5 out of 5 eggsGreat little enclosure

Pros: This is a great enclosure. USB3.0 rocks! Say goodbye to esata and firewire! Zero problems!

Cons: The microscopic screws that secure the 2 panels in place! They need to have a screw driver and locktite with the kit.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Value

Pros: I bought a new laptop w/two .5tb drives. I replaced the Boot drive w/an SSD and purchased one of these so I could use the drive I replaced. The case is simple, well made and easy to assemble. I didn’t damage the case during assembly nor did I over tighten the screws so I’ve had absolutely no problems at all.

I like this case and plan to purchase another. It has a good solid feel, is very compact and comes with a simple leatherette slip case.

I really don’t understand the negative reviews of this product, I used reasonable care during assembly and it is just fine.

Cons: I really can't think of any cons.

4 out of 5 eggsCompact design, standard USB 3.0 connector

Pros: Compact design that keeps the overall package small. Other enclosures have extra pieces attached that just take up space.
Standard USB 3.0 Micro-B connector. That means the cable is replaceable when lost or for different lengths.

Cons: The enclosure is powered by an ASMedia ASM1051 controller which is up to SATA 2G (3.0Gbps), not the SATA 3G (6.0Gbps) as in the specification. Not a huge con but may be misleading.

Other Thoughts: Pulled ~80MB/s transfers on a Corsair Force 3 60GB. CrystalDiskMark random writes at 62 MB/s and reads at 154 MB/s. Speeds will vary with the drive installed, but it seems like this is a pretty solid controller.

4 out of 5 eggsWorking, easy to use.

Pros: Keeps most of my games, picture, movies and music on a separate drive from my laptop. Easy to use and install drive. It don't cost a fist full.

Cons: None really. I got what I wanted!

1 out of 5 eggsNot Superman

Pros: - It worked and still works.
- Installation was pretty simple

Cons: - After about a week and a half it started falling apart

Other Thoughts: I am still transferring files with this enclosure but I have to hold it together. The two screws that do all the holding are tiny and the plastic around them cracked. I was really mad that I hardly used this and now I need a new enclosure.

4 out of 5 eggsSturdy IMHO

Pros: Case feels sturdy enough for me. I like the feel of metal and heavier electronics. Gives me ease of mind. Can't complain for the price.

Cons: Cable can be a little difficult to get in sometimes and doesn't go all the way in. I'm afraid I will break it off. Also secondary USB cord for USB 2.0 use is a concern. Could easily be damaged with repetitive use.

Other Thoughts: I about lost the screws opening it. Very small and not to mention the barbie doll sized screw driver, LOL on that one.

5 out of 5 eggsNice enclosure

Pros: Great little drive enclosure!!

Cons: So far haven't had any negative issues with it.

Other Thoughts: Really don't understand what all the negative squawking is all about. When put together correctly it is a very firm/rigid fit. Works perfectly so far. I have only owned it for a little over a week now. So I am hoping that the problems don't show their ugly little heads a few months down the road. However, if they do I will post an updated review.

1 out of 5 eggsBad Design

Pros: Looks great, light weight, and easy to carry. The USB 3.0 connection was important to me.

Cons: Falls apart. I have hardly used it, and already wrapped the case in tape in order to salvage it. Only two tiny screws hold the case together and they are not adequate. This is a bad design and I hope the manufacturer will fix this. Expect to dispose of my case shortly and buy a different case.

1 out of 5 eggsJury's Out: Win 7 PC Didn't Recognize Device

Pros: - Metal top & bottom + vents minimize heat
- USB3 cable provides 2nd USB dongle for optional use in devices where one USB can't draw enough power (ex: USB2)
- Includes tiny screwdriver to help w/assembly
- Physical workmanship looks solid

Cons: My two Win 7 laptops -- one USB3, the other USB2 -- did not recognize the device/drive within the case.
Returning to NewEgg for Replacement.

Other Thoughts: Installed SATA hard drive in SAT2510BU3 SATA Hard Drive Enclosure & connected it to USB3 port on Lenovo W510 running Win 7 Enterprise Edition 64-bit. Drive had worked successfully on same W510 computer using another USB3 enclosure. W510 did not recognize the device. Device Manager showed "Unknown device."

Contacted Startech.com tech support via chat and followed their guidance:
- Tried another disk in same Startech enclosure.
- Tried connecting enclosure to a different laptop (USB2.0). Same results. Startech Rep said replace the unit as it must be defective -- stated many others have purchased this product for use w/systems like mine without issues.

This is my first-ever Newegg.com return and I must say I'm peeved that I'll have to pay twice the shipping price to return the unit that I paid to receive it in the first place -- more than 20% of the price of the product!

Replacement better work!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat ext enclosure

Pros: Using this with a WD black 500gb drive. Getting read&write speeds around 60mb/s on usb 2.0 which is still pretty fast for 2.0. don't have 3.0 yet but will update speeds when I do.

Cons: Not much, you have to use 2 usb 2.0 ports to run a drive in USB 2.0 but that's pretty normal with enclosures. 3.0 will only need one of them but it's nice to have the cable to do both.

Other Thoughts: none
