Pros: Looks nice.

Cons: Would not fit into my Silverstone SST-PS07B case.
The front of this will not go in flush with the case front therefore the screw holes don't line up. Others mentioned grinding off the edges so it will slide back where it is supposed to go or drilling new mounting holes but I decided to send it back.

Other Thoughts: I have a Icy Dock external HD dock that has worked fine for several years.

Pros: It's ergonomics are appealing. It's ease of use is awesome, just open the front panel and slide the HDD in the tray-less unit until the front panel closes behind it and your HDD is mounted. It's that simple.

Cons: For some reason when copying over large media files (1.5MB - 4.5MB) mp4 files at first it starts to copy over at around 75MB/s, when it gets to around 1/3 of the way it starts tapering down until it gets around 1.5MB/s and continues to go for around 30 seconds and then knocks the mounted drive offline. I then have to physically remove the drive and then reinsert it for it to be recognized again.

The NewEgg site as well as the racks manufacturer site state that it accepts SATA III but the box that the rack comes in says that it only accepts SATA I & II. I don't know if this actually is the reason for it not to work, for all I know it could be the controller on the rack is bad. A word of caution though, if you do have a SATA III drive I would look into getting a different rack than this one.

Ultimately I had to return this for a refund. I decided that this was the best course of action considering that the box only states SATA I & II and not III, so an exchange for another rack seemed illogical.

Also a SATA III drive should copy files at around 103MB/s - 105MB/s and when starting a copy of a large file it only reached 74MB/s which also leads me to believe that this rack can only handle SATA I & II, not a SATA III HDD.

Other Thoughts: The rack makes Windows read your drive as a USB SCSI device not an actual mounted drive. This is good because you can then go down to the system tray and choose to "Safely Remove Drive" just like you would for a USB thumb drive and you won't get write errors on the drive. This makes for the easiest Hot Swap there is for a full fledged SATA HDD.

Pros: It works...so far.

Cons: None that really matter too much. Was a snug fit (have Rosewell case & not thrilled with fit/finish), fan may be an issue, can fix that easily enough.

Other Thoughts: Real test will be over time, as I write this, Ive swapped 30 hard drives, no issues mechanically. Great way to make use of 5.25 bays. Just hope I can get a couple of years out of this unit.

Pros: Installs easy, seems well built. Fan is quiet

Cons: Eject button does not work. Did not attempt to eject drive until well after I discarded packaging (after all, it transferred data just fine). NewEgg will not RMA this because of the lack of box. Very Disappointed.

Other Thoughts: Have always used NewEgg, and probably always will, but I am disappointed in this particular purchase. If I am going to RMA b/c it doesn't work, why do they need the box? Not like they are going to sell it.

Pros: Works, looks nice. Very convenient way to swap drives.

Cons: Construction allows for a couple pieces to rattle and vibrate. Though it is less of a problem when you have a 3.5 inch drive in it.

Other Thoughts: I've had bad luck with rebates. Hopefully this one will be honored.

Pros: Clever design.

Cons: It doesn't work most of the time. Initially, it was possible to get a hard drive to connect to the power and SATA connector after three or four tries, but that only lasted 24 hours. Now it doesn't seem to be able to connect any of my Western Digital (not Raptors) or Seagate SATA drivers.

Other Thoughts: The springs intended to push the hard drive into the connectors seem to be too weak to do the job.

Pros: Installed it and inserted a SATA drive. The results were good. I swapped the dirve with another SATA and it worked good.

Cons: Went to take out the scecond drived I installed, but couldn't get it to eject. Forced the latch, and of course it broke. Used a hook to remove the drive.

Other Thoughts: I gave it 2 eggs cause it did work at first. The ejection mechanism should be re-engineered.

Pros: Sata 3, disk activity lights function, tray less.

Cons: Of the three docks purchased two of them had problems with disks jamming inside. The latch mechanism is plastic and will break if forced.

Other Thoughts: Don't force the lever or you will break it. I had to shut down the server and physically remove the dock. Once out of the server remove the four screws which hold on the front face plate and you can remove the drive. From the front there are two metal guides which are held in place with screws. On one I had to file down a rough area in the stamped metal with was catching on the side of the hard disk. The other I had to flare the back of the guide out slightly so it would not catch on the drive.

I still gave it four eggs because these problem were not major. Annoying yes, but easily fixed. Test the units with a drive you intend to use before installing them. If they jam then modify the guides.

Pros: Even broken works.

Cons: Broke way too soon

Other Thoughts: After opening the door ~12 times the door broke and 'locked' the hard drive in. After physically removing the drive and some serious persuasion, e.g. hacksaw, I was able to remove the door and get the hard drive out. I now use the device w/o a door, works well enough for my needs at the moment but not something I recommend to others.

Pros: 1) SATAIII (or SATA6, depending on naming convention)
2) MUCH better engineering for pulling the drive out when the door is pulled open. Previous Icy Docks had a small arm that was subject to getting bent or broken--our company has RMA'd a few of the older models for that reason.

Cons: The packaging doesn't indicate SATAIII or SATA6 compatibility--only "Screw-Less 3.5" SAS / SATA I & II Mobile Rack." I haven't run any tests as of yet to see if I can get anywhere near SATAIII speeds (and even then, almost anything that's not a SSD will probably be bottlenecked anyway).

Other Thoughts: Make sure your SATA controller has the correct drivers for hot-plugging and/or AHCI. No hot-plug = likely BSOD. Silicon Image chipsets are usually best for this, but I don't think they have SATAIII/SATA6 controllers out yet. Marvell is a good second--they have SATAIII/SATA6 controllers that are hot-pluggable.
