2 out of 5 eggsNo good

Pros: Good design. Comes with a sturdy stand. It's easy to install the hard drive.

Cons: The eSATA port didn't work and transfer speeds over USB were less than half as fast as they were with the older enclosure that this was meant to replace (8MB/s compared to 20MB/s).
Once installed, I heard and felt movement inside the enclosure.
Some items were missing from the box as well, including the manual and the eSATA bracket.

Other Thoughts: I read the other reviews and already figured that buying this would be a gamble, and I was fine with not receiving everything, just as long as it worked.
I thought everything was fine for the first five minutes until it started acting up.

1 out of 5 eggsMissing Part

Pros: none

Cons: This product's package came unsealed and was missing the metal esata bracket to internal sata port in the upper righthand corner of the parts picture. Unfortunately, that was why I choose to purchase this particular product over competing products. There was also no "manual" as one of the other picture seems to depict--something I could care less about, but was something else that makes me wonder whether the one I received was either not new or just inaccurately depicted on the website.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't risk buying this product again, and recommend that you do not. There is a reason why the shipping isn't free. I am RMAing and sending it back out of principle, but I suspect most people will just bite the bullet and purchase the esata bracket elsewhere. I expect to be out half the price of the product and full week before I manage to purchase a satisfactory replacement.

2 out of 5 eggsDied in a year

Pros: Worked well when worked, was very satisfied untill the end came.

Cons: It died. First it had difficulty staying on for a while, then later on it just stopped working.

5 out of 5 eggsSmall, affordable, easy.

Pros: I found the enclosure extremely easy to use. The biggest selling point of the enclosure is all the accessories it comes with. Not only does it come with USB 2.0 and an e-sata cable, but also an e-sata to sata connector/bracket you can connect to your motherboard in order to create an e-sata port (in case your motherboard doesn't have one).

Cons: None to speak of.

Other Thoughts: Great value for the price.

5 out of 5 eggsvery good enclosure

Pros: got it, ran it and pleased. I use it with 1 TB WD Caviar Blue WD10EALS HDD and it runs pretty well. It copied 120 GB video files in about 1.5-2 hours so thats pretty much fast for me. Has been running very well but its only my second week running this, lets see how far it goes.

Cons: Not really a con for me but wish it was tool free.. It requires few screws to hold the HDD inside and 2 screws to lock the enclosure so if you change drives often then it can be a hassle..

Other Thoughts: definitely a good enclosure, well priced (19.49 when i bought). I will write another review after I run couple of tests on this thing..

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Seems to work.

Cons: Empty zip bag where screws should have been. Will probably contact customer support to see what to do.

Other Thoughts: Got this to try a dead hard drive. That drive didn't work but another seemed to work fine via usb and esata.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Enclosure

Pros: Cheap in price but high in quality. I've got 3 of these in use as removable backup drives. Absolutely no problems. I use Acronis B/U software and Western Digital 640 or 750 drives. I can get about eight complete backups of my XP-Pro X-64 with two 500 Gig W/D SATA drives in a Mirror array on the W/D 640 B/U unit. The new B/U has a W/D 750 Gig drive.

Cons: The specs say the box will handle up to a 750 Gig drive, but not bigger. Oh well, Acronis gives me total drive backups but doesn't back up the blank sectors.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent with no frills

Pros: Easy to setup. No problems with connections.

Cons: The powers supply is huge and heavy. If you happen to let it pull on the drive it will bend/break the jack.

3 out of 5 eggsPoor Packaging

Pros: When properly assembled, it worked just fine as an eSATA hookup to my Windows Home Server.

Cons: I ordered two units, both had broken parks. On the first one, the stand was snapped in two but the case was fine. On the second one, the plastic face plate that connects to the controller board was broken off. I can see having one bad egg, but two in the same order? Not a good sign for the manufacturer.

Better packaging by the product manufacturer could have protected this unit better. Note I am not referring to Newegg packaging... they packaged it well for shipping. It's how the pieces are stored in the product box that caused the problem with the broken stand. The broken faceplate was likely due to abuse during original assmebly.

Other Thoughts: The one unit that was not damaged worked perfectly, and Newegg support was great at getting an RMA scheduled for the exchange.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Nice

Pros: Good build quality - great price - functionality with no "bling" or frills like any computer peripheral should be - everything is included for all connectivity - I was up and running with a 500GB Seagate Barracuda I had laying around in under 10 minutes - transfer rates via USB are equal to any retail external drive I own - eSATA burst rate with my drive is 105MBS - "Tepid" would be the warmest this has gotten using the drive heavily - I would buy another one without hesitation.

Cons: As others have said the drive can clunk around a bit in this enclosure, but it's not that critical unless you plan on man-handling it. I had an unused thermal pad for an old socket 7 processor that I stuck to the drive to help transfer heat to the case and hold it snug.

Other Thoughts: The supplied USB and eSATA cables are adequate but cheap. Not surprisingly to keep the cost down. If you plan on using this enclosure on your desk and your CPU case is on the floor, consider buying longer cables because the eSATA is only about 3 1/2 feet long.
