very organized roll-out portfolio. The power supply itself sits down in some nice foam.

The unit works exactly as its supposed to. I am running an OC'd 4670K and on OC'd HD7950 and the the power supply fan never even has to spin up. I think this is a testament to the efficiency and build quality of the unit.

All the cables are modular except for the bare necessities (24 pin, 8 pin CPU, 8 pin PCI-E)

Platinum efficiency.

Cons: The CPU power connector BARELY can reach behind the motherboard to the connector in my case (Fractal Design Define R4). I feel like this is a common complaint for the manufacturers. Another 2 inches would make that part a lot easier.

Other Thoughts: The Newton R3 600W is a little pricey especially for the wattage but I think I got a lot in return for the money. The quality of the unit, the cables, and the packaging really gave me the feeling of a premium product. This unit is an investment which I expect to last at least for the next 5 years.

I have to test the wattage pulled from the wall but I'm actually pretty confident I could run two 7950's on this 600W pretty comfortably.

Nice work Fractal

5 out of 5 eggsSilent 100% pure power

Pros: Great power output and the internal fan remains 99% of the time in sleep mode = "Cero Noise" 0 dB - Love that!
The power supply comes beautifully packed with a every cable you may need. You can feel the quality just by looking at it. It is a great choice!!!

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet, Cool, Efficient

Pros: This is a very quiet PSU due to the fact that it is passively cooled. The fan only activates when it reaches a certain thermal threshold. I still haven't had it activate for me, so I can't tell if it will be loud under load or not. The cables were long enough in my Fractal Design Define R4 to reach around the back of the motherboard plate and then around the side to plug into the motherboard.

Cons: The manual for this PSU is a joke (but then again, what is there to say about it). I would have liked to have ALL of the cables removable, so they could be threaded throughout the case easier, specifically the 20+4 pin main connector, which was difficult to route due to the large end.

Other Thoughts: Cons aside, I actually love this PSU. Time will tell as I begin to OC or add components if a load brings the volume up to a level I have issue with.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Sweet Silence, modular, platinum efficiency.

600 watts fits my needs... I just swapped out an older enermax for this power supply in a Fractal Design Define R4 case. The power supply design is semi passive so the fan does not start turning until 50% of the supplies rating. I don't know if its spinning as I type this but i dare say my system is finally silent. (ps-also using a passive video card)

Cons: i read a french review and they said the packaging was excessive. i kind of have to agree but nice to have anyway.
