With the ST121UTP VGA Video Extender over Cat5, you can extend your VGA video signal by up to 150 meters (500 feet) and connect up to four displays (two local and two remote) from that single source. The ST121UTP is a bundled kit, and includes both a local transmitter and a remote receiver unit. It offersa complete solution for scenarios in which remote monitor displays are required.

The local unit features a single VGA input, as well as two VGA outputs, giving you the ability to view and split your source VGA signal to two independent displays locally. The VGA video signal is then sent over a standard four-pair Category 5 (or better) UTP cable to the remote unit, which also features two additional VGA outputs – giving you the freedom to display your VGA source on up to four monitors in total.

The included a mounting bracket for the ST121UTP receiver provides versatile mounting options, including wall-, desk-, and cabinet mounts.

  • newegg Cat5 Extension Design Cat5 extension design allows you to make use of your existing Cat 5 (or better) wiring infrastructure.
  • newegg Long-Distance Extension The ST121UTP VGA Video Extender increases the connection distance of VGA displays by up to 500 feet (150 meters), offering flexibility in the placement of your equipment.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: None!!

Cons: Bought 16 of these units. All show a loss of signal after just a few minutes of usage. Only way to get the unit back up was to pull the power plug. This is being installed in a 911 dispatch center. Not very reliable.

Other Thoughts: Need more R&D!!!!

Pros: Works just fine, has adjustments, unit has extra video out, nice looking.

Cons: None really

Other Thoughts: Way cheaper than others I have used and works just fine. StarTech seems to be carving out

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible Product, Worse Service

Pros: Very small package; Multiple monitor outputs on each half of device. Black.

Cons: First, I noticed it came with no cables.
Plugged it in, worked wonderfully.. for 10 minutes. After ~10 minutes, the video signal goes away, and the only way to get it back, is to unplug the power to the transmitter unit, and plug it back in.

BOTH of the units I purchased had the same problem.

Contacted StarTech. They replaced the units. (only good thing here)
New units arrived with same problem. i blamed my cabling. Tried different cable (different manufacturer cable even. all Cat5e) Still had the problem. Tried two different projectors, same problem. Tried different source. Same problem. I contacted StarTech and they said the equivalent of "Hmm. strange. Sucks to be you."

They no longer reply to my support requests, have denied my RMA, and are refusing to help. Thanks for the middle finger StarTech, let me return the favor.

Other Thoughts: I will never buy a startech product again after this horrible experience.
This is the new and "better" version of the ST121. It's new enough that they apparently haven't worked out all the bugs.

Oh, I'm only running a 1024x768 signal, and I'm only running it across 100 feet. First set of cable was cat6. When that didn't work, tried cat5e. Same problems.

4 out of 5 eggsVGA over Cat5

Pros: Really good quality as far as picture. I use this to run video signal from my HTPC to my projector.

Cons: Looses signal to the projector. You need to unplug the power and plug it in back in to gain your signal back. I had returned the first unit for this reason, but I still got the same results when I received the replacement.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Beautiful Picture, Very easy setup, just a good overall idea. Running a monitor about 95 feet away from the computer.

Cons: I use this for an additional monitor in a security system that is on 24/7. about every 24-48 hours the remote box will lose signal. But a simple unplug/replug of the remote box power brings everything right back up. By no means a deal breaker; but a problem I can't seem to find a reason for. I do plan to do some more research into the matter.

Other Thoughts: Overall its a great well priced product and for more short term use I would definitely give it five eggs.

5 out of 5 eggsWow

Pros: Split 1 video out to 4. 2 close and 2 distant. Whats great about this product is 1 its cheap! You dont have to buy 2 ends for each display. Transmitter and reciver for each screen.

Cons: None that I have. It does exactly what I needed and then some.

Other Thoughts: Great Produckt I tested it with my MacBook Pro, Projector and LCD display all worked at almost every resolution I could throw at it. Refresh rate is awsome.

Excellent Product! Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect solution

Pros: Perfect for variable length cable runs often encountered for mobile setups. No loss of quality whatsoever on 100ft runs. cheaper than buying one 15ft, 50ft, and 100ft VGA cables, and I can take a spool of cat5e and cut exact length runs punch em at the venue, good to show.

Cons: no mounting solution/hardware included.

Other Thoughts: I haven't used full 1080p HD signal over this yet, however I am interested to try, for 1280x1024 to a projector though this cable run rocks.
