3 out of 5 eggsAcomdata Out of Business

Pros: Great design, fast USB 3.0!

Cons: The company is no longer in business. BUYER BEWARE! They have no e-mail, telephone number or website. It's all gone. To bad they made great products.

Other Thoughts: I own many of these units. Since the company is no longer in business I will have to trash them.

4 out of 5 eggsNice enclosure

Pros: Easy to assemble. Decent performance. Seems to keep the drive quite cool (WD 1GB).

Cons: Glossy surface.

Other Thoughts: Regarding the attachment of the stand from another poster. It is a bit weird but you loosen the screws and then slot in the nuts to the bottom of the stand sliding them in from the back. Then re-tighten. It is not obvious and there are two drilled holes at the bottom of the enclosure that makes you think the screws should go in there (which they do not).

3 out of 5 eggsAcceptable

Pros: Easy to install the drive

Cons: The provided stand will not mount on the frame. The holes in the frame were incorrectly spaced. I drilled a new hole in the frame but the screws provided were too short.

Other Thoughts: I never understand why a manufacturer - who no doubt spends plenty of design time even on a product as simple as this - still missed the details. Didn't someone at the factory try to assemble one of these?

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: I just got one and installed a 1.5 TB Seagate 7200 rpm SATA drive under Windows 7-64 in a system running on a Gigabyte P55-UD5 mobo. I get 130 Mb/sec through an ASUS U3S6 adapter card in an x4 PCI Express slot. Same drive in an Acomdata enclosure with a USB 2.0 or Firewire 400 interface gives me less than 1/4 of that. Very quick, in comparison.

Cons: Ugly finish - glossy black that shows fingerprints. My other Acomdata enclosures have lovely dull red or black finish. In fact, I swapped the glossy black for the dull black from a USB 2.0 enclosure. Somebody at Acomdata needs good taste lessons. Also, the internal hard drive mount arrangement is chintzier than that in my other two Acomdata enclosures. All plastic on this one. They are cutting costs too much. Very good has gone to adequate.

Other Thoughts: Very happy with this enclosure (other than glossy black finish). Don't know why anyone would buy USB 2.0 or Firewire 400 or eSATA anymore.
