3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: price

Cons: fit and finish weren't all that great. Countersunk holes could have been deeper so screws would have been flush.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Design

Pros: It turns on

Cons: It doesn't enclose anything. I put in the screws but, but the tray doesn't fit inside the enclosure with screws in place. This is really poor design, leaving my harddrive just hanging outside and unprotected.

In addition, the screws that came with the product were the high-thread harddrive screws, so they didn't even fit into my HDD.

Other Thoughts: It feels like the manufacturer tested this with 1 harddrive, saw that it worked, and shipped it. I purchased this because of the high reviews; I hope this review sways others to find a better external enclosure.

5 out of 5 eggsNice!

Pros: Nice construction! For how cheap the price is, the quality seems good. I have a 1TB SATA drive in this. The unit has a small foot print also.

Cons: The only con I can think of is that it isn't USB 3.

5 out of 5 eggsEasy install, up & running

Pros: I purchased this enclosure as a replacement for an Anzio which did not work out of the box. Like all the reviews before mine, this was an easy peasy installation. Took all of 3 minutes - if that long.

The drive was newly formatted - so I cannot say whether or not it will corrupt data as I read in another review.

Cons: No cons to speak of.

Other Thoughts: While the manufacturer is kind enough to place the installation screws in a separate tiny ziplock, you have to remove the backplate screws prior to installling. This is not noted in the instructions. However - it only takes an additional 2 minutes.

UI design is plain and simple - so if you are looking for something 'kewl' or 'edgy' - look for something else.

5 out of 5 eggsCompact & Quiet

Pros: Not having to run another machine or buy an expensive NAS or SAN for PC backup. Plugged in nice and snug. Why waste money on a WD Book that should be called an WD Unabridged Dictionary with that thickness it has. Plus you can easily slip other drives in it to do work such as recovery when it is the OS drive etc. I love these things. the IDE one I had is kind of useless now. LOL.

Cons: hmmm. None that I can see, "YET"

Other Thoughts: Cheap, but requires wall plug for obvious reasons. I'll be back if any problems occur in the next few weeks.

5 out of 5 eggsThis is the one to get.

Pros: The OS on my old PC's hard drive would no longer boot, but I was hoping I could still get some important files off it. Installing it in this enclosure and attaching it to my new PC via USB worked perfectly.

Incredibly easy to set up, took me mere minutes out of the box. Unscrew the back panel, slide it out. Attach the hard drive's connector to the enclosure's port. Use a couple of screws to attach it to the bracket, slide it back in (it's a very tight fit and this part did give me a bit of pause but eventually I got it). Connect power, connect USB, turn it on, and done.

Windows 7 recognized the hardware immediately and I was able to copy the files I needed. The old HD had 2 partitions set up on it (OS and HP_RECOVERY), and it automatically mapped a drive letter to each one.

It comes with everything you need -- power supply, USB cable, stand, extra screws for attaching the HD to the bracket, simple but clear instructions with good illustrations.

I spent more time writing this review than I did recovering my files from the drive. Worth every penny (and it doesn't cost that many of them).

Cons: The only minor difficulty I had was sliding the drive back into the enclosure. It's a very tight fit, there is absolutely no extra space.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine

Pros: Works.
Looks nice.
Seems well-made.
Includes extra screws.
Low price.

Cons: None that I can see.

Other Thoughts: What can you say? Put in a drive and plug it it. Voila - instant external HD.

You know you are going to need one someday, so you might as well go ahead and get it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Enclosure

Pros: This is a great HDD enclosure. It is very easy to assemble and I love the way the drive is supported by a tray which contains the circuit board and connector. This makes it much less likely that you would damage the drive during installation. The solid aluminum, fanless design is awesome. I have used some Vantec cases and a couple of others, but this is by far the easiest to build and install.

Cons: None so far.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat case

Pros: Easy to assemble, even easier to use.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Got one of these from my local computer shop. I love it but they busted my tale for $40. Newegg all the way from now on.
