3 out of 5 eggsQuiet power supply that quietly dies

Pros: Quiet, compact, works well until it dies. I bought this for a silent htpc build and it is shorter than a regular ps which is what I needed to fit a longer gpu in my Lian Li case.

Cons: Incredibly poor documentation, and no description of length of warranty or support phone number. Luckily the Egg has it posted.
Lasted slightly longer than a year before dying.
A 2 year warranty for a $100 power supply?!? seriously?!?

Other Thoughts: Buy a Seasonic or a Corsair (which is made by seasonic) if you want a quiet power supply with a decent warranty that won't die on you.

Pros: compact, quiet fan, nicely sleeved cables, all the connection you could need.

Cons: dubious quality and very poor customer support (from nexus, not newegg... newegg is the gold standard).

bought to use in a silent HTPC/audiophile music server build after reading reviews that found this to be one of the most quiet PSU's available. the fan is in fact quiet, but the PSU emits a high pitched squeel that was audible from across the room.

i contacted both the US and Corporate Nexus support people and after a week or so i got a reply stating that this was a known issue that could be fixed. i replied, but never heard back... got tired of waiting on Nexus and bought a Seasonic X-650, which is competely silent.

Other Thoughts: do yourself a favor, just buy Seasonic. the X-650 is a really nice PSU for silent builds. i thought the NX-5000 R3 would be ideal after reading a review on a site that specializes in silent computing, but there is a design issue with some of these and the company is VERY slow to respond and seems uninterested in correcting known faulty equiptment.

buy at your own risk.

3 out of 5 eggsMisleading Specs - Not Modular, No EPS 8-Pin

Pros: Works. Nice looking. Compact. Seems stable, so far. Decent, but not outstanding, build quality. Reasonably priced.

Cons: No manual. Described as "modular" in the Newegg specifications and on the box. The only thing modular about are the screws.

Worse, the specifications list a "1 x 8-Pin 12V" connector. There is a 4+4 connector, but it is not compatible with EPS 8-pin 12v connector on any of my motherboards. I have no idea what it is compatible with, as one of the 4-pin connectors terminating this hybrid cable has no squares. Support is essentially non-existent.

The fan, while quiet, is by no means "inaudible." I have other PSUs just as quiet or quieter.

Cables are quite inflexible, making it difficult (not impossible) to get everything tidy.

Other Thoughts: This PSU is NOT MODULAR, and has and INCOMPATIBLE 8-PIN CONNECTOR.

I had to buy a 4-pin to 8-pin adapter to power my motherboard. If your motherboard requires EPS 8-pin 12v power connector, beware. Find another PSU or or get an adapter.
