5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!

Pros: This is a solid well built enclosure. Installation of my Lite-On IHBS112-04 blu-ray burner was a breeze. The drive was recognized by Windows 7, both 64 and 32 bit. Also worked on my Windows XP laptop. Burned Ridata 4x BD-R's without errors. I like how quiet the fan is, and that it has an internal power supply. The price is lower than many of the other cases. Overall, this enclosure is not that much bigger than the blu-ray drive it's self. My old external case is much bigger than this.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Not really a con, but I wish it came with rubber feet and a wide base to snap on for standing on end. I will be picking up some stick on rubber feet at HD. If I ever need another 5.25" case I would not hesitate to buy another one of these.

1 out of 5 eggsAddon to my other review

Pros: Works okay in Vista. Nice blue light and very hardcore aluminum.

Cons: Everything else including not honoring the warranty. They said it must be me because it's a simple interface. Well everytime I installed it. Windows would show up in Windows 7 the two items that it installed for the device. First the enclosure installed but then the drive had a red X. Drive would eventually show up but even in vista never ran right. I would test my burns with dvd info pro and it would keep testing until I was forced to turn it off and on. I brought this up to Welland and they gave be a belligerent answer. Not even remotely nice people :( I gave up ordered a cheaply made (heck have to tape the back on) Syba and both the enclosure and drive installed with 2 green checkmarks. I can only assume there is a bad chipset on the their boards. Like how NEC works on some computers and VIA does not. But they won't acknowledge this so I guess I'd have to turn to New Egg now.

Other Thoughts: The Syba works great. All the things that didn't work right on Welland work like they should on the syba. albeit with Syba you can't tell if it's on or not. The Welland is a well made enclosure with a bad Motherboard. Which goes to show looks aren't everything and neither feel. We had this happen with a $80 heavy PSU last 5 years caught fire vs a $20 lightweight PSU that still runs.

2 out of 5 eggsDon't run this in Windows 7!!

Pros: Works 99 % of the time in Vista. Loved it.

Cons: But I upgraded to Windows 7 and it's a freaking nitemare. Ready to send this back. I agree with Midwestboi , thought I installed Windows 7 or the enclosure wrong and I see this comment., Sure reads the disk but every disk including LG's own install disk. almost every folder shows up blank. So I can't recommend this to anyone running Windows 7 with an LG Blu ray burning driver. It won't work.

Other Thoughts: DVDInfoPro has problems with this enclosure in Vista. Test reaches end of the disk and it keeps going....

3 out of 5 eggsAfter further testing...

Pros: See my previous review for pros.

Cons: I thought it was the LG DVD RW that was the problem, but I recently learned it was this enclosure! I had problems where the LG drive would not always recognize discs- even though windows explorer saw the disc and contents, regular DVD software would simply say the drive was empty. Sometimes disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable helped, but not always. Then I removed the LG from the enclosure and plugged it into the computer via a Sata-to-USB adapter- and it worked perfectly! Then when I put it back into this enclosure, I had the same problems recognizing discs.
Also interesting to note that when I delete the LG drive from device manager, rebooted and reconnected, it always gives me an "unable to install" error message while in this enclosure (I'm using Win 7 x64). Yet, when you go back into device manager, it shows the drive as being in the system and working fine.
Yet, when I connected the drive via the sata/usb adapter- Win7 recognized and installed the drive fine.

Other Thoughts: What I discovered through much trial and error, is that I MUST turn this drive on BEFORE I start the computer! If I simply try to turn it on while Win7 is already running, I will have the same problems recognizing discs as before. But turning it on before starting the computer, it then recognizes every disc I put in.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for Optical Devices

Pros: This enclosure is perfect for the DVD R/W that I ordered. It was easy to assemble, and has rubber feet on the bottom. While you CAN sit it vertically, I don't trust vertical-mounted optical drives- too much of an opportunity for wobble.
The case looks very nice and matches well with a black optical device. Having the fan and easily accessible on/off switch were one of the reasons I chose this particular case- and so far- I am very happy with that choice.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Not sure why the previous reviewer was mentioning wanting a 3.5" harddrive mounting kit- when clearly this enclosure is geared for optical drives; there is no face-plate to cover the front, which would make trying to use it for a harddrive enclosure difficult- unless you wanted a wide-open front.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Replaced a different brand external case with this one. And while the other failed this seems to work fine.

Cons: Could use a wider base. Used another brand's slide on base.

Other Thoughts: Maybe a 3.5 HD adapter could be included.
