5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This product works beautifully. The Toshiba drive slid right in. When it was hooked up it showed the two 2 terabyte drives I installed as local drives on each computer the software is installed on. It would not allow me to set up a RAID 0 because my motherboard wont recognise a drive that size.

Cons: The Seagate drive I installed needed modification before it would fit. But thats a Seagate design problem. There are six screws holding the cover on. The middle two stick up. I filed them down CAREFULLY and then it slid in. I had two Seagates on hand and both had the problem.

Other Thoughts: This is not a NAS. The manufacturer refers to it as a Network Direct Attached Storage or NDAS. You can hook it directly to your computer, according to the directions, if you dont have a network, using the Ethernet or USB 2.0. My Internet TV box does not recognise it as a NAS. But definitely a worthwhile purchase for backups and general storage.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!

Pros: Does just what it says! I have mine hidden in a closet with velcro holding it to the wall. Makes my micro case pc in the livingroom a clean and unobtrusive part of the decor. It did fine on a 100Mbs router with an occational network hiccup. I added a Rosewill RC-415 gigabit switch. WOW! Using Performance Test 7.0 disk R/W went from 4.56Mbs/5.4Mbs to 21.8Mbs/21.0Mbs! More than enough to stream HD content from disk. Great piece of gear!

Cons: None at all!

Other Thoughts: Add massive amounts of storage, keep your visable system small and clean, works great...What's not to like?

1 out of 5 eggsNot a good NAS

Pros: Nice that can be connected to PC by either USB or RJ45.

Cons: Slow. Only get a 10MB stable transfer rate on Gigabit network or when directly connected via RJ45. Only get about 5MB transfer on 100MB network. Mirror corrupts easily when used with USB connection. Sync takes anywhere from 11-24 hours. NDAS has to be connected via 1 of 10 license keys at all times if you want to use read/write capability, and only one device can have read/write at a time.

Other Thoughts: Would love to get a refund or company to send me a better one that does what they advertise.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible!!!

Pros: Small and compact

Cons: is VERY slow, even over ethernet. It will start out transferring at high speeds, then drop to 100 kbps over time. When backing up a few different PC/laptop's, it takes forever to complete the backup job. HORRIBLE piece of equipment!!

1 out of 5 eggsWhat I wanted, but poor quality.

Pros: It holds two hard drives and connects over ethernet and usb.

Cons: To connect over ethernet it needs to install software which no longer compiles on linux. It works on mac but is still pretty bad. Also the fan started making a wrenching noise and my heart stopped, thinking an HD had crashed.

Other Thoughts: It really should not need software.

4 out of 5 eggsnetworked drive for MCE Recorded_TV?

Pros: . CDROM includes the latest/current version 3.72 NDAS driver.
. Latest NDAS driver allows multiple PCs to mount the 352UN with read & write permissions.
. Two hard drives can be installed as individual drives, combined drives (JBOD) (2TB limit), RAID0 (striped) or RAID1 (mirrored).
. LPX protocol does not use IP addresses, just the MAC addresses, so network setup should be simple.

Cons: . CDROM includes an obsolete version 3.3x of the User Manual! You must go to their web site to get the improved version of the User Manual.
. LPX protocol requires installation of NDAS software on all PCs that will access the 352UN.
. USB port allows an alternative connection, but disables Ethernet and to only one PC; this unit is really too expensive to use as a USB dual-SATA-drive enclosure.
. Hard drives are not securely mounted within the enclosure and allow the drives to rattle; be very careful when moving the 352UN around.
. Annoying "Recycle Bin is corrupted" messages on startup; the FAQ has some workarounds that I haven't tried yet, e.g. reformat the drive.

Other Thoughts: I was able to designate the NDAS drive as the recording disk for Win7 Media Center. The PC blue-screened while trying to save the recording settings, but on restart the drive was mounted and Live TV could be paused or rewound using the 352UN. The PC's Gigabit NIC has enough bandwidth to receive the OTA HDTV channel from a HDHomerun tuner, record the program to the NDAS and then playback the program. The IOCELL 352UN with a WD 1TB Green (5400 rpm) drive has just barely enough bandwidth to send a second high-bitrate HD program to another PC. Lower bitrate content (e.g. typical OTA HD programs at <12 Mbs) or maybe a faster HDD would allow totally glitch-free single record + dual playback operation.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible

Pros: Looks ok

Cons: Can't be used as a regular hard drive. You must install the software it comes with and set it up as a network drive.

Other Thoughts: I dont even know if you would do if the enclosure failed. I doubt I would be able to recover my data in another enclosure. I'm returning it.

2 out of 5 eggsNetworking with a twist

Pros: Network speed.

Cons: •Only One user can have Read/Write access to the NDAS device at a time.
•All other users must have the device mounted in Read Only Mode.

Other Thoughts: For users that need to have multiple read/write users simultaneously...this product is not for you. I do not have the time to go to users and change there Read/Write access manually every time they need to store something on the drive.
