1 out of 5 eggsWorks poorly

Pros: It's the perfect size, easy to install in my 4u rack mount case.

Cons: Several of my hard drives would not fit in the case. I have a mix of WD, Seagate, Hitatchi and Samsung drives. Only a seagate and hitatchi would go in. WD and Samsung were "loose" and would not detect. Trayless is a fail. Bay 5 won't work at all.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy. It's not saving you any money over a tray model if it doesn't work. I should have payed more attention to other reviews.

2 out of 5 eggsDrop it like it's hot...

Pros: It is tray-less.
3 out of 5 drive bays work consistently.
It will make a great door-stop when I replace it.

Cons: The 5th drive bay doesn't work.
The 4th drive bay drops out for no good reason.

Other Thoughts: If you use this back plane you will end up scanning for your "missing" hard drives at least once a day. Take heed to the other reviewers' warnings and avoid this product.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't waste your money!!

Pros: It’s a promising design. The intention made sense and would have filled my need for removable storage in a case I already had. I had high hopes for this product and all it did was waste my time, money and cause aggravation.

Cons: Don't waste your money!! The product does not work and certainly not as promised. This product failed to see all inserted drives. it is unstable, unpredictable and useless. Do not trust your data to this garbage product! The bad reviews are true, do not play with poison snakes, you will get bit!!

IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO LOSE YOUR MONEY TO THIS PRODUCT, DO NOT BUY IT!!

Other Thoughts: I purchased 2 of these in November 2011 and tried them about 2 weeks later. The product behaved strangely and wasn't detecting my known good drives on known good SATA channels as I expected. I tried new cables and still nothing. It was hard to predict if this product would work at all. Since I was very busy with other projects, I made the mistake of waiting to call Newegg for support and was not able to get an exchange or refund. I then had to RMA both units to SNT. This cost me an additional $20.00. After waiting a about 3 weeks I received the replacements. I took the time to install then and test to find out the 2 replacements are junk too. Now I have to send them back again! I called Newegg today and all they can do to help is issue me a small credit supplement the cost of shipping.
With 4 bad units form SNT, it is clear that this product was not tested after manufacturing and I will not be buying SNT products ever again. I am now afraid I may have to eat the cost after all this!

1 out of 5 eggsEnvironmental Waste { ! }

Pros: Flawed execution on a fabulous concept. On paper, the product seduces with its 5-in-3 geometry and trayless hot swap operation.

Cons: All (3) racks tested exhibit faults when all slots are filled. When oriented on its side, various vendors drives will not seat properly when inserted. (WD drives being most susceptible.) Fans are LOUD without any simple means for speed control. This product is "landfill" from day-1. "Purchased an elevator, but received only the shaft..."

Other Thoughts: I had purchased two 5-in-3 racks, plus a 3-in-2 rack over a year ago, but never installed them. Shame on me for not testing prior to purchasing a 3rd 5-in-3 rack last month! Never again will I purchase an SNT product! Should have just invested in a proper storage chassis. Ended up with an RPC-4224 anyway!

1 out of 5 eggsBad Quality Control

Pros: Trayless. Easy to install. Good build. Good aesthetics. Each bay has an LED indicating when a drive is present.

Cons: Ordered 2 and neither worked. This is probably a quality control issue. In one of the modules, 2 bays worked consistently and 1 worked intermittently. In the other module none of the bays worked. The 2 fans are the loudest thing in my case.

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't believe the negative reviews

Pros: Nice form factor. Good aesthetics. Light on each bay shows when drive is present.

Cons: Didn't work. Ordered 2 of them. In one of them, only 3 of the bays worked. In the other, none of the bays worked.

Other Thoughts: Some people had good luck with them. I rolled the dice and lost. The chances of getting 2 with both being bad is slim, unless they have a quality control issue.

Cons: This is the biggest peice of hot trash i have ever seen. GARBAGE!

Does not detect drives... Feels flimsy on "handles"

Just a big waste. GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DO NOT BUY THIS GARBAGE! YOU WILL REGRET IT!

GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Other Thoughts: I dont usually write reviews, in fact this may be the first one i have ever wrote. And i buy a lot!

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work

Pros: Simple to install.

Cons: Noisy fans, doesn't link all drives (1 & 4 work, or 2 by itself). Tested against both SATA and SAS ports, all of which happily handle the drives connected directly.

Other Thoughts: RMAing; hope it's a problem with the unit but other reviews are giving me less hope

1 out of 5 eggsworst purchase ever

Pros: does not trigger the heat death of the universe

Cons: completely unusable

Other Thoughts: I ordered 3 of these to install in a single machine to replace the 4 in 3 cages I was using. When they arrived I installed them and immediately my stat controller started having problems detecting the disks. Assuming I had damaged my controller, motherboard, or the cables, I started swapping out parts. Ultimately I attempted to make these work with 2 unique motherboards, 7 unique sata controllers, 6 unique controller firmware versions, and 5 unique controller chipsets. Occasionally a controller would see 1 or two of the drives in the cage, but I was never able to get any controller to see all of the disks any of the 3 cages I had purchased. I am in the process of RMAing this right now. In total I have lost about 48 hours of time ( $348 at the federal minimum wage) trying to make these work and ~ $30 in shipping fees. Avoid these like the plauge!!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsDoes the Job for my CM Stacker

Pros: Allows 5 drives in 3 bays
Trayless hotswap
Cute little star LEDs indicating a drive is inserted
Works very well in my CM Stacker
Uses Molex connections instead of SATA Power connections

Cons: Doesn't fit in most cases without modification (My CM Stacker works fine)
Cute little star LEDs don't indicate drive activity
Uses Molex connections instead of SATA Power connections
Right angle cables won't work as drives are "upside down"
Don't lose the screws, as they are not standard length.
For some reason it is on it's side in product photos. Drives mount vertically.
No screw holes to mount it upside down.
Loud fans.

Other Thoughts: Please read other reviews to see if this is right for you. If you don't have "shelves" that 5.25" drives sit on then it will work.

I wish it used SATA power connections. While none of the drives I own use the 3.3v rail, future drives might. Some may consider the fact that it uses molex connections a plus.

It would be nice to use right angle bracket SATA connections, but they face towards the front, and the one on the far left is too close to the edge.

Please note that this works fine for SATA III drives.

I removed the fans attached to it, and engineered a mount for a 120mm fan behind it. Drive temps are just fine.

For me this was a great buy. I am thinking of buying at least one more.
