StarTech SATDOCK22U3S Plastic 2.5" & 3.5" Black USB 3.0 Dual 2.5/3.5in SATA Hard Drive Docking Station

Pros: great soultion for hot swapping up to 2 3.0 3 Tb drives. Works mostly as discribed. Thick cable as expected with 3.0 devices.

Cons: Doesnt seem to quite get true 3.0 speeds. When transfering data using both drives speed drops, but to be expected

Other Thoughts: Purchased when recieved one of the cupons from new egg. Overall pleased with product

Pros: When it worked: it was fast!
Its not fair to rate a faulty unit since the rating should be based on how well a normal functioning unit meets your expectations... so I will change this once I get a working dock.

Cons: The dock intermittently fails and Windows reports the USB device as malfunctioning and no longer responding. It occurred rarely at first, but now can't function for longer than a few minutes rendering it completely useless.

Other Thoughts: My issues started just a few days into use and then slowly & progressively worsened. Now it fails minutes after being attached and I can't trust it so its useless to me.
Keep all your documentation and thoroughly test the dock often! I did not take the issues seriously (thinking it was Windows 8 & a new PC) and the packaging was tossed-out... now I can't RMA the dock... unless Startech want to help me?!?!?!

Pros: Compact, sturdy

Easy to use/setup

Cons: Drives don't always fit snug in the docks. Because not all 3.5" drives are the exact same size you'll find ones that won't budge and others that will jiggle. My Seagate Barracuda 3TB fits better than the Hitachi Deskstar 500 GB I salvaged. This is not entirely a con of the dock itself but for those that *need* secure connections for whatever reason should look into a different type of external connection.

Sometimes it may disconnect itself; this may be due to my laptop and not the dock, but you'll hear rumors that sound similar to this

Other Thoughts: This works on standard Apple products with a USB 3.0 interface. I have a late 2012 model MacBook Pro and I did a large file transfer (250 GB) in less than half an hour. Speed times vary, depending on what you use. Generally the external docks transfer faster to each other than an internal drive will to an external one.

Another port on the dock for USB devices would be nice (make it into a HUB) since it takes up one of my two ports, but it does what it's designed to do

Pros: A nice design, if it worked.

Cons: Drops out the whole dock during longer writes.

Other Thoughts: I tried powering it with a laboratory power supply, but there was no change in the faulty performance. It's not the power supply.

Pros: Seems like it would be great if I could get one that worked

Cons: First one would periodically drop out after 10-15 minutes of heavy activity. RMA service was great, but 2nd one is even worse. Worked for 5 minutes, then died and now it won't detect at all.

Pros: Sturdy plastic case, compact, a little heavy, I got 20+ MB/s write speed. A built-in USB 3.0 hub would be nice so it doesn't take up my only port.

Cons: Expensive, but worth it.

Pros: 1. Design & Easy to use
- A dedicated power button for each port
- Toaster like release button design
- Very solid design, decent plastic

2. USB 3.0
- Should be a required transfer speed for all docking stations due to the gadget's purpose of quick data transfer, facilitates periodic backups, external HD accessibility.

3. Reliability
- High reliability, high quality product.

Cons: Can't find any yet.

Other Thoughts: Nothing is related to the quality, but a dust cover is suggestible.

Hope this piece of wonder could last as long as my HDs.

Pros: Solid construction, unlike most of the competition's docks. Comes with 30" USB 3.0 cable.. power cord about six feet long..

Cons: A bit pricey, buy the quality makes it worth it.

Other Thoughts: The money you think you're saving on the cheaper docks will be negated when you have to pay to ship them back for RMA! This is THE one to get.

Pros: Does exactly what it's supposed to do. Fast as well.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I was scared off by the reviews of other docks. Other reviews mentioned StarTech favorably so I went for it.

Pros: I'm connected via USB3 and this thing is wonderful. I can hot swap drives allowing me to easily move HD video around and keep it off my system drives. It is quiet and there are seperate on and off buttons on the front for each drive.

Cons: None so far.
