Icy Dock Best way to have a rack system for cheap.
- Pros: This device allows you to stack 5 SATA drives into a 3 5.25" bays. I was concerned about cooling but the drives have remained at a reasonable temperature without any issues.
- Cons: Will not run 1.5gps and 3gps drives at the same time. You must select 1 clock speed or you will not see the higher speed devices.
perfect enclosure
- Pros: Using this as a compact server for my small business. I have 5 x 1TB WD drives running. They run all day and night, though there is only lite use during the night. I have them set up as JBOD. No heating issues. Works perfect. And installation was super easy. I only have 3 bays on this case so this was the perfect solution. I was going to settle on 3 single bays, also from Icy Dock, but I decided
on this.
- Cons: As mentioned, it is not a solderless fan. But, it hasn’t failed, so no big deal.
- Other Thoughts: The tech support team at Icy Dock was very thorough when I called with pre sales questions. I had several concerns, including possible heating problems, and they put my mind to ease. Now I have a great product is performing well beyond expectations.
- Pros: I liked the attractiveness of these in my Antec900 with the blue/silver. The price was a little less then supermicro as well.
- Cons: I ordered three of these to fill an Antec 900 for a media storage server. The first backplane I installed popped and fried 3x 500gb drives 1x, 250gb drive, 1x 750gb drive.
According to the mfg, they are not responsible at all for replacement. Newegg offered to let me RMA it at no charge.
- Other Thoughts: For the few dollars I saved by ordering these to try them over the Supermicro quality item, I am going to end up paying for anyway due to having to re-order and pay for a second round of shipping costs and new hard drives.
I wished newegg would have cut me some slack on the shipping due to the docks frying out several hard drives with them knowing I was going to be ordering the drives from Newegg as well.
Caused me to start watching local computer store's ads more if this is their return policy.
