Pros: Works fine with no problems.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Haven't used it that much yet, but then there's not really that much to it.

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent

Pros: 1. Package arrived at the time expected and I was impressed by the packaging. It looked like a legit product, not a knockoff.
2. I ordered a previous one for someone else from a different vendor, but this one is definitely better in quality (and cheaper too..)

Cons: I've only had the product one. So far so good. Will update if anything turns out.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes what it needs to

Pros: Great speeds on most drives tested, low latency compared to other USB 3.0 drive controllers. Was easily able to get 100MB/s+ on real world tests (non-synthetic).

Cons: Included USB 3.0 cable is very short. Would not reach from the top of my desk to the USB 3.0 ports on my PC (which are about mid-case, in the rear).
When the front (2nd) port is exposed unit looses some structural integrate. Fine for light drives (2.5" or any SSD's), but having two larger 3.5" drives may not be such a good idea for long periods of time.

Other Thoughts: Haven't had any issues getting the drivers up and running automatically on any of the Windows 7/8 systems tested on, other than ones with flaky USB 3.0 controllers. Overall would recommend product when purchased for a good price. Not a bad product, but honestly not the highest build quality. It gets the job done, and that's what matters.

4 out of 5 eggsPoor quality USB 3.0 Cable

Pros: Transfer speeds are fairly fast. Without any software I am getting sustained write speeds of ~75 MB/s

Docking two drives works well and shows up as two separate drives on my PC

Have not had a chance to test the transfer function

Cons: When I first started testing this dock I could not transfer large files to it at all. The drive would become disconnected before I could even move 2 GB of data

After testing drivers and the turbo software I was still getting the same issues. I was about to RMA it when I decided I would try a different USB 3.0 cable. Immediately the problem went away and I can transfer all of my data without a issue. Everything else seems to work fine so far but I am knocking off an egg for this extra inconvenience.

Other Thoughts: If you decide to buy this dock just do yourself a favor and spend a few extra dollars at checkout for a higher quality USB cable. You might also want to get a longer one since the included one is only 1.5 feet.

2 out of 5 eggsStill needs work

Pros: I can detect and manage my SATA 1.5 drives in Disk Management with win 7. It worked well enough for a laptop to detect and use the cloned HDD.

Cons: TurboHDD Software does not work properly. The instructions are barely in English. The Clone function does not copy the drive exactly.

Other Thoughts: It did not copy the recovery partition so its functional & after cloning, you have to use windows disk management to extend the main drive partition into the empty space of the new drive. I already had a $6 hdd enclosure that gave the same benefit as this device.

Ultimately I will have to use the recovery software for my laptop to get the recovery partition back as its unusable in disk management which defeats the purpose of the drive clone.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Perhaps the settings in the TurboHDD program were not properly set.

Once in the program please check that the drive you are cloning will transfer over all information.

1 out of 5 eggsDrops USB 3.0 connection when reading

Pros: R/W works great connected via USB 2.0.
Writes fast connected via USB 3.0.

Cons: Constantly drops USB 3.0 connections when reading, Windows error code 0x80070037. (Win7 64 bit Home Premium)

Other Thoughts: I previously gave this product a 5 star review. That was when I had only used the dock to back up and verify a WinXP based server via USB 2.0.

I tried to transfer many GB of data from a HDD in the dock while connected to a USB 3.0 port. This fails with a Windows popup error code 0x80070037 which indicates a lost source asset. The USB 3.0 connection fails when I read data from a docked HDD.

This is 100% repeatable in my case. The dock works fine connected via USB 2.0. The dock WRITES fine connected via USB 3.0. I can NOT read large chunks of data with the dock connected via USB 3.0.

There is some speculation that the SATA-USB bridge chipset (JMS551) has old firmware. Other manufacturers (i.e. Vantec) have published firmware updates for their docks. Syba USA insists there are no firmware updates available and runs me through the standard Tier 1 customer service script (i.e. "ensure your drive is formatted...").

So, I like the concept of this dock and it works great under USB 2.0, but if you expect to use it on a USB 3.0 port, caveat emptor.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Perhaps the device software was not properly installed on your system.

Please check that the software was installed correctly and that the drivers for your

computer are up-to-date. Please note that we do not carry firmware updates for our devices.

Those can be found with the chipset manufacturer.

5 out of 5 eggsGood deal!

Pros: My daughter got me this and a 500GB WD hard drive as mine was showing some faults and was heading downhill. I have 7 operating systems on the disk too and it did a most excellent job of cloning the drive without any errors. This cloned my drive in less than 2 hours I would say. That alone is worth the price! I went to the manufacturers website and downloaded the software and am now formatting my old drive. I am going to backup some large files to it. Although I am not putting anything important on the old drive.

Cons: The USB to SATA cable is 2 feet long. I can get it to work with my setup but, that is a little short. But, it works for me. The USB cable where it is plugs into the back of the unit seems flimsy and if bumped or moved might easily come disconnected. But, I just plan on having it on long enough to backup some files then I will disconnect it. Both drives felt pretty hot to the touch after the cloning but doing so in that amount of time heat would be expected.

Other Thoughts: This thing cloned my failing drive like nothing I have seen before doing an excellent job while doing so. All of the rest is just a plus. If it only cloned drives for this price it would still be an excellent deal!

5 out of 5 eggsMUCH better than ribbon cables

Pros: Good price.
Attaches 2 HDDs via USB 3.0.
Fast data transfers.
Support HDD duplication w/o any host PC (I mirror drives occasionally so this comes in handy).
Works in both Linux and Windows.

Cons: Low tactile feedback when inserting HDDs, hard to figure out when they're in place.

Other Thoughts: Purchased this because I wanted a USB 3.0 to SATA adapter and I'm tired of messing with ribbon cables. I use bare HDDs to manually mirror drives on various PCs and this thing makes life much easier. Faster backups, too.
