5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: Does a great job, can be tured on and off to save energy and does not take long to load once you turn it on.

Cons: When left on to long, the case can get a bit hot. It was a bit hard to open

Other Thoughts: I would get this if you need an external HD. I'm using it for a HD out of a PC that went bust.

4 out of 5 eggsNot indestructible, but works well

Pros: works well, and functionality has lasted a long time.

Cons: Cheap plastic end broke!

Other Thoughts: I've had the enclosure for well over a year and have had no issues with it. I purchased it with a 500 GB drive in it, so I didn't have to guess what size it worked with. Not the fastest thing in the world, but works perfect for backups.

1 out of 5 eggsShould be free

Pros: It DOES come with a USB cable. And, working power supply

Cons: Will NOT work with my WD 500GB drive.
Supposed to work with "3.5" SATA (Serial ATA) Hard Drive up to 750GB.(any brand)"

Other Thoughts: It did work with a 160GB WD drive
I strongly suggest that you buy something else
If you do not heed this advice. You DON'T have the right to come back and whine about having bought this Pizza Carp.

1 out of 5 eggsBooooooo!

Pros: Cheap.

Cons: The case doesn't even come with a USB cable to connect it to your computer once you put your drive in!!!?!?!?! you need a double male ended USB cable... not very common in the average USA house hold. Sure printer cables are everywhere, but not what you need. Hey Nippon, add $1.50 to the price and give us a USB cable...

4 out of 5 eggscheap price, cheap quality

Pros: cheap price, does what it is supposed to

Cons: cheap quality, but knew that before i bought. i didn't take off an egg for that. I did take one off because when i got it the box was held closed with a rubber band, and all of the plastic packaging had been opened. Obviously an open box item, but nowhere in the description. all the parts were there, and it seems to work fine, so i didn't take off 2 eggs, but still...

Other Thoughts: it took almost two minutes for my computer to recognize it. i was starting to think it wasn't going to work. Also, couldn't get it to "safely remove hardware". windows kept saying it was in use even when i wasn't using anything off it or had any folders from it open. Eventually just turned it off and disconnected. seems to be fine

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Bother

Pros: 12345

Cons: Did not work, right out of the box.

Other Thoughts: Newegg is supposedly refunding my money and letting me keep this paperweight, so a tentative good-on-ya to them.

For a laugh, check out their website. http://www.nipponlabs.com/

2 out of 5 eggsonly works on 500GB or lower

Pros: it works, its cheap

Cons: i am VERY disapointed this only works on 500gb drives and lower, this is not mentioned anywhere in the ad and i got it for a 1TB drive. it would power up the drive fine but XP would not see it. i thought it was defective and was going to rma it. after some checking saw where another user commented it would only work on 500gb and lower so i looked at the back of the box there it is in on the box supports drives to 500gb. SONOFA was the 1st thing that went through my head. if it would do a 540 i would even have a use for it since i put the 1TB in a lite-on enclosure where the 540 was and it worked so if this one would do the 540 i would be good to go, but alas it wont work either. has to be 500 or UNDER, 540 wont work. had an old 80 lying around poped it in bam worked like a champ, fast too, windows saw it alot faster than the lite-on enclosure it takes a couple of mins for xp to see it. DO NOT BUY THIS UNLESS THE DRIVE YOU WANNA USE IS 500gb OR UNDER OR IT WILL NOT WORK PERIOD.

Other Thoughts: if drive is under 500gb this is a decent enclosure for the money. just to bad its limited to 500!

3 out of 5 eggsWorks great if out of the case

Pros: I have the IDE version of this, and a SATA one on order now.
No problems with the computer recognizing the drive, no cables popping out or connectors breaking. Electronics covered by padding to prevent static discharge & other problems.

Cons: Forget about using it as an enclosure. There's not nearly enough ventilation for any drive. Thus, useless for a permanent enclosure, but works great for temporary attachment of drives.

Other Thoughts: Unlike some others, everything for these is built into one panel. So pull off the front panel, place the drive on top of the the aluminum box and use it that way. Great if you only need temporary attachment. If you want something permanent go with something else.
