4 out of 5 eggsGood deal, but no e-sata cable

Pros: Good deal, seems fine, fair price.

Cons: Not easy to assemble, but not hard either; no assembly instructions, Listing is WRONG: eSATA kit (eSATA bracket and cable) are NOT included, but does have the socket.

1 out of 5 eggsBroken out of the box

Pros: Looks nice, e-SATA and USB 3.0

Cons: Did not work out of the box. Bad construction. The end just fell off. The LED that was supposed to be glued in was loose and it is impossible to tell where it is supposed to go. LED doesn't work. Drive doesn't work. The AC adapter is fine. The SATA Hard drive I installed in it works fine in my PC. No documentation came with it. The end will not stay on and there is no way to fasten it. 0 stars. All thumbs down. Immensely disappointed!!!

Other Thoughts: Disappointing to say the least, Hope it is a fluke

5 out of 5 eggsBest case I've purchased.

Pros: Easy to assemble
eSATA and USB 3.0
All the cables are included

Cons: Inline power supply would be better.
Short USB 3.0 cable only about two feet.

Other Thoughts: This case is so simple to put together. Two of the four screws holding the drive in should go through the tabs on the front cover tabs to hold it in place. Two more screws for the hard drive and two screws to hold the back of the case on.

I purchased this to replace an old Smart Drive (eSATA and USB 2.0) as my new motherboard (GIGABYTE GA-F2A85X-UP4 FM2 AMD A85X (Hudson D4)) didn't recognize the old drive when it was connected using the eSATA. This drive is recognized by the BIOS and shows up under Disk Management on my Windows 8 system.

I also tested the USB 3.0 by connection to my Windows 7 system and it works great (Seeing 100MB/sec on large files). This is an ASUS motherboard and I have run into problems with other USB 3.0 drives only showing as USB 2.0 so I'm very happy with the compatibility of the device.

3 out of 5 eggsOnce it's assembled, it's ok...

Pros: Looks, the black metal case with the blue lighted front looks nice. It has both USB 3.0 and S-ATA connectors.

Cons: Assembly is not that great. The harddrive is squeezed into the case, the cable for the front lighting can easily get stuck when closing the cover again, you have to manually guide it out of harms way. Also, once the drive is in and you slide on the cover, it easily comes off. I learned that the hard way when placing it between my legs to screw the back plate on. The whole unit crashed to the floor, luckily nothing got damaged.
Also, the provided USB 3.0 cable is really short.
Performance is what I expected from S-ATA, USB 3.0 I can't tell (for some reason I only got 25 MB/s there must be something wrong with the drivers).

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent piece of equipment

Pros: Came with every thing needed to install any 3.5" SATA HDD. I own 2 of these enclosures. Good design, solid construction. I have not had any issues w/ these units. I used one with a SAMSUNG EcoGreen 2Tb drive for system backups & the other I use for HDD's from other systems that I am working on (data recovery). The aluminum case does a decent job of dissipating heat w/out a fan & protects the drive. The face & back plate are plastic but work just fine if properly installed. The face plate shows the "Cavalry" logo & is lighted w/ a blue L.E.D. that blinks to show drive activity. The units came w/, USB, e-SATA cables, and a PCI slot expansion plate w/ an internal SATA cable to add an e-SATA port if your computer didn't come w/ one, or to add an extra if needed. The unit comes w/ a plastic "foot" that slides on to case so that it will stand up on the narrow side. The enclosure is externally powered & comes w/ the usual "wall wart". There is a power switch on the back plate. Cont. below

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: If the unit is properly assembled w/ the screws provided it will NOT fall apart as mentioned in another review. The case can get a little warm if the HDD is in constant use for long periods of time. An internal fan would be nice, but then the unit wouldn't be as compact. The cost might be a little high for some people, but, considering it comes w/ USB 3.0 (up to 5Gibit/s), e-SATA II (up to 3Gbit/s) & is backwards compatible w/ USB 2.0 and will work w/ any OS from Win98 to present including Windows 8 & Mac OS X, any thing less than $40 w/ free s/h isn't a bad price either. In any case I expect these enclosures to give me many more years of reliable service & I will start offering these w/ a large HDD for my customers computers as a less expensive option for their backup & extended storage needs. One of these enclosures w/ a 2 or 3TB "Green" HDD would be great for backing up a personal computer, or to us as the backup drive for a Windows Home Server.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Comes with a stand, a usb cable, and a eSATA card (including adapter for PCI slot)

Cons: Casing is terrible, falls apart if touched. LED is glued to cover (didn't stay glued too long) making it very easy to fall off while switching drives.

If case is bumped, the internals will fall either way, I will have to glue one end closed just so it doesnt fall out.

As for the cover, it also does not stay on correctly.

Other Thoughts: A little pricey for something so simple. If the casing did not have its problems I would of went 5 stars but its such a pain, one bump and the insides fall out of either side.

5 out of 5 eggsThis is the bee's knees.

Pros: Perfect buy. Installed seagate 2tb 7200rpm and zero heat issues.

Cons: Did not come with esata cable.

Other Thoughts: I did have issues detecting the drive right away through my esata but I think it may just be the motherboard.
