1 out of 5 eggsCheap

Pros: Price

Cons: Plastic broke first time I opened the door. Doesn't recognize the drive that's in it. Tried two different 2t Samsung SATA, neither work.

Other Thoughts: Buy something else, it's a great idea if it only worked.

5 out of 5 eggsSurprisingly good quality build

Pros: This enclosure does things a bit differently than typical drive caddies. You take your drive and slide it into this enclosure, closing the front fascia/cover to ensure connectivity between the drive and backplane.

A real plus due to this design is that you do not need to use mounting screws or brackets so the drives will fit in any given rails. Just stick a normal 3.5" drive in and go.

The rack has both a SAS and SATA port on the back, offering some options, depending on what hardware you possibly have.

Build quality felt a lot higher than I expected; I was pleasantly surprised at that.

Cons: Small fan, so it's rather loud. But it'll keep the drive cool. If you're the hot-swapping kind of person, chances are pretty good that this is going in your personal desktop? Consider sticking this in your 'closet datacenter' so ambient noise isn't a problem.

Can't really ask for much more. It looks decent. You really get what you pay for and this seems to function well as a cheap swap rack.

Other Thoughts: Quite honestly a single-bay drive swapper rack isn't really worth your real estate in most cases. Get a rack that fits in two bays and stores three 3.5" drives instead! You'll possibly then get a bigger fan that'll pull the same amount of air and maybe not sound as audible.

Ensure your controller and/or drive support hot-swapping or hot-removals, otherwise you may want to shut off or hibernate your system between drive pulls (and that's still after taking necessary measures to ensure data isn't required on the drive) to be on the safe side.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid

Pros: Looks solid from the outside.

Cons: The hard drive wouldn't slide in at all because a metal bracket inside was catching on a screw on the drive, so I had to bend that out of the way with my finger.

The spring clips on the door are a joke and catch on the drive randomly. Their purpose seems to be to make the simple task of closing the door, as difficult as possible.

The spring clips inside the drive are so stiff that you'll think your going to break the drive trying to slide it in. I believe these are also the cause of the screeching metal noises that can be heard when installing a hard drive.

To top it off, it won't work at all with my WD20EADS. I don't have another drive to test. Since this is the reason I bought it, it's useless to me regardless.

Other Thoughts: This unit looks good when you take it out of the box, but looks can be deceiving. In the end, I wasted $32 and 2 hours of my time. I'll also be crossing Icy Dock off my personal buy list from now on. I just wish I could give it zero eggs.

If anyone wants this thing, it'll be in the dumpster out front of my apartment until Friday when the city comes by.

Oh yeah, super quick shipping by Newegg. Thanks!

1 out of 5 eggsNot a quality product by any means

Pros: Needs no hard drive caddy

Cons: Drive is hard to swap
Quality is sub-par
Fan dies in three weeks

Other Thoughts: Really disapointed with this kit. Purchased for a client and I had to go buy another brand locally to replace three weeks later. I would not buy another one.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Quality I Would NOT Buy Again!

Pros: None!

Cons: >Poor quality control.
>Very fragile easily broken.
>The HD does not always make contact.
>I have to push in the HD all the way for it to make contact.
>I bought 2 and I would not buy again!

Other Thoughts: A good idea very poorly executed. I expected much More from Icy Dock. I will get rid of these and buy a Thermaltake HD Docking Station.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Looks good

Cons: The one I got had no power to the hard drive. Was extremely difficult to insert or remove hard drive. Left deep scratches on one of the two drive I tried. RMA's back to Newegg, was going to exchange for the external 2 bay MB662US-2S but the price had raised $10 from the time I placed into cart to start of ceckout, seen this befroe at newegg.

2 out of 5 eggsDOA but fixable.

Pros: It worked eventualy.

Cons: When I got this product I installed it and tried testing it. My HDD when in about half way and jammed up. After taking it back out I notived that the guide inside was somewhat bent causing it to catch the HDD. After taking it apart and bending it the right way. It worked. Sometimes when I swap HDD's though it causes windows to freeze, however I am unsure if thats the computer or the dock.

Other Thoughts: This was a replacement unit for my first dock that came DOA as well. I would say Icydock should step up its quality control.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cool and quiet.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I'm running 4 drives and only one of them is in one of these enclosures. 3 are mounted lower in the case and run around 40C while the enclosed one is near the top and runs around 30C.

3 out of 5 eggsDidn't work for me, but otherwise good product

Pros: Quiet, has internal fan, supports SAS or SATA drives, & reasonably priced.

Cons: Supports side mounting only. No holes for bottom mounting as is standard on most 5-1/4" devices such as optical drives. (They didn't drill the holes.)

Other Thoughts: Didn't work for me because it doesn't fit any "standard" 5.25 inch device bay. It only works with those that support mounting from the side. If you want to mount from the bottom, as you can with most optical drives, there are no mounting holes present.

Otherwise it looks like a good product. Too bad they left out the mounting holes.
