1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work

Pros: None. It didn't work for me.

Cons: Tried to connect two Dell Precision workstations running Windows XP. Switching worked fine for the video, but the systems did not recognize the USB keyboard nor mouse connected through the KVM. ATEN tech support blamed it on the systems being incompatible.

Other Thoughts: My fault for missing NewEgg's 30-day return policy, but ATEN just shrugged their shoulders and I'm now stuck with a KVM switch that doesn't work. Buyer beware.

1 out of 5 eggsDefective with other problems!

Pros: Looks nice on desk. Graphic clarity / sharpness of text is very good. really like the addition of the light on the remote switch.

Cons: It didn't work on my second pc. worked on the first one but had some trouble at first setting up my wireless mouse and keyboard. eventually it got setup and worked well on pc #1.

rebooted into pc #2 for first time and it simply would not recognize my wireless mouse or keyboard. drivers installed ok. i then tried to pull the usb receiver out of the port to try another and literally had to use pliers to get it out. when i finally did my usb receiver was in three pieces. i then tried plugging in a wired mouse and keyboard. keyboard never worked at all and mouse would very, very slowly scroll across the screen horrizontaly. i had no control at all. to make matters worse trying to plug a wired keyboard into the motherboard was useless. it wouldn't even recognize my wired keyboard any more with the ATEN switch connected.

after an hour of frustration i took it out of my pc and set up my older kvm switch which unfortunately is not DVI and everything is back to working flawlessly.

Other Thoughts: maybe i just got unlucky and got a bad switch but the experience was painfull enough i will re-order another DVI switch from another company instead. no more ATEN switches for me.

at this price point these switches should be tested before leaving the factory.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

Pros: Had this up and running within minutes after the UPS man dropped it off. Switching between a Mac Mini and a Ubuntu Linux PC. Zero problems.

The included small remote was a nice surprise. I didn't realize it came with one. Remote even has a little rubber pad on the bottom to keep from scooting across a slippery desk.

Overall the package is better then what I was expecting.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsA real convenience

Pros: Works well.
Has a light on the switch to ensure you are looking at correct computer.
Has DVI, USB and audio connectors.

Cons: I wish cable were longer and more flexible.

Other Thoughts: I have this connected to 2 home built computers with Geforce Nvidia cards and the quality of the video is excellent. I've read where people have had problems but I've seen none. I've used all the connections, audio in and out, video, mouse and keyboard and all work well. The audio also is excellent.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: Works well. Compared to other DVI KVM switches this one comes at an excellent price.

Cons: No issues at 1mo ownership. Looks like a winner.

Other Thoughts: Not upgradable, only two ports, cables are hard wired to the device. This is definitley a consumer device.

3 out of 5 eggsUpdate to last post.

Pros: Have to commend Newegg for getting me another one quickly after I had to RMA my last one. Got it it about 8 days after shipping the last one back. This one is now working but I docked it 2 eggs due to problems getting it to work - see Cons.

Cons: Initially had video distortion with my Dell port replicator (docking station). I updated video drivers and that didn't help. No problem when DVI cable attached directly to the monitor, had to be the KVM. I checked & reseated connectors to no avail. Finally, swapping cables between PC and laptop and then it worked. Very strange problem but its all working now. Seems finicky.

Other Thoughts: While working on problems I went to update firmware of the Aten KVM but the version on the vendor's web site was lower than what was currently on the KVM. Beware, the file for the firmeware says its a higher version but the installer shows that its a lower version. You will downgrade if you use it. Looks like a vendor screw-up. I'm not very impressed with this vendor.

1 out of 5 eggsSo far not so good.

Pros: Appeared to work fine at first.

Cons: After a few hours one channel began to intermittently loose video. Had to RMA. Will see if the new one works better.

Other Thoughts: I hate having to wait for an RMA'd product. Takes 2-3 weeks from the time I ship it back to the time I get a new one. Will start looking at retail store first from now on.

5 out of 5 eggsATEN CS682

Pros: Works as advertised. Love the pushbutton remote to switch. I use with a 24" display running 1920x1200. The two boxes I switch are Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows XP laptop in a docking station.

Cons: Wish it switched a little faster, it takes usually 1 second. Sometimes it takes up to 3-4 seconds to switch.

Other Thoughts: I saw the sparkle as others have mentioned only once, I upgraded to the newest firmware version and have not seen it since. You do need to have a USB mouse and keyboard, no ps2 jacks are on the device.

5 out of 5 eggsGood KVM for the price

Pros: Installation was a breeze. With its EDID capabilities, this KVM allows both my Windows 7 PC and my Mac Pro to detect the best display settings for my Hanns·G HG-281DPB. Updating the firmware was a snap and the remote is a very nice feature. There was no issue with my Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse.

Cons: As the previous review mentioned, I too get sparkles from my Mac Pro MA970 (w/ ATI Radeon HD 2600XT). This is a little annoying, but definitely NOT show stopper.

Other Thoughts: Overall a solid KVM. Would strongly recommend.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks!

Pros: Works well when going direct from DVI to DVI without any adapters (see Cons). Passes EDID and HDCP. Virtually no lag in switching. No mouse button issues like some virtual KVMs have.

Cons: If you have a weak signal this will only amplify it. I get sparkles on my display when going from a mini-display adapter from Apple on my Macbook Pro. If I go direct to the monitor I dont have any issues, but via the KVM I have sparkles/stars. If I plug in the DVI really tight I can minimize them (plugging in the cable in the first place is very difficult), but watching video you notice the sparkles. This is likely more of an Apple issue than an Aten issue though. Also the cables could be a bit longer.

Other Thoughts: I originally had a starview KVM that for some reason stopped working (I assume it had something to do with an NVIDIA update). Basically I couldnt get any EDID data going though. So after weeks of trying to get it to work, I realized it just wasn't going to happen.

I bought this which does in fact pass all EDID and HDCP though just fine. Tested with OSX, XP, Win7, and Ubuntu.
