5 out of 5 eggsEXCELLENT!

Pros: Transfer speeds at 70mbs when using eseta! I have yet to find a dual bay USB 3.0 that works right so I settled for this model because I had 2 eseta ports that were not being used. Well, it turns out this one not only works but it works better than expected. I keep large files on hard drives, I was using USB 2.0 docks and this is an absolute 4 times faster.

Cons: It does get a bit hot, which is expected. I have a 80mm fan rigged up directly overhead and it works great. This model says "hot swapable" but you do have to go to "device manager", right click on disk drives and "scan for new hardware". No big deal, but it does not state this in the directions or description online.

Other Thoughts: I have yet to find a USB 3.0 dual bay that actually works. I went through 2 Nextstars with no good outcome and loss of respect for Vantec. It would be nice if they could figure a way to get the same transfer speeds using only one esata cable. Not too many people have 2 esata ports except for us modders.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Docking station I ever owned

Pros: This device has performed flawlessly for over a year now, with my WD 1.5 TB and 2 TB drives. The fastest and easiest way to swap out drives, or to just add additional disk space to your computer.

Cons: I don't really have any cons for this product. It performs as expected.

5 out of 5 eggsNice unit!

Pros: Two long SATA cables!
Sturdy construction; not metal, but very tough, precision molded plastic.
Holds hard drives very securely
Cables are eSATA on one end and standard SATA with a good clip on the other. Both connectors are very secure.

Cons: Needs two eSATA ports if you want to use two hard drives in it.
You do need to plug the power supply into your house current for power, but the wires are long so this is easy.

No fan - I docked a 750 gig Caviar black for a 4 hour file copy. It got almost too hot to touch, but no harm done apparently. Cooled back down to near room temp at idle.

Other Thoughts: I stared very hard at the picture of the two SATA cables on Newegg trying to guess if they were long enough for my needs. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they are a luxurious 59 inches long!

If you do routine backups where the docked drive could get hot, I think it would be best to use cooler running drives.

It comes with two plastic adapters for 2.5 inch drives. I don't have any of those so did not test.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as Advertised

Pros: High quality long cabling.
eSATA to SATA cables are a real plus.
No bridging device; 2 direct connections.
(this means no problems accessing S.M.A.R.T. data and powering-down drives)
Status/activity indicator lights.
Independant (meaning replaceable) power supply.
Healthy ~4 (IIRC) Amp UL rated power supply.
Supports 2.5 & 3.5" SATA HDDs.

Cons: No IDE bridging, drive interface support.
Status indicator lights may operate a little differently for bay 1 versus bay 2.
Divider between bays is frosted. A clear divider may better aid eyeballing connector alignment during 2.5" drive insertion.

Other Thoughts: Do not be confused; device will not operate two drives over one eSATA cable. Each bay has it's own independant direct connect eSATA/SATA drive cable. One cable operates one bay.

Must be especially careful when inserting and removing 2.5" drives; may naturally want to bend them too far back during insertion/removal. With loose 2.5" jig seating, do not have confident feeling about alignment during insertion.

Perhaps it may be suggested that future revisions, slightly angle the connector.

UNRELATED to Syba & NewEgg: Beware when trying to purchase eSATA to SATA cables. THere are *many* faulty cables (inadequate shielding, bad internal construction) being sold, that aren't worth the cost of returning.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: two working bays as long as you got two esata ports on your PC. Simple & easy to use and it also looks good.

Cons: the 2.5 bay covers just sit on top, you cannot use standard esata cables the dock has a different end L connection.

Other Thoughts: this device worked perfectly out of the box, i have not tried to initialize & format a bare drive with it yet, time will tell. overall i'm satisfied.

5 out of 5 eggspleasantly surprised

Pros: Considering the price of other dual-SATA docks/enclosures, I didn't expect much -- but it's surprisingly solid and performs well. The eSATA-to-SATA cables (the dock itself has regular SATA ports) almost stopped me from buying this dock, but once I set it up, I realized: SATA connectors lock. Unlike my "true eSATA" docks, I can bump, wiggle, and shove this thing around and the connectors don't budge. (The eSATA ends are still vulnerable, but at least they fit snugly.) The drive-clamps just barely fit around the thickest 3.5" drives, but that's good -- you can shake this dock upside-down and the drives stay put. Hot-plug works smoothly.

Cons: This isn't a port-multiplier; it uses a separate cable for each drive. No separate power buttons, though.
The whole eSATA-to-SATA thing turned out to be more Pro than Con, but I still have to keep yet another type of spare cable on hand.

Other Thoughts: The included cables are 6ft long. These docks are a cheap way to keep track of mirrored or striped drive pairs.

3 out of 5 eggsgood looking power, too long cables

Pros: Passive SATA / straight-thru.
12V brick is 4A rated and a switching supply.
BM1410A switching supplies feed each drive's 5V power rail.
Dock is minimally but sufficiently padded.

Cons: eSATA (PC) to SATA (dock) cables are too long at 150cm.
So 3Gbps max is marketing as sold.
Brick only has 2 of 4 friction "stickies".

Other Thoughts: PCB's minimally sphagetti'd traces are about 6-7cm, my internal SATA to eSATA bracket is 36cm, so total "cable length" is about 192cm or almost double the 1m SATA spec. There weren't enough errors (surprisingly few) to justify looking closer at the signals' quality.

I didn't look closely at the power design, but was surprised not to see linear regulators even though the BM1410As are from a Shanghai IC company. I guess switching designs have become common enough and cheap enough for such simple products.

So nice product, but not totally thought out. A new pair of shorter eSATA to SATA cables will be required for long-term use at 3Gbs. Running SATA (mainboard) to SATA (dock) would be a bit too fragile.
