1 out of 5 eggsHorrible product!

Pros: Nicely finished

Cons: I've had this product for 3 days and out of 14 computers (servers, laptops and workstations) and only 1 has been able to detect it correctly. All of these machines have USB 2.0 ports, yet when I plugged it in, all of them displayed a warning saying "USB device not recognized" (with and without the extra power cable provided). I had to use my regular Corsair thumb drive to get the job done every single time. The docking station is actually a good idea but it's poorly built. The latch that secures the drive to the docking frame doesn't seem to like releasing it: I literally had to yank it out every time I docked it. It goes without saying that in order to work on the docked-in drive, the system needs to be shut down and restarted so that Windows can properly detect it

Other Thoughts: I'm a Sr. systems and network administrator and I use these kinds of devices on a regular basis for all my clients. I've never come across such a poorly built product. I bought it to replace a 2.5" Rosewill enclosure that died (I would have purchased the same model if Newegg still had it in stock). Obviously I have no way to determine if this is just a faulty unit or if it’s the way it really works (or better….doesn’t work), but I would definitely NOT recommend this product to any IT professional if you expect to rely on it as much as I do.

5 out of 5 eggsBest External Case Available

Pros: I am a contract programmer/network security specialist and I carry this thing around with me 24/7 365 days a year, the drive does not rattle in the case like so many others do, and the finish is bullet proof as far as I can tell. The interface works with all unix/linux variants I have found, as well as any Windows OS above 98 without drivers (thats kinda standard I know) but the UNIX is important to me and I have run across more than a few that have issues. Someone didnt like the esata dock a few reviews back, I can guarantee you it is not!!! The manufacturer stands by there product but it does not really need to because it is invincible .

Cons: Newegg is out of stock and I could use three or four more of them

Other Thoughts: fits nicely in pants and jacket pockets. The cords are a bit confusing, you do not need the extra usb connected. Any usb to mini usb cable works quite well. Data transfer with the cable it comes with seems to be a bit faster though... its lightening fast.

3 out of 5 eggsRMA

Pros: E-Sata for a 2.5" Drive, looks pretty nice, the docking station idea is just awesome.

Cons: The docking station was bad, and seems to have fried some computer components. Ouch. In the process of RMAing.

Other Thoughts: The idea is excellent, but it seems the execution may have been flawed. Sparks and overheated power cables after the drive was inserted in the docking station ensued. My fingers seem a little more pink than normal, and I'm using one of my backup PCs.

Hopefully Tagan will be nice in helping out.

Wish me luck!

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Sepffuzzball,

Please test the external HDD with another system to see if it's working. As for the
internal docking station, it might be caused by improper connection or faulty PSU. Please send us an email and let us know what brand of PSU you are using and full system spec.

Thank you!

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect moblie storage!

Pros: small, durable, lightweight, nice black finish. The included docking station is perfect for backing up the drive to your main machine with the sata interface, while retaining the on the go use anywhere option of USB!!!

Cons: the included usb cable is ugly...

Other Thoughts: my favorite feature is the docking ability/eSATA! copy data, music, movies games then bring it back home to store on your main computer with the speed of SATA.

3 out of 5 eggsICY BOX

Pros: Great Idea, small and compact, aluminum, nice black color, fit nicey into drive bay.

Cons: The instructions where not clear, didnt explain the power cords that came with the unit what so ever. the tray has a locking device that holds the the drive into place in the rack, this is very delecate, I returned it because of the amount of use I will give this I dont think it will last.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi,

The item is just as durable as any other storage device you see on the market. We use high quality chipset and components only. The products comes with 24months warranty. It will last and we stand behind our products with hassle free repair/exchange.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well

Pros: Great little enclosure. I like the bonus drive bay. Enclosure feels well made, holds the drive very. Feels sturdy.

Cons: I agree with previous poster that the drive bay is cheap. It works pretty well so far. Drive sticks a bit when ejecting.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi,

The drive bay is made out of ABS plastic. It should be sufficient to support the drive without any issue. The whole package is backed by 24 months warranty in the worst case. Thank you for choosing Tagan!

4 out of 5 eggsExtremely useful

Pros: Case is easy to assemble. HDD fits well and does not vibrate while running. The docking station fits well in my tower and the case slips in without a problem. The SATA also worked flawlessly

Cons: The assembly comes with a data USB cord and a power USB cord. I had a tough time getting the power cord to fit in the external case.

Other Thoughts: NEWEGG IS AWESOME!!!

5 out of 5 eggsJust about perfect

Pros: Nice-looking aluminum enclosure, small but easily fits the hard drive. USB, eSATA, no external power supply needed. Leather case, 3.5" mounting bay works well..it fits completely inside and has a spring-loaded release. Read/write speeds are as good as can be expected from USB, haven't tested eSATA yet.

Cons: 3.5" tray seems a little cheaply made, may be prone to breakage. SATA and molex power cables are not easily removed.

Other Thoughts: It comes with a 2nd USB cable for power, but my Asus laptop and powered usb hub both supplied enough juice to run a 160GB 5400RPM drive.
