2 out of 5 eggsFailed after 4 months

Pros: Worked great for the first 3 months. Recognized the USB mouse & keyboard. No funkyness with the image. Switched between computers pretty seamlessly.

Cons: When switching between computers, about 30% of the time, the mouse wouldn't detect. Had to switch again to make it work. Some times multiple times.

After 3 months, it started to produce noticable wavy lines on the monitor (refresh lines). It started to get worse over time, but never horrible.

After 4 months, the USB ports stopped detecting. Just shows that there is an error with the USB device.

Other Thoughts: Thought this was a pretty good unit & value at first. Didn't mind the switching thing so much. However, failure obviously doesn't work for me.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Simple install, works great, no problems. Since it doesn't have to use hot keys, I don't run into conflicts

Cons: none

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Nothing exceptional

Cons: 1) You cannot hit scroll+scroll too quick or it will not work. 2) You must wait a while before you switch back to console. 3) Does not recognize scroll+scroll command when at non-windows screens (ie, startup, BIOS, bootable applications). 4) Does not switch to first computer if second is shutdown. Also, scroll+scroll will not switch you, you need to hit the button. 5) Switching device add/removes HID and HID is sometimes lost and takes a while to refresh (ie, loss of keyboard/mouse)

Other Thoughts: Does its job 80% of the time. Purchase something of better quality.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat little KVM

Pros: An excellent product for what it is....Works great as a switch; never have to wait for it to catch up with what I'm doing. I use it with my Windows XP machine and my Macbook pro, and have never had any issues while switching between the two machines.

Cons: The audio ports produce a lot of noise when the speakers are routed through it. I've since disconnected the speakers and given up on them. I guess having a true analog audio switch combined is a little too much to ask for when making a kvm switch. I wish it was a metal housing, and had a little weight to it, instead of the small little plastic housing that it's in. I've kinda had to hide it behind the monitor to keep my desk space as clean and free on cables as possible.

Other Thoughts: Very satisfied as a whole though, and I get a lot of troublefree use from it.

4 out of 5 eggsA Good Switch

Pros: I use the switch between a windows xp computer and a linux (kubuntu) computor. The hot swap key works with both OS's with out load the included drivers.
Easy to install.

Cons: Cables could be longer, though they worked in my application.

4 out of 5 eggsmonky9000

Pros: USB, audio, hotkey switching. have not had any operational issues at all thus far.

Cons: slightly pricey at regular price. short cables (4 feet) included. this turned out to be a pain for my use. furthermore, while longer KVM cables are easy to come by, extending the audio cables means buying two male to female extensions, since startech doesn't seem to make longer audio cables for this.

Other Thoughts: when i got it, newegg had it for around half price. at regular price it isn't quite the bargain that i got it for, since the TRENDnet TK-209K appears to be the *exact* same item for lower cost. the trendnet unit is a different color of course, but look closely - the same exact design implies that both KVMs are built by a third party for branding by *both* startech and trendnet.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Value, Works Well

Pros: Highly cost-effective, works as advertised. Has no trouble switching between my desktop and my laptop (which I plug in on-the-fly when I need it). Provides a convenient location and method for using the desktop monitor, instead of having to plug/unplug the monitor and peripheral cables every time I want to use them.

Cons: Occasionally, my USB keyboard will act a little weird. This *could* be because I also had a Zonet 4-port USB Mousepad with Speakers plugged in as well (since returned). Sometimes, I'll type, what I've typed doesn't show up on screen; then it races to catch up. (Similar to having a *really* slow Internet connection.) I can't tell if this item is the cause, however.

Other Thoughts: Says the mouse port is optimized for mice and took a chance that it would also accept normal USB items. Used the mouse port to plug in a 4-port USB hub (mousepad, mentioned above), and it seems to work fine (although that might cause the keyboard interference I mentioned). Well-worth the price I paid, even if the kb issue is caused by the KVM switch. It's a minor annoyance for a major convenience, and a terrific price.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome KVM

Pros: No ghosting at 1680x1050 and 1920x1080 resolutions, woo! Great feature list, hard to beat at its price range.

Cons: Requires USB bus power. The Scroll Lock + Scroll Lock key combo doesn't seem to work in XP for me, but manual switching makes this otherwise irrelevant, and I may be doing it wrong as I'm using this to switch between my laptop and my Xbox 360, and I'm currently not using the other VGA+USB cable provided, so this may be my own doing. I also wish the VGA and USB portions could be seperated farther apart, but these are all picking nits.

Other Thoughts: While my list of cons is long, those are merely nitpicking issues. I definitely recommend this KVM switch if you need a low-price one that can do audio and USB.

5 out of 5 eggsMy first but a smart choice

Pros: Lets you use the same keyboard and mouse, but speakers and mic as well.

Cons: Doesn't look to attractive and the placement of the ports on the device is a little hard to manage.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: No issues when switching between my Macbook Pro and Windows Vista desktop PC. Video quality is better than I would have expected.

Cons: Short cables. Audio quality is mediocre at best.

Other Thoughts: When dealing with KVM switches, you get what you pay for. There are certainly KVMs that offer higher quality video and audio, but they tend to cost a lot more. This is a solid unit for basic use.
