1 out of 5 eggsTime Waster

Pros: Eats time and $$ well...

Cons: Huge.

Can hang at post and corrupt bios.

Tech support was useless.

One CSR rep is rude and unresponsive.

Other Thoughts: Seems to be geared for macs, stay away - far far away if you plan to use this with Windows.

Hangs bios and corrupts it on X58 MB, hung @ windows boot on an older P35 MB...

In short, it didn't work as advertised and lots of time/energy was wasted trying to make it work with no help from Sonnet other than for them to swap it with another card that exhibited the same behavior. Silly me thought they tested the original and found the problem, but they just wasted more of my time and hard earned $$ for shipping.

A $50 Vantec card gave me full speed (1TB EVO) with no drama... should have tried that first but I thought I was buying quality.

This wasn't purchased at the Newegg.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Results!

Pros: Installed in 2010 Mac Pro with rear of card installed in fan slot. Super easy installation and the Mac pro recognized both SSDs installed on the card as normal with no extra effort or tweaks at all. Disk speed test on a single PNY480GB in the stock Mac Pro Sata hard disk slot was only 223 write and 265 read. I was disappointed at the results in the stock Mac Pro sata Hard Drive slot. BUT!! When the same SSDs were installed on this SoNNet card TSATA6-SSD-PR-E2 as a pair of PNY 480GB SSDs with the striped raid option I got almost 1 TB of fast SSD speed of 560 write and 876 MBs read. And the PNY SSD are just the inexpensive PNY 480GB XLR8 PRO that were just 299.99 each on Newegg about a month ago. It seems that the individual stock Mac Pro Sata hard drive ports must have limited read/write speeds of 225MBs/265 read/write no matter how fast the 2.5" SSD is rated. I've tried several fast SSDs that are supposed to be over 500MBs read and write. None ever went over 300MBs read in the stock sata ports, even with the SSD installed in the lower optical bay using the sata cables, the results were the same. Maybe there's something I missed on getting the extra speed from the stock sata ports. This PCIe card allows the SSDs to be used at closer to the rated SSD read/write specs. I just ordered two more of these PCIe cards from Newegg and will be using two cards with Striped raids in one system and use a card in another Mac Pro for super fast boot speed, program launching, and a video rendering output drive. Amazing results!

Cons: None. At the sale price of $234.00 ea. on Newegg the price is fair for the speed gained, and two SSDs can be installed on the one card without compromising speed, but gaining speed higher than the rated SSD specifications with the striped raid set.

Other Thoughts: This SoNNet PCIe card helped convince me to keep my 2010 Mac Pro and say fooey to the new round Mac Pros with lousy upgrade capabilities. Long live the 2010-2012 Mac Pro! The best Mac Pro ever made!

5 out of 5 eggsFast. Bootable.

Pros: Works natively under Mac OS X. No drivers or adjustments needed. Insanely fast. Bootable either single-drive or in RAID.

Cons: Bit expensive after you factor in 2 SSD's.

Other Thoughts: There is a trim enabler freeware app out there to enable Trim on SSD's in Mac OS. It will make your performance much more consistent over time.

RAID 0 with 2x 256GB Samsung EVO's gives me 930-950MB/s reads and 820-850MB/s writes.

2009 Mac Pro flashed to Mac Pro 5,1, running Mac OS 10.9.2, Xeon W3690. Card also worked fine on original Mac Pro 4,1 firmware.
