3 out of 5 eggsWorks... Sometimes

Pros: Works. Useful controls. Easy to Set Up

Cons: Stops working randomly. You have to power cycle it to be able to browse the share. This has happened since I purchased it.

Other Thoughts: Would not buy again

2 out of 5 eggsINEO VS OPTIONS

Pros: Nice FTP Interface, USB/Lan ports. Sleep mode for HDD.
Ease of setup using software.

Cons: Not this best solution for PS3/XBOX360 Owners when trying to stream media content.

1) I know the goal is to use a cheap Ethernet Lan Storage device that supports 1TB-2TB Drives with no problem to make your own version of media streaming network devices like: WDTVLIVE Plus, NeoTV, Apple TV, etc.
2) This is not the solution for that now, but could be incorporated in better models. Sorry, if don't won't the headaches I suggest using a used Iomega Stream player or updating your Computer OS instead.

3) I recommend trying eSate Enclosures made by either this company or acomdata, worked well with Directv HR24 DVR System for over 1 year no issue. Only cost $39.99 a year ago!

Other Thoughts: I ordered one for test purposes only for another customer, I own a PS3-320Gbs/Xbox360 250GB that networked to my Media Server CPU.

My setup is as follows: LiLan Case Tower (supports 16 HD bays) MB: Gigabyte Ultra Durable GA-EP45-UD3P, 8 GB DDR3 Memory Hyper speed, 850W Silent Power Supply, Intel Q8400 series Processor. D-Link DES-1024D 24 Port Gigabyte Switch. Multiple combinations drives consisting of Sata mostly and a few EIDE's = 25TB Storage Capacity, None Raid. OS= Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit , Centos and VMware Hackintosh system.

The reason I list this, is cost. Overall, 2 years ago, building this tower cost me only $499- the hard drives and Switch. Works Very well with no problems at all. Plus I was able to make a VPN to share a 2TB Drive with friends. I am always looking for easy NAS Storage soluctions, so far Seagate Goflex Stations and WD 3TB Network Enclosures have worked the best for the $119-145 range if you can find them on sale.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat NAS for the price

Pros: FTP server works well (~500KB/s per file & 2-3 files at a time over the internet)
Works with an old WD caviler black 1TB drive I found
Also works as a print server with a 9 year old HP deskjet 5400 printer
Has a sleep mode for the hdd so it doesn't burn up

Cons: It won't work as an NAS and an enclosure at the same time (maybe I'm doing it wrong)

Other Thoughts: I saw some other NASes in the nas section for ~$100 more, and this one has more features than those!
Newegg, move this to the NAS section please!

2 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for

Pros: Cheap

Cons: 1. It has to be reset occasionally (maybe once a month), this is not a big deal to me, but it may be to you.
2. DLNA Steaming to the ps3 has several problems (some of these may be ps3 problems not problems with the nas)
a. About 50% of the videos I stream are choppy, or fail to play about half way through the video (they work fine when viewed through the samba share, but the ps3 will not read them from a samba share)
b. The PS3 does not support a wide range of compression formats. I have the best results with mpg or divx.
c. Videos are arranged by date, not by file name (I have about 300 videos so this can be a pain)
d. The nas has a limit of 10 files per folder (but an unlimited number of files per folder. This is a major problem in my opinion. In order to store all my movies, I had to rip each movie to a single folder. (there is a note about this on the ineo support forum, they basically said to fix this problem you need to get a more expensive nas (I might, but not from ineo))

Other Thoughts: Usage: The main thing I wanted to use this for was to stream movies throughout my house. I have connected an original xbox, pcs, and a ps3 to view the movies. Over the samba share the videos steam great. I have been able to steam multiple movies at once through the samba share. I have also used it as an ftp server and it works fairly reliably. I use a WD 1.5 TB Green HD, which has plenty of it's own problems. Transfer speed to this thing can be pretty slow. Depending on the day, I get a peak of about 9 MB/s down to less than 1 MB/s over a wired connection with very little other network traffic. It seems pretty random as to when the speed bogs down, sometimes rebooting helps (this could have to do with the drive or the nas). The FTP server works pretty well, as does the samba share although transfer speed can be painfully slow (ftp seems better than samba)

The above problems along with the fact that this device only has a single drive bay, and does not support gigabi

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Choice for PS3 sharing

Pros: The LAN mode support for files > 4GB seemed to work without issue and the print server feature worked fine as well.

Once all the share folders were created it seemed to play nicely with other windows machines on my home network.

Cons: Transfer speed to the unit is painfully slow in LAN mode. It works faster in USB mode, but that isn't how I intended to use it.

Its horrible when sharing media files with a PS3. The box only allows you to view 10 files per shared folder when accessing the unit from the PS3 and only supports mp3, wma and wav files. Your out of luck with purchases from itunes.

Its compatibility with the PS3 was the reason I bought this unit and it failed miserably.

Other Thoughts: I didn't really care for the INEO solution to my issue either.

"Poseidon I-NA316N1-R is a user friendly and entry level NAS. The Poseidon will be able to view 10 video files per folder on PS3, you may also create separate additional folders and to apply 10 more new videos. The unit is fairly friendly cost in the market and simple to use.

Juggernaut I-NA559N Pro, a high quality product which consists of 5 bay expandable NAS/RAID system + Complex Raid has been developed for this model. The limits will be maximized for full potential, please check google for more information and reviews.

Thank you.
Tech Support "

Spending hours creating 100's folders to split my music collection into 10 file chunks is not a viable solution and neither is spending $700 on a more capable unit

Windows sharing works as advertised, PS3 sharing look for something else

4 out of 5 eggsGood NAS for price, with issues

Pros: - Easy sharing of files via SMB & FTP
- Supports bittorrent
- Supports files > 4GB (Important because NAS only uses FAT32 file system)

Cons: - User function for SMB/FTP a little lacking. Either read-only or total access to all listed folders; no mixing of permissions.
- NAS may freeze from uploading of certain torrents

Other Thoughts: I bought this NAS to share files, run a basic FTP server and bittorrent downloads without leaving my PC on to save energy. The NAS only uses the FAT32 file system, so files > 4GB will be split unnoticed. While it does all 3 to a good level, uploading of given torrents may freeze the NAS, resulting in the need for hard reset. At worst, it may be necessary to connect the NAS to the computer by USB and manually delete the BT folder after scanning the HDD for errors to fix the problem. Ultimately good for the price, but expect issues.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Enclosure!

Pros: We've been using this NAS in our office coupled with a 1tb WD drive to backup about 10 machines. Has been working great so far. I purchased this in October and it's now March.

Cons: can be slow to copy files to, but that's been the case with any NAS I've used.

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for a simple SATA enclosure for a NAS and don't need RAID, this is definitely worth a shot.

4 out of 5 eggsThe price is right

Pros: FTP Server, SMB Server, work great and were easy to setup. Am able to steam dvd quality video on my network.

Cons: Setup may be a challenge as instructions were terrible, and online support is worse.

Bittorent is nice, but I had a problem with it not being able to find seeds for files that I was able to download on a pc. Rebooted and it worked.

Other Thoughts: Bittorent feature works ok, but seems slower than on a pc. Probably would be smarter to have a NAS with 2 HD in RAID for redunancy. Might kick myself if my drive fails, but I am not using it for any critical data.

I have a 1.5 TB WD Green, and it is working great so far

5 out of 5 eggsIts amazing

Pros: It works like a dream. Installation was a piece of cake but had to move the connectors a mm to fit properly.

Primarily using it as a network external storage via FTP so I can watch movies, videos, and music from different computers and media players around the house. It works and works well

Cons: None that I can see.

Other Thoughts: It only supports FAT32 but the thing breaks files that are bigger than 4GB by itself so its not really a problem so if you see that as a make it or break it, do not worry about it.

Using a WD 2TB drive.

Need to use an FTP program to transfer files.

Can setup different users so they can have different directories. Not using that feature but its nice.

Bought it from a different website but adding my two cents here as well.
