3 out of 5 eggsNC 300

Pros: When you have an antique laying around.... Really any tv/pc in the last 5 years has hdmi, so the need for this is small so don't look for any improvements.

Cons: Internal joints on rca connectors are very weak and you find that you have to hold cables just so for it to output video. S-video/composite button on top seems like it could have been easily eliminated.

Other Thoughts: we use these to convert vga video from NC 300 nurse call systems to VGA monitors. Newer 300II and 400's are VGA, so just for the really old ones out there.

3 out of 5 eggsWell it works....

Pros: VGA input to VGA output remains unchanged. Very easy set up that dos not require a USB support from a computer.

Cons: Video Game Jockey (VGJ) uses a 640 x 480 resolution according to my monitor, the manual however doesn’t specify its resolution. VGJ provides no other resolutions. It has a brightness button that does work for the most part and a screen position button that my monitor promptly ignores (not that positioning is a problem). If you want to know how VGJ composite video (not your VGA video in) will look on you monitor, simply change your display to 640 X 480. To give you an idea, if you don’t know how or don’t wish to mess with your display setting, this text would be very difficult, if not impossible to read if your screen size was much more than a net book or a 15 inch monitor. Sadly, netbooks, or the one I have, don’t support video in. Only video out.

Other Thoughts: If you’re used to bad TV images, this isn’t bad. However, I doubt a Wii controller would ever work with it and I honestly would never use it with my Xbox 360. For now I use it with my Sony blue ray to watch online video. It works…

2 out of 5 eggsBad Video Quality

Pros: Easy to setup, some cables included, VGA pass-through. Does what it's supposed to do.

Cons: Horrible audio/video quality. There's no point to a device that looks worse then a 20 year old SDTV. i was really looking forward to this since my TV has some discoloration, but after seeing the quality of the output, I'd rather deal with my SDTV then the horrible picture produces by this box.

4 out of 5 eggsWAD for the most part

Pros: Simple design, cable included, easy to set up, decent video quality output except for the...

Cons: VGA passthrough reduces quality more than I could accept, but your mileage may vary.

Other Thoughts: I have a satellite receiver and a digital tuner connected to a Mitsubishi monitor with better results than I expected.

The most remarkable thing about this whole transaction was the fact that I ordered it on Thursday at 2:35 PM est and received it on Friday at 11:30 AM est - all for the 3-day delivery price. Go NewEgg!!!!!!!!

1 out of 5 eggsstay away

Pros: none, never worked

Cons: I bought this video converter to display a camera on our robotic submarine (ROV) on a spare computer monitor. It never worked, period. I followed the manual for hookup and troubleshooting - nothing. Its claims of converting video to VGA are completely bogus. Stay away. I do not recommend buying anything whatsover from Startech. Choose a more reliable unit.

Other Thoughts: I am an electronics technician with over 8 years combined experience from military and civilian jobs.
The indications on the video converter unit - lights and menu display - show it to be 'functioning'. However, it simply does not convert video to VGA as advertised - blank screen.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Converter

Pros: Does what its supposed to and has its own brightness levels and a switch button to switch back and forth.

Cons: Picture isnt the most amazing and could be improved.

Other Thoughts: Its a VERY cheap alternative compared to buying a whole new monitor which with all the ports will go for around $150+
its small, i have my PS2 right next to it with the router on top. This all fits in between my box and my monitor

3 out of 5 eggsAlright...

Pros: * Relatively Cheap Solution to Play Video Games through D-Sub/VGA

Cons: * Bad Audio Quality
* Very Mediocre Video Quality

Other Thoughts: I have a 26" widescreen monitor, and i have me wii hooked up to it via the game jockey converter box. The graphics are not impressive. If you aren't picky about quality for sound/video, this box could work for you. Overall: Audio 5/10, Video, 6/10

4 out of 5 eggsGood, but not perfect

Pros: This does what it's supposed to do. The picture is colorful and fairly clear (for the connection) on the monitor. Works with both Composite and S-Video (though I only have a Composite cord for my Wii). Pass-through for video is nice. Near perfect latency (Guitar Hero 3's "Video Lag Calibration" came up with 0 ms, meaning it is just as good as a regular TV and doesn't lag).

Cons: The audio passthrough (both the PC and RCA inputs) is just bad...something that should be simple (an audio passthrough requires NO ELECTRONICS! just a switch) messes up the crisp high notes and makes them sound bad, especially over a good set of speakers. The video is a bit blurry at times and is almost oversaturated with color. This is understandable because composite video is a horrible connection anyways, but still not good.

Other Thoughts: Most of the problems of this are due to the nature of the input signal. Composite and S-Video are interlaced standard definition signals. This box is upconverting it to 1280x1024, which is upscaled even more by my 1600x1200 monitor, resulting in a very stretched picture. For the audio, I used a separate switch to handle audio (it sounds good that way) and just use this to handle video conversion. Luckily, there seems to be no quality loss on the video passthrough.
