5 out of 5 eggsJust what I needed :)

This review is from: PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk III Series PPCMK3S850 850W Power Supply

Pros: Known reliability of PC Power and Cooling.

Haswell-e compatibility so I can keep this PSU when I move to the X99 platform.

Almost silent! Way quieter than previous PSU as well as significantly better air output from the rear exhaust compared to my previous PSU with a comparable 140mm fan.

Has an audible and very satisfying "CLICK" when powering on or off. I really like this for some reason.

Very positive feeling screwing the aux rails on rather than 'clicking' them on with other modular/semi-modular PSU's.

All of the end connectors are tight and feel very high quality compared to other PSUs. Even standard 4-pin molex connectors are notorious for having tilted pins that don't exactly line up to theie male/female counterparts. I didn't observe any of that with these molex connectors.

Cons: Complaining that it's semi-modular insteald of fully-modular like certain reviewers is dumb since it's CLEARLY advertisaed as semi-modular (you know who you are >:[ please don't review stuff)

This PSU is a couple inches longer than other PSU's in the same Wattage class like my previous Thermaltake Black Widow 850W - enough that it covers up the top exhaust fan exhaust in my Thermaltake Armor case. Bummer that I can't use my top exhaust fan anymore but anyone who bought an Armor series case in 2009 knows that particular 90mm fan didn't do much anyway considering the plastic cowl over it blocks all the airflow like a boss. Any modern case will accommodate this just fine since it'll probably be a bottom-mounted PSU or at least manage its top exhaust fans better. I'll go ahead an say that the improved airflow from this PSU top-mounted should mitigate the difference of not having the top 90mm fan in my case. It's that good as far as I'm concerned.

The non-modular braided cables are pretty rigid and hard to bend, but they make up for it with very tight and positive connectors. Still enough flex to integrate them into your cable management plan.

Other Thoughts: This PSU is replacing a Thermaltake Black Widow 850W that failed around the 5 year mark.

I know 850W is excessive for my system. I make it that way on purpose for expansion:
ASUS x58 mobo
LGA1366 i7 920 @ stock 2.66Ghz
12GB GSkill triple channel
EVGA GTX 980 GPU

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

This review is from: PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk III Series PPCMK3S850 850W Power Supply

Pros: Easy instal, runs super quiet even in normal mode, gets rid of access unused cords that would just be sitting in the bottom of the case blocking up fan air.

Cons: it's a bit bigger and in I have a huge case it fits flush to where the motherboard starts at the bottom of the case. If you don't have a big case this may not be the power supply for you.

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk III Series PPCMK3S850 850W Power Supply

Pros: Whisper quiet. Easy mounting. Mostly modular.

Cons: I have 2 cons. 1. They should have provided a bit more variety of cables. Only 1 cable for the old molex connectors I felt was a bit low. 2. It needs to be completely modular. I didn't need all the PCIe power cables and wish that you had the choice to only use the cables you need. I didn't realize going in how many unused cables I would have to hide/tuck aside.

Other Thoughts: Great product and does exactly what I need it to do, and it does it without making hardly the slightest noise. I would certainly buy another if needed and recommend it to others.

5 out of 5 eggsIf you blow it up, you need more amps.

This review is from: PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk III Series PPCMK3S850 850W Power Supply

Pros: I'm running a standard rig w/ a Crosshair IV AM3+ board and two very power hungry video cards EVGA 560 GTX's which require two 12v power inputs for each card. The recommended amperage for each was a minimum of 18 amps(found in very fine print on the bottom of the boxes), so I needed a combined 36 amps on the 12v rail and this power supply does the trick. Btw, I have the 850-w model. I've blown two power supplies from CoolMax, so this was the perfect replacement to feed the power hungry cards.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Power Supply...OCZ filing for bankruptcy

This review is from: PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk III Series PPCMK3S850 850W Power Supply

Pros: Solid power. Always loved my PC Power supplies. Years with no problems.

Cons: Parent OCZ Filing for Bankruptcy, Announces Offer From Toshiba to Purchase Assets on Nov. 27th 2013. Brings into question warranty status of OCZ products in the future.

Other Thoughts: If the deal with Toshiba doesn't fly, then they will either sell off the assets or liquidate. Difficult market conditions everywhere now.
