5 out of 5 eggswas unsure at first but im glad i purchased

Pros: no stress. worked like a pro right out of the box. switching is painless. picture quality is crisp. the switch has some weight to it and feels like its good quality. i fix comput ers all day so i needed a dvi since a lot the the new units that i get only have DVI-D ports on the back. o and i love the front side usb port on it . i have a lot of quick tools on a flash drive which i usually have to rotate between computers. not anymore. im happy

Cons: um i dont really have any other than sometime i wish the cables it came with where longer. i think they are about 6 feet which is the norm. but its no biggie.

Other Thoughts: after talking to an aten rep over the phone he explained to me that the cables that come with this switch are DVI-D only. when i got the switch i noticed that switch itself actually can support DVI-I. now i dont know if you can use other/3rd party cables with it but if any1 is planning on using a vga to dvi or whatever adapter, it wont work since the cables, not the ports on the switch itself, are stricly DVI-D only (no analog/vga). O, and i purchased this over an iogear GCS1104 because some people mention that when they restart their computers, the iogear switch will auto scan to the next active unit and there wasnt a way to turn it off. i fix computers all day and i need the bios/boot options all the time. in other words, aint nobody got time to be ninja switching back to try and catch bios splash screen. so after an iogear rep told me that aten is their parent company, i spoke with an aten rep who directed me to this sweet piece of tech. this switch has the ability to turn on/off that auto scan feature. its already off out of the box so i didnt have to meddle around with anything.

1 out of 5 eggsBuyer Beware

Pros: None - Switch does not work!

Cons: This switch does not work. The technical support is just as bad as the switch. They cannot even get the correct model number in their email responses. To add insult to injury they will charge a $24.75 restocking fee plus shipping costs to return this defective item

2 out of 5 eggsFlakey keyboard support

Pros: When it works, it works great. The picture quality does not seem to suffer at 1920x1200, the keyboard commands are quick and easy. All the cables were included.

Cons: Does not work well with Linux (requires cycling the keyboard on boot). Latest firmware is rubbish.

Other Thoughts: Do not install the latest firmware!

I used this for about two years and had to deal with unplugging/plugging in my keyboard every time I booted a linux box attached to the kvm. If linux booted, the kvm would completely disconnect the keyboard (hotkeys would not even work/no power lights). I recently bought a new mouse and that required I do a combination of unplugging both and plugging them back in in a certain order. I checked if there was new firmware and there was. Installed it and now I can only get the keyboard to work (even with just Windows) about 1 in 100 tries. It is completely random on how to get it to work as well. Sometimes a power cycle, sometimes unplugging/plugging the keyboard, sometimes with a mouse, sometimes without. It can take 30 minutes to get the keyboard to work with it.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Professional KVM

Pros: This is by far the best USB KVM I've ever used. Many others I've used in the past have all been quirky, but this one pretty much works flawlessly.

Cons: Out of the box, some of the "extra" buttons on some mice might not pass through to the PC. However, the KVM can be easily configured to use a non-emulating mouse mode, which allows full functionality.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: hasn't exploded yet.

Cons: Won't accept my Corsair keyboard, won't switch peripherals when a computer goes offline, wireless mice are hit and miss. Have to power it down regularly to even get it to function. Too expensive for something that doesn't work.

Other Thoughts: Don't bother buying this thing. I've been trying to get it to function somehow since day one. Finally switching back to my 2 port kvm, since 2 computers is better than none.

3 out of 5 eggsPower on problems

Pros: Low price, nice cable sets, solid construction, no problems with video

Cons: I leave the switch on 24/7 but often shut-down one or more computers connected to the switch and when systems are restarted the switch usually does not recongnize the mouse. Have to unplug/plug mouse, doesn't matter if wired or wireless mouse. Also have updated firmware to latest version (as of 11/01/2012) and that did not resolve issue.

5 out of 5 eggsBig improvement over old KVM

Pros: It supports my hi-res monitor. Previous KVM was a Black Box KV824A. It did not have DVI ports and what it did have did not support my Samsung 2343 2048x1152 monitor. The screen images were always a bit fuzzy. With the Aten, everything is tack sharp. Came with full set of cables including audio pink and green.

Cons: A bit expensive, but my eyes are happy now.

2 out of 5 eggsNot compatible with Linux for me.

Pros: Good quality and solid construction. Cables provided were very nice.
Worked as advertised with my Windows 7 machine.

Cons: I purchased this KVM because it listed it was compatible with Linux. However I have three Linux machines that all displayed the same behavior while the unit was in place:
The Keyboard does not function.

Mouse worked, video looked good. I was unable to type in a user name and password. Remove the KVM switch from the equation and everything worked like normal.

Other Thoughts: Was not able to consistently get into BIOS or Quick Boot menu by pressing "DEL" key or "F8" key while KVM was installed. Sometimes it worked, but mostly it did not, again this does not work for me as most of my machines have multiple hard drives with different operating systems to choose from while booting from the quick boot menu.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Gear

Pros: Sturdy construction, functions exactly as advertised.

Cons: A tad pricey, but you get what you pay for...

Other Thoughts: I'm glad I spent a bit more for this switch over some of the cheaper offerings.

4 out of 5 eggsgood switch

Pros: Unbeatable DVI quality @ 1920 with zero lag. Yes, you can run the most visually-demanding games with this switch and see virtually every frame as if you were connected directly.
Solid, heavy construction.

Cons: hardware compatibility.

**DO NOT** even think about buying this switch if you intend on connecting it to *anything* that uses a standard 15-pin analog video connector DESPITE what the description on Newegg states. The outputs/inputs on the switch are DVI-only and no number of adapters or jerry-rigging (short of a solution that involves soldering) will allow an analog signal of any kind.

While this switch has an absolutely flawless 1920 signal, **IF YOU ARE A GAMER** and your game requires the use of more than 2 mouse buttons (or you're like me and have become fond of using the mouse wheel button as a "double-click" alternative), you will be completely out of luck with this switch.

Other Thoughts: Wish I had paid attention to other reviews regarding analog. For the money, I could have picked up something else that supported more hardware. Good device overall, but would not be my first choice given a redo.
