1 out of 5 eggsHorribly Inconvenient / Poor Design

Pros: You can send it back to Newegg.

You can run it over with a truck, and feel you have put it to it's highest and best use. It is rugged.

Cons: Inferior Drawer Design.

It Takes 50 times longer to swap a drive, than a $15 hot swap bay, that will securely hold the drive.

The design is you pull out a drawer out, throw a drive into the drawer. The drive is not secured, if you move the computer, the drive will be banging around.

The drive circuit board has to be face up just to fit the SATA cables, that are too short. So the drive electronics could potential short out on the aluminum drawer top.

The lid doesn't fit well, is hard to slide in place and can be put on backwards. It is even harder to release the latch and and slide the drawer lid off. It is very poorly machined. (made in China), despite being made of lots of metal.

The Pilot light is so reflective that it looks like it is on when it is not even plugged in.

The device was designed for XP. Comes with software probably not needed in windows 7 and certainly not needed with any other $15 hot swap drawer.

Other reviewers complain that the Fans are Noisy. Really, for $75 you can't spend the extra ten cents for quiet fans.

It was so unacceptable in function and quality, that within 3 minutes of taking it out of the box and examining it, I would never install something so poorly designed in my computer.

Other Thoughts: This hot swap unit was so unacceptable in function and quality, that within 3 minutes of taking it out of the box and examining it, I would not install something so poorly designed in my computer.

The $15 hot swap bays works much better, and allow swapping a drive in 5 seconds, instead of the10 minutes, I spent figuring out and forcing this stupid, inferior drawer assembly, that leaves the drive flopping around in the drawer, and requires manually plugging n the power and SATA cables, that are too short.

5 out of 5 eggsExactly as Advertised

Pros: -Very solid construction, built almost entirely of metal.
-Has a Molex power connector as well as a SATA power connector

Cons: - Doesn't make me toast? Although I bet you I could mod it to...
- Longer than an ODD

Other Thoughts: This device is built to last. I would have no problems with dropping the drive caddy several feet. Something that isn't apparent on the box is the fact that you actually install the drive into a caddy and then slide that caddy into the bay, rather than sliding the drive directly into the bay. Nothing to knock an egg off for, but something to be aware of.

4 out of 5 eggsHigh quality but noisy

Comments: Beautiful high quality design with solid metal is quite heavy. It works as advertised with my 300GB Maxtor SATA drive. The drive slides out inside its own case and is protected by a suspended tray and rubber grommets. The handle to pull it out and hold it is practical. You need to use a key everytime when you insert it to lock it into place and activate the power to the unit. That can be hassle for some.

I use this to backup important files and not as a daily drive. It allows me to take all the important documents with me to store in a safe place. However it is not possible to go to another PC and just hook it up as is in the case with USB drives.

The software that comes with the unit is designed for hot swapping. It seems like it is designed for people using Windows 98 or NT. So I don't recommend installing it with XP since XP allows hot swapping SATA peripherals (and I have successfully done that with this unit). Just make sure to disable write caching for this drive in the device manager. My main complaint is the loud fan on the front of the unit. Therefore I only keep it turned on when I'm actually using it.
