1 out of 5 eggsDOA

This review is from: StarTech 2.5-Inch USB 3.0 External SATA III SSD Hard Drive Enclosure with UASP (S2510BPU33)

Pros: Nice Look! Simple, but sleek design.

Cons: Came to me DOA. Plugged it in...Nothing...

Other Thoughts: I'm sure it's a nice product when it works. I would buy one again, but at half the price I paid. Thank you, Newegg for the refund.

1 out of 5 eggsProblem with Cable or Connector

This review is from: StarTech 2.5-Inch USB 3.0 External SATA III SSD Hard Drive Enclosure with UASP (S2510BPU33)

Pros: It was a fast drive case, while it worked.

Cons: It failed with normal use in a matter of weeks.
If the cable was slightly twisted, it would still work.
My guess is a failure on the connector to circuit board failure, or some other connector related issue. Was not the cable, which worked fine with other drives.

5 out of 5 eggsUSB 3.0 case

This review is from: StarTech 2.5-Inch USB 3.0 External SATA III SSD Hard Drive Enclosure with UASP (S2510BPU33)

Pros: Good size, case is light, almost all plastic, yet not flimsy. The USB 3.0 controller is decent and proviides a speed that is expected. No tools needed, which is a better experience than I expected. Works with OSX 10.10, Linux (Debian 8), OpenBSD.

Cons: Included cable is bit short, but does not pose a problem.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Enclosure

This review is from: StarTech 2.5-Inch USB 3.0 External SATA III SSD Hard Drive Enclosure with UASP (S2510BPU33)

Pros: Cheap plastic, but I have had no problems with the enclosure breaking etc. However maybe I know how to deal with plastic items better than some people.
I don't have usap capability (motherboard) yet so I cannot comment on that performance.
I wipe and install linux on this often and have had no probelms with installation or booting from this enclosure. The drive passthrough is not as fast as having the directly connected to the motherboard, about 330 read, 235 write and .15 seek. The drive gives me about 520 read, 440 write and .10 seek when connected to the motherboard. Then again I am not using the usap.
I don't use windbloes so I can't comment on degradated os performance.

Cons: I change the drive often and the only thing I don't like is the spongy material used to take up slack at the bottom of the drive. I use it, it works, but I don't like fumbling with it every time I change the drive.
The cable is short, but it also outweighs the enclosure so it would not matter how long or short it is that would still be a problem.

Other Thoughts: This has been a handy enclosure for me both for storage, when needed, and for booting Linux from.
My opinion is that asmedia is not likely the best, but at least this one works for me.
Oh, there is a light on the "front" end of the enclosure. It is on steady when connected and flashes when transferring data.

2 out of 5 eggsIt was OK.

This review is from: StarTech 2.5-Inch USB 3.0 External SATA III SSD Hard Drive Enclosure with UASP (S2510BPU33)

Pros: It was fast enough for transfers.
It was easy to install.

Cons: It is not a durable device it started falling apart after 3 months and at 6 moths it completely failed.

Other Thoughts: I would not re purchase this item. It is not something durable for caring around it is kind of flimsy. So don't buy this Item.

1 out of 5 eggsUSB 3 Useless

This review is from: StarTech 2.5-Inch USB 3.0 External SATA III SSD Hard Drive Enclosure with UASP (S2510BPU33)

Pros: Covers the drive in a plastic shell that has a usb 3 connection

Cons: Transfer Speeds Top Out at 28 Mb/s

I tested the same drive using my dock and trasfer speeds topped out at 100 Mb/s, so its not the drive's fault. The enclosure I own might as well be USB 2

4 out of 5 eggsUASB works wonders

This review is from: StarTech 2.5-Inch USB 3.0 External SATA III SSD Hard Drive Enclosure with UASP (S2510BPU33)

Pros: when paired with a SSD rated at 500/read, we are getting speeds of 460+. the first enclosure (different brand) we used could not hit 300 with the same SSD since it did not have a chipset that truly supports SATA III/UASB.

Cons: had one instance where the SSD drive unmounted itself, but otherwise very stable. cable is short, and connection between cable and enclosure seems more loose than it should be.

Other Thoughts: wish that enclosure specs would show top-limit speeds of chipsets so that we wouldn't be wasting our money on enclosures that can't support SSD speeds

4 out of 5 eggsworks

This review is from: StarTech 2.5-Inch USB 3.0 External SATA III SSD Hard Drive Enclosure with UASP (S2510BPU33)

Pros: 1) truely support SATAIII. I used it with Samsung SSD 840EVO. I am able to get the R/W speed more than 400mb/s.
2) easy to set up. No tool/screw is needed.

Cons: USB cable is a little shaky. Esp the end on the enclosure side.

Other Thoughts: shipment is delivered by DHL, then USPS. it is slow.... Order was put in on Friday. Received the package on next Sat. The distribution center is 400 miles (6 hr drive) from my house...

4 out of 5 eggsUSB Cable didn't work

This review is from: StarTech 2.5-Inch USB 3.0 External SATA III SSD Hard Drive Enclosure with UASP (S2510BPU33)

Pros: works well. Glad I purchased this.

Cons: The USB Cable that it came with didn't seem to work at all. This freaked me out a bit, but once I swapped out that cable for another one it worked great. When connected using the original cable it didn't see like it was providing power to the HD. Even with annoyance, I am ranking it a 4 out of 5.
