USB 3.0-to-SATA IDE Hard Disk Drive Docking Station for 2.5in. or 3.5in. Drives

The UNIDOCK3U USB 3.0 to SATA/IDE Hard Drive Docking Station delivers instant access to 2.5in. and 3.5in. IDE and SATA hard drives through two top-loading drive slots - one for Serial ATA drives and one for IDE drives - instead of having to mount the drives into a computer or external enclosure.

The slot-loading design holds the SATA and IDE drive(s) upright inside the docks, neatly keeping them off the desk, for convenience and a clutter-free setup. For SATA drives, the HDD can be inserted and connected directly through the designated dock slot, while the IDE drive slot is conveniently positioned near the rear panel 40-pin data and LP4 power connections, making it easy to connect to the dock using the included IDE data and power cables.

Connected to the host computer through a single USB 3.0 connection, both an IDE hard drive and a SATA hard drive (SATA, SATA II, SATA III) can be connected to the HDD dock simultaneously - a convenient solution for migrating data from an IDE drive to a SATA drive or vice versa, or simply harnessing fast and simple access to the contents on both hard drives. Large capacity drives (tested with up to 4TB 3.5in. and 1TB 2.5in. drives) can be used to greatly enhance your computer's storage/backup capabilities.

The Advantage

  • Connect a SATA and IDE hard drive at the same time or separately, through a single USB 3.0 connection at up to 5Gbps
  • A top slot-loading design mounts both the SATA and IDE drive upright in the dock and off the desk for a neater workspace
  • Backed by a two-year warranty and free lifetime technical support

  • Top slot-loading SATA and IDE drive bays
  • SuperSpeed USB 3.0 compliant host interface, which supports transfer rates up to 5Gbps
  • Patented drive ejection mechanism for SATA drives
  • Combined power switch and status LED for each drive
  • Compatible with PATA (IDE) 66 / 100 / 133MBps hard drives
  • Compatible with SATA revision 1 / 2 / 3 (1.5 / 3.0 / 6.0Gbps) drives
  • Supports 2.5in. or 3.5in. hard drives (HDD) or solid state drives (SSD)
  • Compact, desktop-style form
  • Plug-and-Play and hot-swap compatible

  • Transfer files directly between a SATA and IDE hard drive, without having to transfer to the host computer first, or use multiple devices
  • Quick access to 2.5in. and 3.5in. drives, for data retrieval
  • Enables quick access to drives for imaging for data recovery specialists
  • Backup data quickly to an external drive for archiving
  • Easier multiple-hard-drive testing or benchmarking for technicians

4 out of 5 eggsHandy dock for technician work

Pros: The fact it handles IDE and Sata drives (both 3.5 and 2.5) is very handy. It allows me to work on older drives that I've had stacked up but didn't want to get rid of due to size. Mine is USB 3.0 so the transfer speeds is quite nice.

Cons: The drives (IDE and SATA) get rather hot when operating. When I do a long format, I open a window or get some air blowing on it to help keep the drive cool. I doubt it'll melt the plastic dock, but it would be nice if it had a bit of insulation around the connecting points.

Other Thoughts: If you have people bringing drives to you, this dock assures you that you'll be able to connect to the SATA and IDE drives. Well worth the money if you ask me.

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth asking price

Pros: Just be sure you know what it is.. and isn't.

Cons: This is NOT what is described in the text. Notice there are no pictures down into the bays. That's because there is only ONE sata connector. The upper bay is just a plastic shell to hold an IDE drive. I had thought it was DUAL sata with something to protect the connectors when using IDE. Nope. Need dual sata, stay far away. Plus, it is overpriced for what it is without dual sata capabilities. I would not pay more than 35-40 bucks for this device if I had known, maybe. I don't know of a technical reason they couldn't have made it dual sata+1sata/1ide.. other than logistics of getting more money by charging for two products.

2 out of 5 eggssame failure others reported

Pros: Not bought from NewEgg. Worked OK, though wobbly, drives moved around a lot in the slots easily while operating

Cons: Same failure others report -- used with two SATA cables and a 2-port adapter -- first one button's LEDs quit working and it quit communicating with the computer, the next day the other button's LEDs and access quit entirely. Drives still spin up but aren't detected.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't buy the brand again. I wish I knew one more likely to be reliable. I sure hate throwing away stuff that ought to last longer.

5 out of 5 eggsSo cool you will think you're a Ninja!

Pros: Idea and Sata in one small package. Easy to setup and swap drives. On/off for both drives. Cables included. Nice lights flash alerting you to data transfer/use.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: IDE and Sata at the same time.
I bought this to scrape data from old IDE drives and get it onto a 4TB HGST I bought here at Newegg.
Works on Linux and Windoze equally. I had no setup issues other than opening my file browser to find the partitions listed. They didn't always popup. That is my linux OS fault not the Unidock.
If you have issues finding the drives simply reboot and they should be right there.

5 out of 5 eggsRead the Directions

Pros: Works very good. Did what I needed. Step 8 in directions says to turn it on. I too was having trouble getting it recognized until I turned it on. LOL

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I clicked the buy button and went to my front door and it was not here yet. Usually I joke how fast Newegg does their deliveries. It was her the next day. Sometimes it takes longer depending where it is shipped from.

2 out of 5 eggsIncredibly disappointed.

Pros: Compact, multiple drive formats in one area. Makes for easy backups / drive testing.

Cons: I purchased this product in January of 2013. I've used it here and there (Less than a dozen or so times) and treated it incredibly well. Went to use it today and it is not being recognized by any of my computers. Drives power on but the USB 3.0 portion of it must be shot, or the controller board. Very upsetting

Other Thoughts: Little bit pricey, but the functionality of it is pretty awesome. When it works.
