1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Cool design, if it worked it could hold seven devices.

Cons: When I received the device I plugged it in and something sparked inside of it then it would not power on or do anything.

Other Thoughts: Their customer support was no help and I don't want to spend the same amount of money I already put into this just in shipping then have to wait a few weeks to maybe receive a working product.

I will be buying a similar device at a local store, I will never buy anything with the StarTech name on it again.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine

Pros: Very compact. Slick black finish. Has a small power adapter so it fits easily on power outlets.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: I've used this hub for the past 6 months and had no issued at all so far. There are 6 Saitek FIPs + one Saitek yoke connected to it and everything worked right from the start. So far, I always had good experiences with Startech product. Will buy again

1 out of 5 eggsStartech 7 port USB Hub

Pros: None. Absolutely useless device and potentially damaging to a PC's USB power bus/Hub system. I would rate it as zero eggs if I could. Startech just told me on the phone that this device is behaving normally. They also said, quote "you pretty much get what you pay for." I could barely believe it. A week before I bought it they told me it would work fine!

Cons: This device is externally powered by a DC wall adaptor.
I called Startech 2 times to confirm this device was exactly what it was advertised to be. Before I bought it. THIS DEVICE actually feed D.C. Current back into the USB power bus causing it to either overload the bus or force it into shutdown mode. Startech suggested that this was OKAY! shut it down.
Even after you power down your PC, all of your USB devices....Mouse, Keyboard, external drives...etc, remain powered up!. This is a potential damaging device.

Other Thoughts: I would ask that STARTECH remove it from the market.

And I politely ask my good friends at NEWEGG to dis-continue it.
This device is not defective. It was designed to behave in the way I have described.

1 out of 5 eggsAs with the others....

Pros: 7 ports, powered, looks spiffy

Cons: After a little while, it will drop all connections when data is streamed through the hub. Hoping a manufacturer RMA comes through, and they have fixed the issues by now. If not, guess it goes into the "I wasted my money" pile.

Other Thoughts: find something else

5 out of 5 eggsWorks out of box with Linux (Ubuntu 9.10)

Pros: Small, stylish, just works, linux support, 7 USB hubs

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I bought this to use with my Linux workstation. It works under Ubuntu 9.10 via plug-and-play. No setup is necessary. I have the power cord plugged into it as well. It works with my webcam, card-reader, and wireless mouse receiver for my Logitech MX Revolution. This is an excellent device which is small and stylish. Regarding construction quality, it is made out of plastic, but that is fine for this kind of item

2 out of 5 eggsDefective design

Pros: Small footprint, lots of ports, including 3 on the back. Works without the power adapter.

Cons: With the power adapter plugged in, it delivers current back up to the motherboard!! I can remove the power cord from the PC and the PC won't power on, but the power button light stays lit and the HDD spins. Sometimes it spins at a normal speed with a quiet hum, sometimes it makes funny clicking noises. Regardless, the HDD always spins with this stupid hub's power adapter plugged in. It must be sending power back up the USB cable to my motherboard's USB header and who knows what else.

Other Thoughts: The only thing saving this thing from a 1 egg is that it does work without the power adapter.

1 out of 5 eggsI should have listened

Pros: It does work but...

Cons: The power cord never stays in place and it acts pretty darn flaky.

Other Thoughts: I don't know if the flakiness comes from the power cord never staying put, but sometimes it does odd things like won't allow my ipod to detect, or peripherals will sometimes stop working. Buyer beware!

I'm off to shop for something to replace this piece of failure.

1 out of 5 eggsNFG

Pros: None

Cons: I used the product for about one month, with some low power items plugged into it. It just crapped out, giving me power surge errors. Don't buy this model; they sent me two, and both crapped out. I have had good success with a Belkin USB hub though; you might try that brand instead.

1 out of 5 eggsAC Plug doesn't work

Pros: It works even when it isn't AC powered.

Cons: The AC adapter (power cord) that plugs into the USB unit doesn't fit; it just hangs there for a second and then falls out, indicating shoddy quality control.

5 out of 5 eggsJust the ticket

Pros: Used this powered hub in conjunction with an active USB cable to extend keyboard and mouse. Works flawlessly even with the backlit keyboard.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: It would be great if manufacturers of USB hubs would start producing some different mounting options, for example, I would like to afix this to the wall behind my recliner to help keep wires neat running to my keyboard and if I were able to mount this securely to the wall I wouldn't have to have my end table cluttered with cables.
