5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: sturdy, seem like quality devices.

Cons: the drives are a little hard to slot.

Other Thoughts: for whatever reason, slotting drives is a little hard with these. it seems like they want to bind during insertion. not a big enough deal to knock off an egg though.

1 out of 5 eggsfan issues

Pros: Easy access to drives.

Cons: Fans fail, overheated and damaged my disks. I'm not sure why they fail, if it's the fans themselves or the way their wired. I suppose I could take it apart and figure it out. If you're going to have 3 disks spinning that close together cooling is a required element.

Other Thoughts: Two 1-terabyte drives trashed by this piece of equipment.

5 out of 5 eggsThis thing is awesome

Pros: This is my second one. So now I have six external access to my drive vice 3. I love these things I use them on my Windows Home Server and have 5.5TB just using them.

Cons: I read the fans might be an issue, I haven't expirienced that yet and hopefully won't. But those fans are easy to replace.

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb

Pros: Looks great, incredibly easy/smooth to swap your hard drives in/out of, and high quality. I have had no issues with the fans it came with; they are silent. I've noticed other reviewers have had some noise problems with them but luckily fans are cheap to replace if yours are loud... no big issue there. Overall this product is simply a must if you need more HDDs and have two bays free in your PC or your just looking for a good hot swap rack. Also the connections are solid, no problems with any of the hard drives losing a connection in the past.

Cons: Doesn't come loaded with three free 1.5TB hard drives :P

Other Thoughts: If your still contemplating on a hot swap rack and just want to use two of your front ports on your PC BUY this rack and you will not be disappointed! Simply a great product

2 out of 5 eggsGreat Idea, Bad Components

Pros: This is the perfect way to put your smaller SATA drives to good use. I bought it to use SATA drives for backups that I could just grab and go if there was a fire or some other emergency. It's easy to just hot swap a drive.

Cons: I've had it for 3 weeks and it suddenly started making a loud and obnoxious noise. It didn't take long to discover that one of the two fans is the culprit. I'm not sure if I'm going to replace them or just RMA the whole thing, but it's not usable with the noise it's making. The original install was painless, though there were a lot of cables to cram into my case. With a necessary fan replacement, though, the installation and upkeep of this rack has gotten considerably more complicated and time consuming, requiring an additional purchase.

Other Thoughts: You may want to shop around for another brand, or buy better fans when you buy this one. It sounds like I'm not the only one to have this issue.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great except for the fans...

Pros: Hooked it up and guess what? It actually works as advertised. Go figure.

Cons: One of the fans is making a hideous noise after 1 hour of use. Do yourself a favor and replace both fans immediately.

Other Thoughts: I can't vouch for any drives losing contact and dropping out because that hasn't happened to me.....knock on plastic.

5 out of 5 eggscool concept that actually works!

Pros: 1. easy way to mount HDs for cloning or erasing/wiping.
2. within Vista, when you plug in an HD, it's detected within about 5-10 seconds.
3. worked fine in the new gigabyte mobo we ordered from the "Egg"

Cons: Make sure you have enough "open" SATA mobo ports (QTY=3)
so you can hook up all 3 bays.

Other Thoughts: 1. couldn't get it to work in my dell quad-core.
(that is why I buy newegg parts and build my own workstations vs buying a dell)
2. HDs should be oriented horizontally. I had my mid tower chassis on it's side, right after installing this unit.
When I tried to insert the HD, I had to use my fingers to hold the drive against the bottom of the bay, to get it to mount.
I don't recommend doing this type of a 90 degree insertion of HDs, as something will crack/break sooner orlater.

4 out of 5 eggsNice piece of kit, with one disappointment

Pros: Very well made, with solid aluminum sides. Doors seem flimsy, but are actually quite substantial. Allows me to clone either the system or data drive in the third spot without messing with an external eSATA dock. Will be great for migrating over to Windows 7, while keeping Vista handy.

Cons: The power cabling setup is the worst engineering solution ever devised. Unless one performs invasive surgery, one has to connect each bay with included molex-SATA adapters, and then connect the attached pigtails to the LED/fan ports. Instead of hooking power up 1-2-3 with a SATA cable, a small rat's nest of wiring sticks into the case. [Note that with the old version of this model one could run SATA power X3 to the drives, use a molex to power the fans, and gaf the LED connections if those weren't important. With this version, no pigtails=no fan.]

The two fans don't seem to move that much air over the drives.

Other Thoughts: I installed this in the very bottom of my Antec 900. This allowed me to; (a) stuff the molex cable and connectors under the rack, somewhat reducing the rat's nest, and (b) move the two empty HDD bays, up so their fans blow directly over the mobo. From top-bottom the front panel=DVD-HDD bay-HDD bay-Kingwin rack.

I wish Kingwin (and others) would include a schematic and pinouts for those who would like to splice up some custom cabling.

FYI, this case is identical to one sold by another well-respected manufacturer, but for some reason usually sells for less.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Like a Charm

Pros: This unit allowed me to use three drives in the space of two 5.2" drives. Came with all cables and screws. Build quality is also very good. I am going to buy two more.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This allowed me to put three drives in my home made server where as with other products I could only use two.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: This is a great device. Works amazing - recognizes all of my drives and I am able to easily change drives.

Cons: Didn't come with a pound of twenties

Other Thoughts: I had some problems with hardware configuration. If you want to install this into a CoolerMaster HAF case, you will need to bend out the tabs in the middle (the ones that hold optical drives). Also this DOES NOT WORK WITH A WD VELOCIRAPTOR :( The velociraptor is actually a smaller drive mounted on a heatsink so the SATA and Power connectors do not match up.
