5 out of 5 eggsWorks well

Pros: Low cost to migrate, save, and protect your data.

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: Transfers about 30 MB/sec tops with large video files.

It will get hot after about an hour of transferring files near continuously, but then again, it's only for short term uses as it's using a drive outside of any case with no fans. Just Eject it and switch it OFF when you're done and it'll cool down.

This is a must-have for system builders and do-it-yourselfers.

Pros: Works great for the purpose. I use it for my Seagate 1TB Barracuda. It's speed is up to par and it is a great buy.

Cons: When I first set this up, I noticed the power cord is unusually short and I need to keep it from the edges, afraid to have it fall.

Other Thoughts: Even though the hot swap is great to have, it leaves the hard drive exposed and I'm worried that it will fall to esd. But fortunately I kept the casing of the external enclosure the hdd came in and I use that to store it and carry it around.

4 out of 5 eggsgreat low price sata dock

Pros: Two things stand out about the Startech 2.5"/3.5" SATA dock: it works, and it has a hard on/off switch to power down the drive when not needed. I have used it multiple times and it is pretty ingenious in its overall design. Very good for data recovery!

Cons: The dock itself is light, and while the base is wide enough its light weight can potentially allow for some instability. Use it on a hard, level surface and you will never have a problem.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works as advertised. Better quality than I thought. Sturdy base.

Cons: Wish the on/off switch was on the front.

Other Thoughts: Works great to resurrect a presumed dead external with 500GB of important data. Simply removed the hard drive from the enclosure, dropped it in this dock and presto. I had access to my files again.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks with Linux

Pros: Just got this - plugged it into my Ubuntu 10.04 linux computer - it recognized my spare drive and popped up a file browser window. Nice.

Cons: Took 14 seconds for the drive window to display. This is the first drive dock I have owned, so I don't know if this is typical or not. Also, the instructions say (1) plug in your drive, then (2) turn on the dock power - but the power switch is inconveniently located on the back of the unit (turning the dock around is no good, because the USB and power cables are also on the back); I took off one egg for this.

Other Thoughts: This dock does not have an e-SATA jack - I knew that when I bought it, but that's OK for the the use I have in mind. Keep this in mind however, if e-SATA is important to you.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as Advertised.

Pros: Works exactly as advertised. Has a light that is blue when the sata drive is inserted. And changes colors while data is being transferred. It has grips at the bottom for limited movement on your desk. It works perfect and the drives inserted don't stay perfectly still. Data rates vary from 12-21 mb's. But its probably because I am only testing it on my acer netbook. I highly recommend this for everyone. Its only my first day and so far it has made a good first impression.

Cons: The only con I have but its just me is that the ac power plug is a little bulky. Other than that no problems what so ever.

Other Thoughts: Ordered it Saturday night got it Tuesday. Like always NEWEGG rocks. I have never in the 4-5 years that I have been a loyal customer ever had a problem. They will forever be my number one store for anything!

5 out of 5 eggsOwned 4 of these - all works well

Pros: eSata port + USB = max flexibility. Used this heavily to clone company desktop and laptop HDDs using Ghost.

Cons: A slight burnt smell at the base, but does not affect functionality.
Once in a while I will need to reconnect the eSata port for my XP PC to recognize - may not be a hardware issue but a software issue like AHCI...

Other Thoughts: I wish the AC adapter is small and slender - no need to be this clunky.

5 out of 5 eggsFine By Me

Pros: Fair price on a decently weighted chunk of plastic with a power off switch and a little SATA PCB inside. LED indicator thankfully emits diffused light, rather than the painful "dont leave me on at night or you'll be sorry" indicators of the "enthusiast" companies. Works with several 3.5 and 2.5 inch drives that I have on hand.

Cons: None that I can tell.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Well

Pros: Works flawlessly, use it for work, swapping 2.5"/3.5" SATA drives in and out all the time. Power switch is a nice touch. Blue LED if it's on, purple-ish LED if it's writing/reading from drive.

Cons: Only had it not recognize one drive, but stuck it in a rosewill dock and that read it... the drive wouldn't read in any other dock I have... but not worth docking an egg.
