4 out of 5 eggsCheap Way To Add A Blu Ray Drive To A Mac

Pros: I bought the enclosure so I could add an Asus blu ray drive that I already owned to a Mac. It's been working perfectly for almost 2 years now with no problems.

Cons: The only minor issue I've had is with Windows 7 drivers. I tried moving the drive/enclosure over to a Windows machine 1 time, but could never get Windows to recognize it. It wasn't a big deal for me because I primarily use it for my Mac.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Metal enclosure, easy drivers.

Cons: Capacitor exploded day 40 sending smoke into the room and the surge broke my $200 bluray drive. The unit was plugged into an UPS.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer;

Please contact us with more details about the problem with the product. We would like to know if the AC adapter is undamaged? We would like to know if the PCB board inside the enclosure is burned or not?

We would like to get ahold of the defective enclosure if it is possible.
It is very unlike for our enclosure to cause smoke due to the low voltage/current design. However, it is a opportunity for our engineering team to study the PCB board and determine the cause of the smoke.

We are more than willing to provide all of our customers with prompt exchanges whenever a product becomes defective.

SYBA offers an on-line RMA form, the user can easily fill out the form and submit it for a quick RMA return and exchange. It is SYBA's policy to answer all customer inquiries within 24 hours (M-F)

5 out of 5 eggsIt is cheap and compatible with Blu-Ray drives

Pros: It is a cheap external SATA drive case. It allows me to connect my internal BD-ROM and DVD/CD burner drive to my Mac AND my PC.

Cons: The back pannel and front "piece" are lacking a bit. The SATA and power cables are a bit short and a bit too stiff.

Other Thoughts: The case works fine. It seems sturdy except... Other users have complained that the frame is flimsy by itself. It is. Being that the cables in the back are too stiff, they make it hard for the back panel to clip to the frame. If you have one of those "longer" optical drives, it may be hard to find a place to stow the excess cable. If you do manage to get the drive locked into the case, it works just fine.

5 out of 5 eggsBUY ME!

Pros: Quick assembly, seemless, already burned a disc and it was perfect.
I own Six of these, all fine healthy baby boxes. So cute!..

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Note: once you disassemble the case, if you can't figure which end of the metal case is the front or rear: The end with the internal felt tabs is the rear. This is important as the felt applies pressure to the tabs so they lock.

And about the "Green" ends, in my opinion you have to stare to see the tint. The plastic ends are more gray with a slight hint of green. Honestly on a wood desk it's not distracting.

5 out of 5 eggsCan't beat it for the price

Pros: Very easy to install. Used to hold the LG Blue Ray burner. No issues so far. The unit was installed and ready to go in five minutes.

Win7 recognized immediately.

A no frills enclosure, but no complaints.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: As someone else said, the end caps colors are bit drab, but I'll get over it.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent for repurposing a DVD drive.

Pros: inexpensive.
Sturdy aluminum build.
Tool-less design.

Cons: none. for the low price this exceeded my expectations by quite a bit.

Other Thoughts: The device is held together by 2 tabs at the rear of the unit - they are big and look as though they will last for many uses. Even though the "rails" intended to hold your device are flimsy and cheap looking, they work great and hold the drive firmly in place. I repurposed a DVD drive that got replaced with a BD drive. Windows XP/Vista & win7 all see and use this drive as both a writer/reader as well as play movies with no problems.

5 out of 5 eggsThe perfect silver enclosure (with some slight mods)

Pros: Works great, so far. Simple implementation.

Cons: Ugly green end-caps (fixable - see below) and the power adapter is kinda iffy

Other Thoughts: I paired this up with a Lite-ON iHES208 BD-ROM, donning its snazzy, silver faceplate. Once I made sure the enclosure worked, I sprayed the ugly "army green" end caps with some Dupli-Color Vinyl & Fabric Dye, Color: Vinyl Silver, and it is now the perfect silver enclosure, IMO. I really like the simple (and tool-less) slide-and-lock design. Lastly, I replaced the questionable power adapter with a Motorola EADP-24DB, easily & cheaply found on that popular auction site.
