3 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work with TB adapter

Pros: Enclosure design isn't horrible. It feels flimsy until you put a drive inside, then is fairly solid.

Cons: The enclosure was supposed to work with the Seagate Thunderbolt Adapter STAE128/9, but it doesn't work. It appears that the drive sits a little too far into the enclosure for it to work with the STAE128.

Other Thoughts: Was looking forward to being able to use my new SSD with either TB or USB3 connection. I guess I'll have to return this one and look for another, or just find an adapter that connects sata to usb3. Really wanted an enclosure for the drive though. Disappointed that Seagate stopped making drives for their own adapter too. Wish I could return that!

4 out of 5 eggsExpected better build quality

Pros: Metal casing, fairly simple...though instructions might help for installation. Uses the Asmedia ASM1053-6G. It makes running my VM's off a Samsung EVO SSD through USB3.0 a breeze for class.

Cons: The metal is thin, the plastic holding the drive is also fairly thin and doesn't feel too rigid(I hope it's ABS plastic at least). The micro USB 3.0 Connector sticks out a bit when connected. Though it holds well, I hear a lot of bad things about the durability of micro USB connections. The usb cord is thick, fairly rigid(doesn't want to bend much) and a bit shorter than I'd like. I also think maybe screwing in the top adapter piece through the plastic area would make it feel more durable, as the plastic top between the SATA to USB adapter piece sticks out a pinch once a drive is in it, and makes things feel flimsy around that area. The screws also start stripping fairly easy, so it better be a semi permanent solution if you buy this.

Other Thoughts: It's decent and I don't have much to compare it to, but feels a bit cheap for the ~$45 I spent on it. It's rather hard to find a quality enclosure these days that has good transfer speeds along with build I home if StarTech is reading this and they look into improving build quality and maybe do more marketing to possibly gain a good following, they may be able to take the enclosure market by storm.

5 out of 5 eggsMy SSD USM/USB/etc.

Pros: Good; build, fit & finish as well speed. The ends interchange with my OEM unit, so it's future upgradable as well letting me use my old Solid State Drive in my NAS etc. Via USM, USB, etc..

Cons: Not USB-3.1 (@10Gb ps) yet

Other Thoughts: They should have told people to put their old SSD in it connector side first, then the cover should be flush with the carrier (so the connectors fit properly) when inserting it into a USM bay StarTech is read from the right side.
