5 out of 5 eggsPC Power PSU for Dell Vostro 420

Pros: Mounted perfectly with existing screw holes. Took about 30 minutes to switch out the old 350 watt for the new 500W. Powered up and has been running without problems thus far. Quite and has connectors for everything imaginable.

Cons: None, other than lots of extra cables and connectors that could be a possible problem in a small enclosure but not a problem in a full sized tower.

Other Thoughts: PC Power could not tell me if that unit would work on my Vostro 420. "Not made for that particular unit." But it does and allowed me to upgrade my graphics card.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA - VERY Disappointed!!!

Pros: NONE.......

Cons: DOA!

Other Thoughts: I read the reviews here, and thought to myself: Perhaps the negative reviews are from user errors and mishandling (like many negative reviews for motherboards/ram etc.).

Not so.... The unit was simply DOA. Didn't work in my new build, older system, or the PSU tester.

Here is what is a real concern too: The box and unit showed NO signs of damage. This indicates a defective unit from the FACTORY, NOT from rough handling.

I still love PC Power and Cooling PSU's, but I am VERY disappointed in this purchase from them.

I will continue to buy PC P&C supplies but NEVER... and I mean NEVER this unit again.

After thought: You make a PSU compatible with a garbage oem system like DELL (or any other major oem for that matter), and look what happens - your unit is garbage too......

4 out of 5 eggsComputerguy of UP = id10t

Pros: Great PSU, PC P&C makes very solid units. Its is quiet and powerfully. For only 500watts, it running a Core2Quad, 460, 8gb, 3 hdd just fine for over a year

Cons: None really

Other Thoughts: Computerguy of UP, Dell uses standard ATX pin-outs on there PSUs. they have for at least the last 10 years. I know because I service them daily at work. The only thing non-standard about them is the unit size itself and cable lengths. The units tend to be a bit taller, and have different mount screw locations. the Cables are also customer to the case there made for, so there is no rats nests.

5 out of 5 eggsDell Users take note;

Pros: solid, reliable, and size allows for easy fitment.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Dell pc's use a 'SPECIAL' power supply- I believe that is why you see a lot of DOA's from Dell users. Dell moves some of the connections, and using a standard atx power supply will cause a short circuit. Possibly even damage the system board, or peripherals.

Please check manufacturer website.

NewEgg rocks! however, we users need to do our research before ordering...

thanks,
S

5 out of 5 eggsLove it!

Pros: Looks solid, excellent cable length, excellent cable shielding

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I use to buy Antec exclusively. Huge power surge fried my Antec, Antec model I wanted was out of stock, so on a recommendation of friend I bought this unit.

It appears to be much more solidly built, and the cables have better thick shielding. Will almost certainly start using this brand for future builds / repair work.

4 out of 5 eggsGood but needs better fan

Pros: This is a good cheaper PSU for an older Dell system, even with a small case.

Cons: After two years the fan is vibrating too much and is too noisy for a quiet environment.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA and dinged by New Egg for it!

Pros: None for this unit.

New Egg's fast shipping and RMA Crediting!

Cons: Put this in my machine and it booted then died. Poor quality control. Reinstalled the original PSU and the machine is working like a charm.

I also ding New Egg for this one as they charged me $10.00 to "restock" a defective unit. They were even going to ding me for return postage until I called. I will definitely never use the online RMA again as an immediately defective unit cost ME $10.00 for the privilege of tearing my machine apart including all the Dell wire routing underneath the CPU fan shroud then dealing with an RMA and having to call and ask why I had to pay shipping. Had I noticed I was getting chipped for a restocking fee I would have griped about that, but hey I am the one that ASSumed. I will NEVER buy a PSU from New Egg again.

Other Thoughts: Bought a new PSU to power an upgraded Video Card. Bought this model as I have read so much about Dell's being finicky about PSUs and this is made specifically for Dells.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Many... if you like shiny dead hardware.

Cons: DOA. Manufacturer really needs help with their support, promising 24 hour response (which consisted of changing the status of my submission from "submitted" to "acknowledged"). Have yet to hear anything resembling assistance.
