5 out of 5 eggsworks fine

Pros: It working fine since a couple of months, nice design and LED light

Cons: I'ts very difficult to open it again (after first hard drive ismounted) in case you need to replace the Hard disk by another one.

1 out of 5 eggsTook a chance, FAIL. But Newegg made it right!

Pros: For the item, none. The only "pro" here was how Newegg took care of their customer....me.

Cons: Very poor design as mentioned many times already.

Big ugly barcode sticker slapped on plastic - left horrible mess trying to remove. (Which I wasted time doing before testing the item, kinda stupid of me...)

Requires mounting the drive upside-down in the enclosure. Weird. Not a problem with modern drives, if it ever was at all (seems to be no true consensus on that) but still unnerving and unnecessary IMO if they'd just mounted the circuit board differently.

Didn't work at all on a USB 3.0 port, but did work fine in USB 2.0. (Other devices work fine in those same USB 3.0 ports with same cables.)

Other Thoughts: I knew it was taking a chance, but since almost all the reviews seemed to hammer on the lousy snap-together design and I didn't care about that, thought I'd risk it.

Big mistake. Device simply did not work at all on USB 3.0 ports, Windows 7 just did not detect it at all.

It did work fine plugged into USB 2.0 ports, but that's not what I paid for.

Weirdest thing of all was it was some kind of Windows/driver related problem (but other 3.0 devices work fine on my system with those same cables) because the motherboard BIOS clearly detected the enclosure as a "Standard USB SATA Drive" or something like that, both at POST and also in the BIOS itself...but once Windows loaded, it did not "see" the drive at all.

The only bright spot is that Newegg is awesome and responded very appropriately to my polite email to customer service, as they always have.

I have been buying from Newegg since 2005, regularly and consistently, and so depending on your own purchase history, how you comport yourself in dealing with customer service, and the reasonableness of your request your mileage may vary, but I was quite happy with the solution that Newegg provided me in response to my complaint about the product.

1 out of 5 eggsQuality Issues

Pros: Cost

Cons: Very bad case design. Two halves do not fit, cannot open after mating attempts on case. Tab logs break. Cost of RMA exceed the cost of buying the part.

1 out of 5 eggsCheap

Pros: Has a nice look, but looks can be deceiving.

Cons: Very cheaply made. In fact, it's actually a external drive that Newegg or whoever distributes it to Newegg that the hard drive has been removed. Even the box it comes in says it's an external drive. Just snaps together and good luck getting it back open once its closed. Very disappointed.

Other Thoughts: Good thing I got this at a reduced price. If I would have paid the normal price of $29.99 it would have come back. Hopefully the customer will be satisfied with this product.

1 out of 5 eggsWARNING

Pros: None

Cons: This caddy burned up two brand new hard drives. I mean it made smoke come out of them. Do not buy this product. It is cheap junk and once you get a hard drive in, it is impossible to get it out again without warping or cracking the plastic.

1 out of 5 eggsGood For .....

Pros: (1.) Bought at NewEgg !! Which is the very best ever !
(2.) It showed up on time thru the U.S.P.S. Thank you !

Cons: NOTHING !! IT'S GOOD FOR NOTHING !!

No wait. I'll use it as a target.

Now that did work really good as a target.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this ! Instead send that money to me. I'll make better use of it I'm sure then this "enclosure" does.

1 out of 5 eggsCan not easily switch drives

Pros: none

Cons: When I buy an external enclosure (instead of an external drive) it's because I want to be able to change drives easily. This enclosure does not allow that.

1 out of 5 eggsUtterly Terrible

Pros: Um... well, it came with a USB 3.0 cable. That's good I guess. And technically it powers on and works I suppose.

Cons: Whoever designed this should be fired immediately. This is the worst enclosure I've ever had. The drive must be at an angle when inserting it which makes it difficult to mate it to the SATA connector in the enclosure as mentioned in the previous review. It's a nightmare to put together. Even after getting the cover on it still doesn't want to stay on real well. Broke at least one of the clips on the cover while trying to attach it. I would hate to have to try to remove the drive.

Very disappointed and frustrated with this product. It is poorly designed and is a difficult chore to assemble. Installing a drive and putting the enclosure back together was way harder than it should have been.

Other Thoughts: My frustration with trying to install a drive into it is what led me here to review this. It seems to work so far at USB 2.0 speed on a Mac running OS X 10.7. I will have a chance to test USB 3.0 speeds later. Even if USB 3.0 works fine I can't see myself buying another one. It's simply too much of a headache to deal with and honestly I don't trust it. I'd rather spend a few dollars more and get something decent. Don't waste your money on this; it isn't worth it. I wish I hadn't.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Cheap?

Cons: Flimsy, cheap plastic.
Hard to install drive as there's essentially no clearance for the drive and the angle you have to insert the drive while seating on the circuit board is acute and places a great deal of stress on the board and the USB connectors on the drive.
Windows 7 couldn't find the drive.
Terrible to disassemble to remove drive.
Broke several plastic teeth trying to pry case back open, nearly broke several more trying to extract the drive.

Other Thoughts: Save your money.
