5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: 5 bays in a small space... whats not to love?

Cons: You may have to modify case a bit. I had to shave a few things like others - can't blame them for this though, they didn't make the case.

I too cut a piece of plastic to lay over the exposed circuitry in the back.

I have no true complaints except they ****** me on the rebate.....

Other Thoughts: I have this running in an ML150 G6 ESXi host with a fairly heavy load and have not noticed any issues with heat, not sure what others are doing which would cause it to need a bigger fan. I guess I may some day find out.

All in all its a pretty decent - I would buy another. 3.5" storage is way cheaper than 2.5".

4 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Well put together and does everything they say. The fit was a little tight but its nice to have 5 drives watered down to a 3 bay fit. :)

Cons: Its a little costly that's why im giving it 4 stars.

Other Thoughts: Bought this for a RAID array thats nice and clean now, before i had wires every where and a slight heat problem. Also i need space back in my tower which it provided.

4 out of 5 eggsWell worth the customising of a case

Pros: Drive bays function well and even with constant use (swap drives 2-3 times in an average day)
they still work several years later

Cons: The ThermalTake case i use required extensive remodeling in order to fit them into the drive bays properly. Mainly trimming internal structures.

no chaining. Each drive has a separate SATA interface instead of a single output +1 per bay

Other Thoughts: Ordered and installed 2 of these and am still happy years later

2 out of 5 eggsThumbs Down

Pros: Fits 5 drives in a 3 bay space.

Cons: Case may need to be modified for this to fit. Fan is somewhat loud, but mostly ineffective. Drives run too hot. Fan failed and started smoking after about a month (fortunately nothing but the fan was damaged).

Other Thoughts: The cooling fan doesn't work very well because most of the area behind the drives is blocked by the circuit board.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

Pros: An excellent way to add hot-swappable storage to a system.

I installed two of these in my home/business server.

Relatively easy to replace fans.

Good ventilation. LED's are not obnoxious.

Cons: I was pretty scared by other reviews on this product, but I took precautions. I installed my own shielding in the back of the unit to prevent any electrical components from touching any installed drives.

I also removed the stock fans and installed some SilenX ones with high CFM ratings. This required some crimping and soldering to achieve, but I suck at soldering and was able to do it so I am pretty sure anyone can if they need to.

The screw holes looked like they were drilled wrong, as I could only get one set to line up with the mounts in my case. This was on both units.

Other Thoughts: If you are buying this product, take precautions against the issues others have reported. Shield the inside back panel, and get yourself some reliable fans.

Otherwise, a great product.

4 out of 5 eggsOne of the greatest products by ICYDOCK

Pros: Tool free installation
Cooling for the drive keeps drive long lasting
Fan has different speed modes
LED has diffferent Lighting modes
USB 3 Compatible

Cons: Price is a bit high for a single Enclosure
2.5” Drives Adapters Not Included

Other Thoughts: by far one my favorite ICY dock products, apart from the Multi Drive enclosures. The LED turns red when the drive is overheating too :)

I didn't like the way it looked on the computer though because it had an obvious weird shape, but It looked cooler in real :)

2 out of 5 eggsLEDS are no good

Pros: Slide into an expansion bay

Cons: -Flimsy bays
-LEDs stay red when connected to RAID controller (Perc 5i and 6i)

-Small fan, not any room for air flow, should have considered venting the backplane.
-Expensive for the quality.

4 out of 5 eggsBurned up hard drives

Pros: I have four of these and really like them a lot, but had the same problem with one as Andy 10/30/12 (Burned up my drives)

Cons: Burned up two of my hard drives several years ago. The damaged drives were my loss, as with Andy. I finally figured out that the pins that the power connectors plug onto were protruding through the circuit board too far and coming in contact with the metal frames of some of the hard drives. Only certain drive slots were involved. I cut off the protruding tips and filed them as short as I could, and the same unit has been in service now for several years. I have bought more units since then, and thought the problem had been had corrected. If your unit was purchased recently, maybe ICY DOCK never did figure out what the problem was??

Other Thoughts: My earlier review concerning this problem seems to have disappeared, as well as those of others who also had this same problem. Some editing has apparently been done here. I'm not too happy about that.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fits 5 3.5" drives quite well. Quiet, looks nice, provides adequate cooling.

Cons: Large, needed to cut the tabs/shelf within the case to fit.

Other Thoughts: One of the LEDs stays orange, all other are green--the drive is fine.

1 out of 5 eggsBurned up my drives

Pros: Great use of space

Cons: Followed the directions installing the unit, put 3 drives in their trays and slid them in. Hit the power button on the tower, heard a snap, the case fans twitched and nothing at all. Troubleshooting revealed the 3 drives I installed were all toasted. They no longer spin up, in fact one of them shorts out and shuts down the whole system.

ICY DOCK SAYS THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE!

They sold me something in good faith it would work, but it didn't and caused $300+ in damages. Way to stand behind your product, Icy Dock. Stay away from this company. Hope they go under and have to find work at an iPhone factory.

Other Thoughts: Should be an obvious red flag when the manual says: we are not responsible for equipment within the unit.
