5 out of 5 eggsNo Problems - Good Value

Pros: Works well connected to my Philips DVD player; blue LEDs on bottom are pleasing (though potentially distracting in a dark room, I suppose - they can be disconnected internally); the provided USB cable is long enough for most situations; the power rocker switch seems strong and gives positive on/off feedback; overall look is nice - not too cheap, and it's a decent shade of blue; the built-in vertical stand is a stable platform for the unit; seems durable overall; sufficient instructions are included for those who need them; it's a very good value.

Cons: It's a bit of a tight fit inside, requiring some scrunching of the floppy cable and maneuvering of the power wires. But probably better a tight fit than a lot of looseness that might allow things to get disconnected if jolted.

Other Thoughts: This unit is intended to stand vertically, not flat, so evaluate your needs in that regard. I also have the silver version that my cat has knocked off the computer a few times, and it keeps on ticking (well, not literally!).

3 out of 5 eggsGood enclosure, bad innards.

Pros: I've had this enclosure for about two years now and for the most part, it has been very reliable. Set up was simple and I did not need to install any of the included drivers on my Windows XP laptop.

Cons: Unfortunately, this enclosure was not perfect. About six months after I purchased it, the hard drive started having read errors and it eventually died. The hard drive and the faulty ribbon cable were replaced. I recently started having the same issues again but this time it's the molex power connector that is starting to give out.

Other Thoughts: Other than these issues, it has been a great external enclosure for my hard drive.

5 out of 5 eggsGalaxy Metal Gear Box II

Pros: This is an excellent external 3.5" IDE External Enclosure. It is fun to assemble; works perfectly, and I have had absolutely no issues what-so-ever. I have purchase 4 of these to date, and highly recommend this item! I love the variety of colors that they offer!

Cons: I have not found any yet! EGGxcellent!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I was looking for a hard drive enclosure that was able to run constantly without having heat or durability issues. Though I have only been running this unit for about two weeks, I have been extremely impressed with its ability to manage heat.

Cons: Lacks external USB cable.

Other Thoughts: Hard disk is securely attached (attached with screws), so one can't switch hard drives in and out very quickly. This is not an issue for my use, however.

5 out of 5 eggsRetraction!

Pros: Great Looking, Quiet, Nice blue light for both power and a flashing one at the front of the base that shows activity. For the price this is an excellent enclosure.

Cons: Little to say, if it works for you then it's brilliant. The only thing I might say is that it would make the drive just that much better to have better cooling vents in the top of the enclosure or a small fan.

Other Thoughts: For the price this enclosure is a perfect match of style and performance. If you were looking to give life back to an old drive or make use of some portable storage then this is your item. Wouldn't be handy for swapping back and forth between drives, but if thats what you're looking for get a couple more of these, the price allows it.

3 out of 5 eggsWish it worked.

Pros: Great looking, Easy to assemble, decent cooling as it vents out heat fairly well for having no fan. And let us not forget the price.

Cons: DOA. Will recognize only in Device Manager as USB Mass Storage Device under "drives" but will not in any way show up in My computer with a drive letter or otherwise, and will not show up in Disk managment via Admin tools. Shows in tray as a connected device but will not recognize in any usable way. Will be RMA'ing this ASAp.

Other Thoughts: If this will actually work after RMA I'll be completely happy with it, it really does look great and performs fine as long as it will be usably recognized by windows!

1 out of 5 eggspractically DOA

Pros: The pretty blue light comes on even when it fails to function as a drive.

Cons: Doesnt work.

Other Thoughts: It worked the first time I installed a drive and connected it to a computer. Next time and thereafter, it didnt work. Tried many USB ports, many computers, many internal drives, many OS's (Win2k, XP, Ubuntu 7), still didnt work. The drive spins up, seems to be functioning, but no computer will recognise it.

2 out of 5 eggsOkay- for a while

Pros: Nice case, easy assembly

Cons: Failed after 2 months - one day just started clicking, drive wouldn't spin up. I've tried 2 hard drives and both do the same thing. I think one of the sides of the PS is dead - either the +5 volts or the +12 volts. Now I guess I'll try newegg's 1yr replacement policy...

Other Thoughts: no vibration isolation. Placing this thing on my desk made the whole desk hum.
