Pros: Great for data centers and server rooms

Cons: Company does not support Linux and despite it being sold as being compatible it will not work with newer linux installations

Other Thoughts: I've used this for over a year on my Mac and it did work great and was my new best friend.... I specifically purchased this because it clearly stated that it was compatible with Linux but now that I've moved to an Ubuntu laptop I have found that the Linux software is extremely old and not compatible with newer versions of Linux. I appreciate the fact that a tech support rep worked with me to try to resolve it but ultimately he ended by telling me that their company policy is that they DO NOT support Linux and only provide minimal linux information as a courtesy. I asked if they had any plans on updating the Linux software and was told that they have no plans.

Pros: Works very well on every system I've tried it on. I use it much more than I thought I would. It comes with a really long USB cable which is nice.

Cons: Kind of expensive.

Pros: It is amazing there are not more companies making something like this for all of the engineers/techs out there that have to make unscheduled visits to data centers at odd hours when you can't get a crash cart from the skeleton staff that is on site ... or during normal hours when all of them are already in use. If you are looking at this and wondering if you should buy it for your team then stop wondering and just purchase. For every hour they stand idle during emergencies because they cannot get a crash cart you are losing money, reputation, and productivity.

Cons: price ... lack of competition makes this possible. rake it in while you can StarTech .. you've earned the right by providing the market with a decent and only choice.

Pros: Product works as advertised. Install a small app on your laptop, plug the NOTECONS01 into the laptop’s USB port. Plug the other end into the server’s VGA and USB ports. Bam - Instant KVM! The server’s monitor output appears in a window on the laptop’s screen. You can then access the BIOS and do anything else you would do with an actual keyboard, monitor and mouse plugged into the server. Have a crash cart (or two) in your server room? Throw those things away and get a couple of these.

Cons: Yes, StarTech is charging an outrageous price for this product. For the same money you could get a very nice 24” monitor. However, if space or portability is most important, this is the perfect solution.

Other Thoughts: I've owned one of these since 2009 and it still works like new.

Pros: I do service work on various headless servers at customer sites. I had been looking for something that would allow me to use my Laptop as a KVM. This device does that. It also gives you a way to share your desktop with a remote user. Something you cannot do with a real KVM. So far I have used it on Windows, UNIX and LINUX with no problems. My Laptop is running XP.

Cons: You can save screen shots of the screen as displayed but the ability to capture a full log of the events of the full session is not available.

Other Thoughts: This is a great device and I have not seen anything else that comes close but the price may stop some from buying it.
